Happy Easter everyone! Serving lattes at church, before and after the service. Then driving up to my brothers house for the family gathering. Hubby arrived safely in Holland and is enjoying time with his family. Getting to know his young nieces that he hasn't seen since they were little. He and his brother cried when they saw each other. I'm hoping to see pictures soon.

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays over here, so we're having a nice long weekend .

I've just realised that I made some chocolate brownies last Sunday, and have only eaten one of them - I forgot to eat them .

Her Mom and I both were in SHOCK and started laughing. This is the first time Irelyn has ever done anything like that. Before, she never wanted to be out of her Mom's sight nor Arms. She wanted her GRAMMY!! Not that I was eating it up, or anything! She's growing up.

AHHHHH!!!!! Aren't they cute? Enjoy her while you can!!!! (Sometimes...they grow up, and become notsocute anymore!!!!)

200.8 this morning. I'm so close to onederland that I can taste it.

I brushed my teeth for the first time with peppermint soap (after oil pulling). It was ok until I brushed my tongue, then it really tasted like soap. My mouth feels really clean now.

Happy Easter Everyone!!!!!!

I'm sorry that I haven't been here much the last couple of days. I've been working my butt off. My supervisor...at the clinic...was going to Florida for 10 days. She has a side job...one that is not done through the company that we are employed by. To make a long story short...she asked me to do it. It's every day...cleaning the front end of a bar/restaurant. It meant an extra $300 for me. So, April should be just fine...bill wise. Plus, I've picked-up a couple of other accounts for myself through the company that I'm employed by.

School is still hanging in there. Although it's suppose to be Spring Break, it seems that some of my instructors take advantage of the classes being online, as there are things due by midnight tonight. That is what I will be doing...after I'm done updating all of you lovely friends!!!

Since this way of eating is not just about weight loss with me...I've been doing some experimenting myself. Pear brought up an interesting point. She mentioned that...maybe...I have a wheat intolerance...or allergy. So, I have mantained my weight this week, but have learned alot. I tried "different" types of carbs to see what makes me feel like crap. One day I splurged with sugar (jelly beans, reeses). I didn't swell up, or start sneezing. Another day, I ate different types of chips. Had some swelling...salt??? Another day, I ate things that had flour...like bread, etc. Swelling, watery eyes, sneezing. I think that Pear was right. So, I've learned alot, but I, also, know that I "feel" better not eating any of the things that I experimented with, but know that not "all" carbs effect me the same. I weighed myself on Friday, and still weighed 194 (On the veternarians digital scale). So, no loss to report...but in the same respect I can report a gain of knowledge that can not be replaced.

Every day I "Thank" the Lord for meeting all of you, as I really feel blessed by all that I have learned about my body through knowing all of you, and the friendships that I have gained. Each, and every one of you, can never be replaced!!!

I hope that you all had, and enjoyed, this blessed day...and that the "Easter Bunny" left you something special...even if it was just a pleasant, peaceful momment to reflect on your lives!!!!

Wow, great experiment. Other things to test for are nuts and soy. Dairy and eggs dont seem to bother you at all. I'm glad I was able to lead you to discovering this. Knowlege is power. At some point you may decide to leave low carb (hope not) if you do, you know now to stay away from wheat and wheat products.

Wheat

Individuals who are allergic to wheat proteins should avoid any product that contains the term wheat, bulgur, couscous, bran, gluten, breadcrumbs, or hydrolyzed wheat proteins on the label.

The presence of wheat protein in a food product may be indicated by the following label terms:
  • Flour*
  • MSG
  • Cornstarch (I have found cornstarch to be fine)
  • Vegetable starch/gum
  • Farina
  • Gelatinized starch
  • Semolina
  • Spelt* (may or may not affect you)
  • Triticale*
  • Kamut*
  • Miso**
  • Modified food starch
  • Malt
  • Hydrolyzed vegetable protein
*Spelt and kamut are both relatives of wheat; triticale is a wheat/rye hybrid. These grains are gaining popularity as wheat substitutes. Spelt-, kamut-, and triticale-containing products are marketed primarily through health/natural food stores.

**Fermented soy product with up to 50% wheat,
Types of foods that likely contain wheat include:
  • Ale/beer/wine/bourbon/whiskey
  • Baked goods and mixes (including barley products)
  • Battered or breaded foods
  • Breakfast cereals
  • Candy/chocolate
  • Processed meats
  • Coffee substitutes
  • Gravy
  • Ice cream and cones
  • Malts and flavorings
  • Pasta/egg noodles (rice pasta is ok)
  • Soup and soup mixes
  • Soy sauce (some brands, check the label - LaChoy is wheat free)
  • Pretzels, chips, crackers

AWWWW!!!!

I am blessed to have met everyone on this thread also. I have learned so much through it all. I hope we stick together. Sometimes the thread dwindles down but I hope the core group continues to support each other through thick and thin.

Good morning .

L&F, we miss you when you're not here, but I'm glad you had such a productive week. What a relief to know you'll be able to meet all the bills next month! And learning about which foods cause you problems will be very helpful to you as you progress

Click, that is awesome that you learned all those things about your own body.
I am so thankful that your bills are "taken care of" for April!!!

We had a wonderful Easter. My In-laws really enjoyed themselves (it seemed like everyone else did too). I sent everyone home with To-go bags.

I had a wonderful time, but tired today. I'm not going to do much today. Just "chill" and take it easy. My son (the one with the tooth infection) get's his root canal finished today.

Enjoy your rest, Tooter. It's tiring having all the family round, but overall, it's good to do .

I've just noticed that tomorrow it will be five years since I started LC! I don't know where the time has gone .

Morning gals:

I went to bed and woke up with a headache and feeling abit nauseaus. I'm also up 2lbs. I wonder if there was something in the ham I had yesterday. There was no glaze, but maybe it had sugar anyway. Or, it could have been from getting chilled with the lattes yesterday. The machine hooks up outside and it was cold and rainy yesterday. I stood out there about an hour and a half and got chilled to the bone. I took some tylenol and I'm having my coffee now so hopefully I'll be feeling better soon.

Glad the weekend is over, I dont like busy weekends, never feel like I can rest.

We did have alot of fun yesterday. We laughed alot when we were with the family and that was good.

Hope everyone is rested and well.

Pear, I have found that when ever we are sick or "healing" there seems to be a "water" weight gain.

I know last year at the lake, I got sunburned this one day (stayed out a little too long) and My weight was up, even though I didn't eat anything off plan.

I find the same thing. If I have a cold, or hay fever is bad, or pretty much anything is wrong, then I'll hold on to a couple of pounds of extra water.

My husband suggested it, because someone he worked with had lost weight that way. I'd always thought of it as just a fad diet, but I looked into it, read Atkins, and a few web-sites, and thought it made sense, so we decided to give it a try. My husband really wanted to lose some weight - I was at my heaviest ever, but was working on a combination of denial and acceptance . Losing the weight turned out to be a better solutions . But more than the weight, I stopped having energy crashes every afternoon. And I lost that feeling of being totally stuffed and heavy after meals. It just suits me a lot better all round.

Gosh, I was having all kinds of health problems that Doctor's couldn't figure out. I was thinking it was all in my Head and that I was crazy. One doctor even made me feel like I was crazy.

I'll try and make a long story shorter (yeah, Like "I" can do that) lol

As a Teen I was Anorexic and bulimic. Also as a teen, I was on antibiotics for 2 years straight!!! Got married at 20 and then had 4 babies in six years. Can you imagine the stress on my poor body? I had horrible IBS!! OMG, the pain was unreal. The Only "cure" (or way to be pain free) was to not eat. I kid you not. I would eat very little and it was because I just couldn't deal with the pain. I went to doctors and they ran "tests". All the could say is that I had IBS (which is a catch all phrase for something is wrong with your intestines and/or bowls and we don't have a clue). The only thing they wanted to do was give me "Pain pills". I asked about Diet...And they wanted me on a high fiber, whole grain!! Yeah....Right!!!

At the same time I was having major Yeast issues, due to being on antibiotics for years and also malnutrition (it was all inter-connected). Oh, I was WAY past the stage of having "female" yeast infections. Alot of the yeast infections would be on my skin, in my mouth and also in the form of my IBS. I had done alot of reading on it, at the time. My Tongue was so bad, that it was like I had a carpet growing on it, I kid you not. I had done some reading on Anti-yeast diets. They were SOooooooooooooooo strict and just trying them caused major "die off" that truly, you felt like you were dying. I just couldn't to it. Of coarse, along with the IBS and Yeast came the other symptoms. Depression, no energy. Getting out of bed was an effort and I always felt hung over and in a brain fog etc...

So...I went to the Doctor (another one) about my Tongue. Before he looked at it, I had explained EVERYTHING that I had gone through. He sarcastically looked at me and said "You can't have a systemic Yeast infection, Only diabetics, Cancer patients and AIDs Patients can have it". He looked at me like I was Stupid!!! Well, I was furious. I said "Ok, then what is THIS"?

I stuck out my tongue and his eyes got huge. He Looked at it closely and said "I have no idea". He then said "I'm going to give you some pills, If it's yeast...This will be gone in 7 days". I said "Ok, what about diet"? He said "Nope, the pills will take care of it".

I Went home and told my husband and I said "I'm not taking the pills". Hubby gave me a look and said "You think you know everything, don't ya...He's the doctor and your not, why don't you listen to him"? You see, at this point, hubby was so tired of seeing me sick and tired. He was frustrated too. I Said "Fine, I'll do it, but I'll tell you what will happen...I will get sick as a dog, the yeast will go away until the pills stop".

I did it, and that's exactly what happened. My tongue cleared up, I was so sick I felt like I was on my death bed and as soon as the pills stopped, it came right back on my tongue and I was in worse shape then I was before with all my other symptoms.

I showed my husband and talked to him, I then said "The doctors don't know what they are doing and I'm going to find and do my own treatment".

I again tried, antiyeast diets. I couldn't do them. Then my symptoms morphed into other things. I could eat more and not have as much pain and I also gained some weight.

Still I continued to try and read and learn.

In my reading on the internet, I came acrossed "Low Carb" and "Atkins". Now, I had heard about "Atkins" and how unhealthy it was for you and I believed it. As I was reading about it, I realized..."Hey, this isn't unhealthy and this would be Anti-yeast without being so extreme to bring on Major Die off".

I went out and bought Atkins' book and started the Diet. I continued to learn, read other books and Joined this website (actually the one before this one and then Mangus made this site for us).

Low carb has changed my life and my Health. I am symptom free, as long as I stay on track.

I got into low carb with Kimkins. After I stopped (was on it for a month) I went back to eating normally. I tried South Beach in October, but wasn't happy with it, too many rules to remember, and the book contradicted itself in certain places (like it recommended high fat in one part of the boo
