i wanted to ask you guys if you have any personal favorites for low carb desserts, now it doesnt have to be ultra low carb like induction, just a low carb version of regular desserts, i want to make one for dinner tonite, (maybe that'll get the woman outta her mood)

I like that challenge, Freddie. Plus if there's a threat of me in a speedo, a few pushups and situps might be advisable.

Welcome back, Adam!

Hey Campers,

Freddie good links. I'll take you up on that challenge to.

Uh oh sounds like Kens in the gog house. Only thing I'm coming up with is cheese cake but that takes to long. Go here maybe you can find something

Day 1 of Atkins 72 complete and things are moving in the right direction. Now I just need to keep it up for 13 more days. I made some oopsie rolls and made a ham and cheese sandwich out of them. Think I may need to make a bigger batch to keep these things around for a while. Ed out for now

Harley Checking in from Tampa Int'l.

I got done with my meeting early, but I missed the earlier flight by 3 minutes. They had already shut the door and wouldn't re-open it for me. Oh well...I got some work done anyhow.

Shiner: My favorite dessert is the lo-carb fudge. I haven't been able to find it on the site anymore, but it has peanut butter, heavy cream, splenda and dry instant pudding. Tastes really good...just a small spoonful will beat a chocolate craving. I don't have the recipe with me, but I can post it in the coming days if anyone would like it.

Eats have been good today...I ate at Bob Evans this morning and the waitress must have either been on the WOE or has been in the past. I ordered 3 scrambled eggs and 2 orders of bacon (I was hungry as hell the morning)....she said "nice high protein breakfast. I just had a protein shake myself. This breakfast will make you have a great day." Alot of times they look at me funny when I order a couple of bacon orders and tell them to hold the pancakes/toast/potatoes. It's kinda nice when you don't have to explain why I eat the way I do. I usually tell them it's because of my Diabetes (which it is), but the loss of weight is just a nice side effect. My blood sugar levels are always perfect when I eat correctly....I have only taken 3 shots of insulin since the beggining of the year.

Harley Out!

So today while I'm donating plasma, I was reading one of my old mens fitness magazines and happened across an article on red meat. Basically it was touting all the health benefits of it and why you should eat it, as well as what cuts. But I found something kind of interesting in it.

Mens Fitness June/July 2007: Beef Up By Kimberly Flynn

Quote:
...since it can help maintain muscle mass and reduce body fat during weight loss.

How dramatic are the results? Researchers from the University of Illinois ar Urbana-Champaign found that people who increased their protein intake form the USDA's recommended level of .36 grams per pound to .73 grams per pound (still well within the USDA's accepted range) lost more body fat and less muscle mass than the control group. These folks also decreased their carbohydrate intake from 1.3 grams per pound of weight to .95 grams. A likely explanation is that protein rich foods contain high levels of leucine, an amino acid that helps preserve muscle tissue. And larger muscles burn more calories.

Larger Stronger Muscles
Protein may help you get the most our of your workout ecen is you're not trying to lose weight. In another UOL study, participants who followed a high protein, high intensity exercise program lost a significant amount of weight; almost 100% of the weight lost was fat. A high carbohydrate, high intensity exercise group lost less weight, and as much as 25% to 30% of the weight lost was muscle.
So go cook up that steak guys. I know I am.

Yes, I think June 30 would be the perfect deadline!!! Also, I wanted to tell you guys that for the past 2 days, I have eaten the identical same menu, and have lost a pound each day!!! The only change from normal "foods" is the addition of Egg Cream in the morning. Not sure if it is coincidence, but am going to stick with the same diet for another day or 2 to see if this trend continues. Here is what I have eaten:

B- Egg Cream: 3 medium eggs, 16 oz cold coffee, 3 tablespoon heavy cream, and a little DaVinchi. Blend in blender....

L-Salad with 1 cup lettuce, crumbled bacon, feta cheese, and grilled chicken breast

D-Delmonico steak fried in 2 tablespoon butter

S- 2 hard boiled eggs, 1 S/F Russle Stover candy.

Like I said, not sure if the loss was just gonna happen regardless, or if it has something to do with the egg cream. What I do notice is that the egg cream keeps me feeling full right up until lunch, and then at lunch I really had to force myself to eat most of the salad!!! Whatever it is, I'll take it!!!

Checking in. I am doing well, staying on plan. I've got a job interview Thursday, so I've got my finger's crossed for that. Hopefully I will get it.

Ken- Don't stress too much over the scale, you have got to be adding some muscle with all the working out you are doing.

Eggcreamers-Is that raw eggs your using? Just curious.

Keep up the good work men.

yeah, they are raw... but you can't really taste them. If you are leary of eating raw, you can safely use egg beaters

All Aboard!

Shiner, You must have the same scales I do. Too many dinner invites last weekend. A few too many glasses of wine, and I get to start all over. Back in ketosis now, but it took a few days.

Seems one glass of wine is too many for me. It leads to the rest of the bottle. Back on the wagon. As one friend said, "On it or off it, it's one hell of a wagon".

The expression on the wagon seem to work well with dieting, given it's alleged origin.

ON THE WAGON - "The original version of this expression 'on the water wagon' or 'water cart,' which isn't heard anymore, best explains the phrase. During the late 19th century, water carts drawn by horses wet down dusty roads in the summer. At the height of the Prohibition crusade in the 1890s men who vowed to stop drinking would say that they were thirsty indeed but would rather climb aboard the water cart to get a drink than break their pledges. From this sentiment came the expression 'I'm on the water cart,' The more alliterative 'wagon' soon replaced cart in the expression and it was eventually shortened to 'on the wagon.' 'Fall off the (water) wagon' made its entry into the language almost immediately after its abstinent sister." From the "Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins" by Robert Hendrickson (Facts on File, New York, 1997).

Hey Campers,

I think I've got the induction flu. I felt like crap last night body aches couldn't stay awake and ended up leaving work early to get some sleep. Feel much better today. I think I'll take a rest from the exercise today to recoup.

Pete glad to here alls well.

Freddie I'll have to try one with the cold coffee. Though I'm not to big a fan of cold coffee I'll try anything once. On the feeling full you may just be in deep ketosis. Which is where I need to be.

Good afternoon, gentlemen.

Another good day for me. I did have a glass of wine with dinner, as my wife had already opened the bottle before I got home. I guess the kids were a little unruly. It's funny how my wife feels the need to open a bottle of wine to unwind and then drinks all of half a glass, maybe 3/4 if it was a really tough day. It's too bad that's not the way I'm wired when it comes to booze.

Pete, good to see you back.

Freddie - I'll have to give that egg cream a try, it sounds pretty good.

Harley Checking in.

Not much to report other than I think I ate something I shouldn't have.....I can't seem to stay away from the Library since yesterday when I ate a salad at TPA. I think I got some food poisoning or something. My stomach has been churning all day.

That egg cream stuff does sound interesting.

Ok I brewed a pot and stored some in the fridge for tomorrow. I'll let you know how I like it.

Made some BBQ sauce tonight. I doctored up the recipe I found in the Atkins 72 book.

1/4 C onion monced
1 Tbs bacon grease or lard
Suate the onion in lard till onion gets soft.
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/2 C water
1/8 C lemon juice
2 Tbs Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Tbs Worsctershire Sauce
3 Tbs Soy Sauce
1/4 LC Ketchup I used Heinze
1 tsp Brown Sugar Splenda
1 Tbs Kalua Davinci Syrup (this stuff is great if you can find it)
Add everything else and simmer for around 20-25 min until sauce thickens to your liking.

I put it on some pork chops I fried up. Not bad everyone loved it. Figure around 4g per tsp.

Harley I'm just the opposite I'm in need of some flow.

Big D I here you on the booze. DW came home with a 1/2 gal of Myers Dark rum last week said look what I got you. I was like great. Break that seal and I'll be one happy camper. Till I wake up the next day.

Hey guys,

It took me a long time of trying but now I usually remember to stop after 2 or 3 drinks. As a man of Irish and German descent living in Wisconsin its almost expected that I plow through my own 12 pack when I go to a party. Sometimes I miss getting gone, but I sure don't miss the hang over and the kicking myself.

I just found out the my school has an all you can eat cafeteria where they cook you omelets with up to five ingredients. And they got an awesome salad bar, and burger's I can take the buns off of. And to top it all of it only costs me $4.05. Its pretty much awesome.

Cheers,

Hola

Glad to see everyone doing well. I have been hovering around the 215 mark which is is down from my high of 228 this year. I am shooting for my VFZ which is 196 (established in 2007).
Really struggling with the weight loss and it seems to be coming off maybe 1 or 1.5 lbs per week this time around rather than 3 lbs a week.
Exercise has been great over the past 2 months. 3 trips to the gym, 3 physical therapy sessions and 3 cardio sessions each week. I am thinking that maybe I am building some muscle which makes my weight loss appear slower. Clothes are fitting well and I can see my arms and shoulders changing.

Keep up the good work

Thursday

checkin in, in a good mood finally

the scale has moved, i saw 156.6 today and i havent seen under 158 in weeks, funny thing is , i got pissed yesterday at the scale (and the wife) so i had a couple of pieces of chocolate orange, wacky stuff going on,

i do however feel more fit, in the waist and other areas, so this Power 90 exercise program and the running is doing something, thats a little motivating

ran the 2nd day of week 5 today of c25k, today it was run 8 mins, cool 5 mins, run 8 mins, wasnt really too bad at all even though i only slept for 3 hrs today, next run of the week is a 20 min run no recovery periods, i think i can do it, hardest part is gauging where to run so i end off back near the house on cooldown

GRP, i think im in the same boat with the muscle building, its easy to get frustrated though, then a week later boom - 2lbs down, i find it harder to figure out what ending weight i should maintain, now my goal is not to be flabby, at whatever weight i geuss

Ed, that sauce sounds good, ive got to get to that LC store to get some davinci syrup, maybe this sunday

to all the rest of ya, keep it up, the warm weather is soon here

Afternoon Guys,

Grp good to here from you. One lb a week is better than nada. Keep plugging it'll come off.

Ok I just finished up the egg cream and I must say it was good. I didn't think I would be to keen on the cold coffee but it didn't taste of coffee. I added a Tbs of flax meal to it to adda little fiber.

The new scale is on the move down 2.6 since that piss poor showing I had on Monday.
Just need to keep it going through this weekend.

Alex it's almost 70 deg here and spring seems to finally arrived. Time to move the runs back outside on a real road with real hills. HOOah

Ken alls I can tell you is a
