Signed off for an experimental ileojejeunal bypass in mid1970s with a surgeon who frankly wanted someone to experiment on. He did a Y-section so that all tissue was kept alive (lucky for me) as he joined the first 14" of small intestine under my stomach to the final 4" just before the tube turned into large intestine. Nothing aggravates the colon like having HCL acid from the stomach dumped into it, without being neutralized by small intestine. Terrible diarrhea dozens of time a day. What I now understand is that all of my digestive tract was compromised. I had 18" of small intestine intact, all the rest being sustained in me as living tissue. Had I not had that, reversal in extremis would not have been an option. After a dramatic loss of 200# (half my starting weight of 400#), malnutrition required reversal. I got one of the several surgeons who had refused to do me in the first place - wise men, all of them, to refuse a healthy fat woman a miserable experimental horror as I had.

Feet still sting and suffer from a residual neuropathy, from malnutrition, that had crept up my body and was slurring my speech before I was restored to my full intestinal status. Now I suppose I still lack some spots in my gut, as scar tissue must exist from two surgeries, two surgeons meddling inside me.

Post-surgical plan...soup? soft stuff? bland, soothing food?

Good luck on healing after surgery - and on surviving until your mouth is once again ready for food.

Good morning all, today is supposed to be sunny and 72 Hopefully this means spring is finally here to stay.

I am back down to square one after my little weekend expedition into "carb-land" it was so not worth it!!!

I ate two eggs and a steak for dinner and some pork rinds for lunch, just had to crunch something.

Hope you all are doing great, good luck with the surgery cutepixy.

Congrats Paris on the loss.

Have a safe trip Tina

KUTGW to all the losers and hang in there to all those who are struggling.

Hey!

Day 3 of strict M/E and I can feel ketosis setting in ~ I've got a slight headache. That's okay, by tomorrow it will be gone! I made a yummy meatloaf for supper yesterday, used 2.5 lbs. 92% lean ground meat, 2 eggs, lipton beefy onion soup mix, water, crushed pork rinds, and a little ketchup. It was very good.......actually had a piece for breakfast! Lunch was two burger patties and dinner is probably going to be grilled pork chops. I did exercise also yesterday, t-tapp tempo arms ~ toughy. I still plan on weighing Friday morning, hopefully I'll be able to resist tomorrow morning! Are you ready to weigh Angie ? I hope you didn't sneak into your hubby's car for the scale!!!

Everyone have a great day :hugs

Good evening. I've had a good on-plan day.

Lunch: Double Bavarian Chocolate Shake
Snack: 1/2 cup Salmon Salad (went to a movie and needed reinforcement against the dreaded popcorn).
Dinner: Am going to grill a Ribeye in a few minutes (just got home from the movie). Will have some sliced cucumbers w/vinegar dressing too. Should be OK.

See ya all tomorrow.

ugh! sorry i haven't been posting. i am sooo frustrated. to the point where i really wanted to cry today (i know it's hormones too)!! i've been doing well with low carb and was also LOSING well with egg cream 2x/day. then yesterday, i was super strict with both the diet and exercise, and this morning i was UP!!!!!!

it's also for some reason my SECOND T.O.M. this month!! what the eff! i really wanted to give up today, but i knew that would just make me even more frustrated. i'm still holdin on! but i'm incredibly discouraged and debating trying WW...

Good morning losers, lurkers and strugglers! Hope the whoosh fairy visited you last night while you slept.

I ate (a lot) on plan yesterday, just couldn't satisfy my hunger, a steak, chicken wings, pork rinds... but I got in a Turbo Jam workout and I am down a pound today to 130.8. So close to the 120's I can taste it

Today is goodie day at work so I brought in meat and cheese to snack on, I refuse to blow it when I am so close!.

Gilly ~ Don't give up, I have been there and so have many others. Stick with your plan it will work. If you aren't keeping a eating journal you might consider that, you might be surprised how much you really ate.
It adds up so fast.

Gracie ~ Congrats on the three days, that is always the hardest part for me. Once I get through then I can usually stick with it. I make my meatloaf that way too, it is so yummy and no one notices that the carbs are missing.

to all my struggling friends
to all the lurkers
KUTGW to all you losers

Good morning! Another on-plan day today! I do feel so much better when I'm not consuming carbs! At least the "bad" carbs, I do eat the low glycemic ones. I made pork chops for dinner last night and they were really yummy. I put some olive oil in the skillet and put some minced garlic, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and parsley flakes on the chops. I let them sautee until they were brown on the outside - yummo! I wish I had leftovers! So far today my menu has been a cup of coffee and I'm going to have hb eggs for breakfast.

Gilly: It seems like you've been hangin' at the same weight for quite some time. Maybe try WW for a month or so and see if the change helps you lose. I know on the weekends I sabotage myself by eating off plan and also by having a few lite beers with DH. Are you totally strict every day or do you sway off plan occasionally?

Cat: Don't give up now, you're so close to the 120's! You show great determination by bring the meat and cheese to work instead of snackies!
KUTGW!

Paris: Happy spring to you too! That double bavarian chocolate shake sounds divine!

Hi everybody...

I'm here with my tail between my legs once again Yesterday was my son's 1st field trip and I wasn't going, but I got a got during the evening asking me to chaperone, so I went...and didn't bring any snacks for me...So after all the exercise and tension my first bite of food was at 3:30pm and I felt so weak I fell off the wagon BIG TIME...I haven't weighted myself...nor do I intend to...So far today has been a little pork rinds with coffee...lunch will be 2 turkey burger patties and not sure if I'll eat dinner...

Tina: Sorry to hear about your loss, (and so late) hope everything goes as well as possible during your trip...

Gilly: I feel for you, as I've been in a similar situation...My results seem to be the same when I'm VERY strict for a month, and also when I'm not...But at 5'7" at your weight you must look pretty good, so don't worry too much...just keep it low carb so you don't gain...The best thing I did was hide that scale...I KNOW I'll probably be up anyways because with the callanetics I'm getting lots of muscle in such a short time...so even if my scale should stay the same....I'm confident I'll look better...Don't get discouraged, also with the good weather, you should be able to go out and walk/jog a little bit and that should take care of the rest...

Gracie: I always LOVE your recipes, I'll probably do the meatloaf tomorrow, so I have left overs during the weekend (I hate cooking on weekends, there's much more interesting things to do!) as for the scale, I haven't touched it, but I'm not so sure I want to do it tomorrow....You all let me know what you think...

Cat: I SOO want to be in your shoes! as long as you're here, I'll always be inspired to exercise! Congrats on the loss!

Paris, Zer, Mommie22boys, Wenig, Lynn, Cutepixy and all those I'm missing, hang in there, a big hug!

Take Care...

Good morning, everyone....

DRAT....I bounced UP 1 whole pound. And I was on plan yesterday!! Go figure. Oh, well...Today is a new day!! Maybe tomorrow's numbers will be better. Hope so. It is rainy and dreary today. It's only 41*.... and with the wind and no sun it seems even colder than that. Going to another movie this afternoon. Got to pick up my winter coat from the cleaners and it's just a couple of blocks from the $2 movie theater. So....since I'm that close it's foolish not to catch a movie especially when the weather is like this and I'd just as soon be indoors anyway.

A friend sent me the following. There's some good info at this site.

Dr. Mike was just at the latest convention on metabolism and will be blogging soon about it. If you are interested......

Health & Nutrition by Michael R. Eades, M.D. » Nutrition & Metabolism meeting

Gilly.....I agree with Angie....at your height, are you sure you need to lose more weight? 125 sounds AWFULLY low for someone who is 5'7" tall. I hope you are not being influenced by the fashion industry. Those poor girls are so unhealthy.

Congrats to the losers...

Hugs to those who are struggling...(like me)...

Gotta run...WCBL

Congrats to all you losers out there and for those struggling KUTGW we can and will do this

Well yesterday was my surgery and wow am I in a lot of pain. My whole left side of my face looks like I went one on one with a 2x4 lots and lots of swelling. I can hardly open my mouth ...... can open it just enough to get a fork in there lol sadly though my throat is also very soar and it hurts to drink water as well as eating. I know I have stitches in there as I can feel them. Yesterday I had jello and ice cream and chicken noodle soup really couldn't think of eating anything else. But on a side not the good in it all is since I really have no desire to eat (and having major problems eating) I am going to try and really kick my carb addiction over the next few days and by next week I should be in super low carb mode ....... since I already feel like crap why not go through withdrawal at the same time lol

Good morning everyone!

I survived the goodie day and only ate the meat and cheese in the morning, a bag of oh so spicy pork rinds and a steak and two eggs with a sprinkle of cheese for dinner. I am down 4 ounces today, so close... maybe tomorrow. I did manage to get in my Turbo Jam...has yours come yet Lynn?

Tina ~ what an ordeal, I am sure you are just physically and mentally wrecked Hope you get a break soon.

Angie ~ I always try to grab either beef jerky, meat sticks or pork rinds from a gas station if I am in a huge hurry. Keep exercising and the weight will come off, it just has too!

Cutepixy ~ Hope you start to feel better soon, sounds painful...

Parisfox ~ you and those bounces...stay strong

Gilly ~ Keep exercising and watch what you eat, don't worry too much about the scale, even though it is really hard, I am a scale-freak. Just get comfortable in your own skin, that will take you farther than any old number on the scale. So much better to look good in clothes than to be a stick with no shape at all.

to everyone I have missed, don't give up it will be worth all your struggles.

KUTGW to those who are doing it and to those who are struggling.

Good morning....I was UP 0.6 of a pound this morining!! I'm getting really tired of these bounces. I was on plan yesterday!! I really don't know what else to do. It seems like my body just wants to stay between 220-225.....and "I" certainly don't want to stay there. I'd even be happy with 180-190, but NOT over 200 on this 5'7" frame.....

I guess all I can do is keep trying...or I'll get even fatter than I am right now. I know it could be worse, but I hate wearing a size 20. I want 16's or I'd even be happy with 18's again.

Today will be a shake for lunch and Broiler chicken & a lettuce salad w/Ranch for dinner. I really don't want to give up the Hot Chocolate in the afternoons because cocoa is so good for us....and I really shouldn't have to. Just wish I could figure out what is going on.

Tina...you poor thing. It never rains but what it pours. Hang in there...it's bound to get better. I hope the car problems aren't too serious.

Gotta run........

Hey y'all! Happy Friday

Today was weigh-in and I am down a little over 2 pounds from last Friday From now on I'm only weighing on Fridays to escape the craziness of the scale! So, I started seriously again on March 25th which makes it 24 days completed and I'm down 12 pounds. Not too shabby! My goal was to be down 24 pounds by May 23rd because we're going away for Memorial Day. So, 12 more pounds to go! Plus I feel much better this time around because I'm exercising nearly every day. I'm just afraid that I'll hit a stall and give everything up that I've accomplished ~ we've all been there I've also been following Atkins 72 this time around which is much easier. I'm keeping my fingers crossed to NOT CHEAT over the weekend.

Everyone keep workin' hard and don't give up!

Good morning everyone!

Well, first I'll get this out of the way..bad news first: I'm up A LOT and am at 146.7 the good news is that my size 6 and 7 jeans are even lose! So even though I weight more, I'll take the looking better any day!
Besides, that big cheat on Wednesday must have had something to do with this...so I really don't care that much...I'm handing back my scale to my husband this afternoon..

Tina: At least I'm glad you're back (I assume) and hope you get some rest, so that you can deal with everything else...

Paris: As always, I feel for you...It might even been the meds, or just a fluctuation...but sometimes you lose even when you don't expect it, so I guess we have to accept the gains when we don't expect them either...even though they SUCK...

Cat: Congrats on the loss...and along with the turbo jam you must be looking GREAT, KUTGW!

Cutepixy: I really hope you're feeling better and get well VERY soon...

Gracie: I forgot to mention that I LOVE the way you eat...you seem to be getting in enough, yet very healthy and low carb choices...I always lose better when I eat a little more, just need to stop being afraid of eating, that's one of the main reasons I hid my scale..

Everyone I'm not mentioning, let's keep up the good work, your comments are always useful and appreciated.....

Take Care!
