Saturday Roll Call-30 by May 24th Challenge
Hello, all...we're having a beautiful April Spring day, sun shining, 60's temp, but very windy...hoping for some greening around here soon.
This was a great week for me...lost 3.6 since last Saturday, so I've reached 40 lbs total lost since 12/27/2007 (start date)...and 20 lbs lost since 2/24/2008 when I started this 30 lb. challenge! I think I'm going to make it. Trying to add outdoor walking to my daily schedule now that it's nicer weather. Hope you're all hanging in there...we can do this! (And think how much better we will all feel for summer activities & vacations if we dump some more weight! ![]() ![]()

Sorry you're stuck, Gina
![]() Is it "tweak" time? (I know some of the posters think you have to wait 6 weeks or more to call it a stall and try something different, but I think this depends on the individual. I personally get too discouraged waiting that long.) |

Thaks for the sympathy Catne. Stuck stinks
I am in the middle of a project right now though that I hope will help. I thought I might try cycling, but I haven't had a lot of success so far. I started a journal to contain my complaining, posted some vague menus and my daily weight. Another poster, Watch-Me-Shrink, came by and said she thought I wasn't eating enough. I wanted to believe her, she has been very successful and seems to know what she is talking about, but I just couldn't believe I wasn't already eating enough. I mean really, I didn't get here by eating like a bird, but I couldn't be sure. I have never counted anything except carbs and I haven't done that in 7 or 8 yeaars. So this morning I started a Fitday account. I logged in my activity level, the exercise I usually do, my real eating for today and a couple of typical "mock-up" days for comparison's sake. It looks like she's right . The typical day when I think I'm being "good" calories are around 1600. On a day when I exercise I need about 2400 to maintain. That's a deficit of 800. I put in a day when I stayed low on carbs but had a lot of fat and calories (went out for a big juicy rib eye) and it came up to about 2100. A deficit of 300. I remember I had a loss the next day. I feel simultaneously happy and like a doofus. I hope this helps, because stuck sure does stink.

Hey Gina!
Are you taking any nutritional supplements?
I just read that Atkins promotes the use of L-carnitine - he suggests a daily dosage of 1500 mg for weight loss. He says L-carnitine can help break up a weight loss logjam (stall) and help get you into lipolysis and ketosis. Theres a woman in my Somersize group that takes L-carnitine every morning with a tall glass of warm water flavored w/ fresh, organic lemon juice. Also, he suggests Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) - says he often prescribes to people over 40, usually in a dose of 100 mg per day. And says it works in collaboration with L-carnitine (and chromium) to mobilize fat. He suggests these supplements during weight loss: Chromium [chromium polynicotinate] (300-1000 mcg) Pantethine (20 mg) Pantothenic Acid (60 mg) Selenium (50 mcg) Vanadium (40 mcg) Biotin (150 mcg) (apparently these first 6 are contained in “Atkins Basic #3 Formula”) Plus: L-carnitine (1500 mg) CoQ10 (100 mg) And: Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s): OMEGA 3/6/9 Hey, it's worth a try! I'm going to get some! ![]() XO, HB ![]()

Hummingbird, Thanks for thinking of me. I did hardcore Atkins eight or so years ago and went through all the supplements reccomended and they didn't seem to help.
I am happy to report things have started moving a bit for me and I did it by.... are you ready...... eating more .I started a FitDay account (it isn't nearly as big a pain as I thought it would be if any of you out there are debating it) and started tracking my calories, etc. I've been keeping my calories about 400-500 under maintanence level (FitDay will help you figure that out- for me that's about 1900-2000) and have been down 1/2 lb a day for the past 4 days or so. My carbs have been 50-75 too. I've had some fruit, plenty of veggies and even dark chocolate. Who'd a thunk it? Sometimes I get to the end of the day, log everything in and think "Egads, I have to eat more!" ![]() It's only been a few days so I'm not counting any chickens yet, but I am hopeful. |

Sorry I missed Saturday's weigh in Roll Call but I didn't lose anymore. I'm at a standstill which I figured would happen sooner or later.
BUT at least there's no gain!!!!! |

Saturday morning
Goodmorning All!
I'm up early so I'll go first. 224.0 Down a pound and a half from yesterday!!But wait... here is the best part. I started the Couch to 5K earlier this week and I can't believe how much I like to run. DH is out of town today and my kids have a lot of stuff going on and I thought I wouldn't have time to get a run in. Then I realized I could do it if I got up early...AND I DID. I am sitting here on a Saturday morning, dressed, running shoes on, water bottle ready, just waiting for it to get light enough outside to be safe. I'm excited to see how everyone else is doing. Have a great day! |

Roll Call Saturday, 4/12
Better late than never! Spent the day helping son move to new apartment, so lots of Up & down stairs
it's counting for my exercise today!Down 3 more lbs. this week, but absolutely stuffed myself on steak tonight, so probably will hold steady for a while now. That's o.k., still on track. Way to go Gina--sometimes the best time to workout is early in the A.M. when there's no crowds, no pressure. And on the loss! How's everyone else doing? Stay on plan, and have a nice Sunday. ![]() |

Yay, Meekness (and I agree with Gina, you lost more than just 1 lb.--that quantity of water has got to weigh a lot!) Whatever it was, it's moving you toward goal. Keep up the good work
...when is that wedding? We're having a bee-yoo-ti-ful day here in Nebraska today--supposed to hit 70 degrees, and it's sunny & windy, actually looks Spring-ish out there (still no leaves on trees yet, but lots of buds...it's coming! And the grass has greened up, bulb plants a-popping up. So glad to see the last of Winter.) Hope everyone else is doing well... |
