hippie..
I think there are a lot of people who get to their goal and still see
a fat person in their head. You should start changing your attitude right away and start living! You will do this! Lowcarb works!
So why not get to goal and have that confidence right then and there?

Funny you say that, I just started doing this myself yesterday. Since I fluctuate so much, I think it will be very helpful.

hippie....

I think that many people become overweight by not "loving" themselves to begin with. There are many other factors...heredity, medical, etc...! However, there are many who are afraid of weight loss. Their weight is a comfortable, but yet...uncomfortable, wall that is built to keep everyone away. By coming out of one's shell, and "loving themselves" more, they are taking the first steps to healing the problem behind the weight.

I am proud of you for having the courage to move forward...live life. Goal isn't a magical weapon to cure what's wrong on the inside. In fact, many people who don't take care of their "other" problems never reach goal, or never stay at goal for long. Goal is a number, one that I look forward to, but my health is more important...and with my goal weight...I know that I will be more physically healthy.

Do you remember my New Years's resolution? I said that I will no longer bare the burden of trying to change things that I can not change. This is a big thing for me, as I have spent most of my life trying to make everything "perfect" for everyone else...and somewhere...I lost "me". I've tried to please my parents my whole life...coming here...made me realize that some people are just never "happy", and I'm done trying, done hiding my hurt feelings...so as not to ruin other's day. I deserve to "live" too, and my life began...the day after Thanksgiving......and for that I'm Thankful!!!

For those who are distressed by weight fluctuations, here's a graph from when I put my daily weight on the computer during 2005/6. I went down about a pound a month on average, but as you can see, it wasn't exactly smooth. And at any given time the line pretty much spans a couple of pounds. Of course the numbers, the thickness of the line and the rate of change are all very individual, and I was around 20% body fat at the end of that time, so you wouldn't expect things to change quickly.

I just wanted to show that if you worry about every little up and down, and try to find a reason for every change, you'll drive yourself crazy.

My wife did the teaching today. Fridays are usually short days for them though and they were finished before noon.

My oldest is 16 and working on Physics and Calculus.

I used to love all that. Sadly, I don't find much call for calculus in my life these days .

EWwwww....Math!!!! My weakest subject!!! My oldest is very good with Math too. He better be with his Major in college. Engineering requires "ALOT" of math classes.

That's nice that they can wrap it up early on Fridays.

I did, but over the next couple of years (mostly last year) drifted back up and am now at the top end of that slope again . Still, I'm pleased to catch it when it's five pounds, not right back where I started .

That's good that you caught it at 5 pounds. Hormonal changes do wonders...don't they?

They certainly do, but we had a lot going on last winter - daily hour-each-way commute to visit MIL in hospital for months before she died, then exhaustion and depression that seemed to take over for months afterwards, with a few hormonal excursions thrown in just to keep things interesting.

I had 5 quarters of Calculus in college.
I might remember a little..

The kiddo really does most of it on his own...
He wants to be a computer geek like me.

I really support the idea of stress, and other emotional feelings, affecting one's weight. I have never been as large as I am right now...and the last couple of years....well lets just say...I'd never want to relive them. (unless...I already knew what I know now!!!)

Hippie, There is some pretty good advice here and I can see myself with being a peace keeper, etc. I do think we lose ourselves, all to often, especially when raising children on our own.

The motivation that got me started on this woe was my health but I also think seeing the success of weight loss keeps me going.

Woe has a good point, work on the attitude now and you will be all set when you reach goal. I like that!
