Pear - there's an interesting conversation going on right now in the Main Lobby - lots of good links and advice about metabolism, calculating caloric/protein/fat/carbs needs. Thought you might be interested...

Interesting thread, Hippie.
So I read that I need to increase my fat, decrease my protein and eat 1500 calories a day to lose a pound a week. Hmmm, this is more complicated than I thought. I thought Atkins meant that I could eat from the approved list, not from the disallowed list, count carbs and the weight would drop off... not so. Besides fatty meats, what are some good ways to increase your fat intake (besides coconut oil... bleh!)? I wish my body just came with an owners manual that spelled out exactly how I should eat with the foods that I love. |

And I agree, there's a lot more to it - definitely not easy! BUT I know I feel a lot better when I pay attention and do it properly. And look at Tooter! Egads that's a happy, healthy, energetic woman! I'm glad the thread was helpful. I stumbled across it and thought a lot of good info was being tossed around in one spot and thought of you. ![]() |

Hello...everyone!!!
Today was a busy day. I should know about the apartment by Monday. I didn't get any homework done today....can't wait to be freed of my maid duties!!!! I am going to work on homework tonight. This move could happen fast!!!!I called the youngest's school in Minnesota, and they said that due to the grading period being different, and their semester already starting....the sooner he got there...the better. As far as the oldest is concerned....I understand what you're saying...Pear, but I do feel a little guilt where he is concerned. After all, he wouldn't have sold all of his belongings, started college here, or even moved here for that matter....had I not came here...trusting my parent's word. I know that it won't work here for him...I "know" my parents. I don't want him to have no where to go some semester...when they say that he needs to move on. He has 4 years of school, he gets good grades, and I hate the fact that his future livelihood is at stake....due to my parents. (I did let him know that my door, and my help, is always there for him....to ensure that he makes it through college.) As far as him "knowing and wanting" to go to college...Cheryl...he knows that he needs college, and that is what he is attempting to do. Some road blocks have just been put in our way...and I am doing my best to get around them. He had a pretty good job, but knew that he wouldn't go too far with it, and quit his position to come here, and go to school. He is very "productive" when it comes to certain things. He got his job, and bought a brand new car...and paid it off within 1.5 years. Hippie...thanks for posting that link. Maybe, when I have time to read more of it...I may benefit from alot on there. Here is my BMR: You have a BMR of 1638.15. So, do you know what this should tell me? I know that this means that, even if laying in bed...my body "needs" this many calories to exist. So, does this mean that I should consume less than that amount? Hi, Tooter, and Jean!!!! Hope that you both had a good day!!!! Good night everyone!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Lost and Found : 02-05-2008 at 09:42 PM. Reason: typo |

Click, your son is going to Purdue, which I hear is an excellent university. He would not have had that opportunity if you had not moved.
He can ALWAYS move into the dorms, or find someone that needs a roommate. There are doors open to him (although not free, but that is what student aid is for.) |

Click, you should call his current high school counsellor and tell them about your situation and ask their advice also. Perhaps your younger son can take his exams early, or maybe they will just post his current cumulative grade as the final score.

L&F, the BMR, the number of calories you burn even if you go to bed, is the lower limit. If you eat less than that you're getting down to levels where your body starts to think you're starving, and you risk slowing your metabolism. See Regina Wilshire's articles, Weight Loss Stalled by Low Calorie Diets and Calories Count - In More Ways than You Think.
Hippie, I have the Diet Cure. I tried the recommended amino acids towards the end of last year. I felt better pretty quickly, though my hormone patterns are swinging about all the time these days, so I can't be sure if it was the supplements or not. I only took them for a few days, and still felt better after I stopped. It may be that it was just enough to shift things, who knows. It's an interesting book, anyway. |

Well as promised I got on the scale this morning. I was so scared because I was totally off of the LCing pretty much last year.
I weighed in at 154.2#..... Now that Lent is upon us ..... I'm going to do this. Want to get down to 130-135# and will continue it after Lent..... Have a good day everyone .......and I'll be back later after my shower..... ![]() |

![]() I was just asking someone recently about this. They said they found one of those special lights at ShopKo for a very reasonable price. And I've also heard that just a short (like 5 minutes) stint in a tanning bed a couple of times can work wonders. I'm not into tanning, but I've certainly considered it for this. I've been in a funk for a month or so. A lot of it is circumstantial - I seem to have a low threshold for depression. But a lot of it is this FREAKIN' SNOW!!!!! ![]() I hope you feel better soon! ![]()

Come on down here for a visit - in the low 80's and sunny! I have two extra bedrooms and will promise to make a lot of LC meals..... Maybe if you could get out for a walk - even though it's not sunny! Fresh air might do you good! |
