I had some porridge for breakfast - experimenting with adding a few grains again (also added cream and assorted seeds). And coffee. Then, when we were talking about coffee here, I decided another cup would be a good idea, so experimented again, with adding egg yolk and cream. Within a couple of minutes, my throat was itching (it still is a bit), and then I started sneezing. Eggs don't always do this, but they've always been something I'm a bit iffy about. Only, the thing that I really hate about eggs, is when the white is cooked and solid, like in fried or boiled eggs. So it seems curious that it's raw yolks that provoke symptoms
![]() . I like them, but it's not as if I've ever eaten them regularly, or would describe them as anything bordering on addictive, like wheat.I had steak tartare for dinner a couple of weeks ago in a restaurant, and don't remember any reaction from the egg yolk that time . Eggs are clearly a bit problematic for me, though, so I suppose it makes sense to avoid them most of the time (but I'll still need mayonnaise ). Apparently egg was the first "real" food my mother tried to give me, and I spat it out and wouldn't have anything to do with it (age 3 weeks, just when I was actually due to be born).Anyway, then I had some chicken liver pate, salami and dill pickle at lunch time, followed by another cup of coffee (straight espresso this time) and one of the arrowroot ginger thins that I baked the other day. Dinner will be sausages with red wine sauce and some sort of cabbage. |

The ones I have at home are all free range organic - sometimes from the supermarket, sometimes the farmers market. The colour of the yolk can vary hugely from pale, almost lemon-yellow to deep orange. Even within the same box, so I think it would be pretty difficult to track it down. Today's egg was a supermarket one, but I've had a similar reaction to a farmers market duck egg, so who knows?

I've gotten away from my Flaxseed. Not intentionally, just eating things that were easier. I'm breaking out my Magic Bullet (it's a grinder type thing) and I'll grind some flaxseed and put it in the fridge.
I want to get more Omega 3's in my diet. Last year I was eating flaxseed all the time and eating Salmon 3 times a week and I felt amazing!! Also, after talking with Ailuros, I have got to stay away from wheat/grains. I can always make the Microwave flaxseed bread, for a sandwich, toast or to go with a meal. I also can make the microwave cakes, muffins that are the perfect serving size for one.

I know that "Egglands Best" feed their chickens flaxseed to increase the Omega 3's.I know that free range eggs taste better, because they can walk around in the dirt and eat bugs and worms. I wonder if it has something to do with the "Feed" that they give them? That is weird. Are you feeling any better? |

It's easing off now, though I can still feel a bit of something in my throat.
I decided that avoiding grains entirely wasn't making me feel a lot better, so I will start reintroducing them, but not as an everyday thing. That's why I had porridge, and in a couple of days I might have one of the Nourishing Traditions pancakes recipes for breakfast, that's made with wheat. Those things allow me to use just a bit every few days, rather than bread, where you have to make a whole loaf, then you end up eating it every day just because it's there. |

Morning gals:
Click, I forgot to ask how the Meals on Wheels interview went. How did it go? Ailuros, there must be a protein in raw egg that you have an allergy to. B: coffee with cream L: pork chops with melted cheese D: fried eggs and ice cream bar Last night we went to Quiznos for dinner. I had the cobb salad which is really good. I later looked online for the nutritional info and it has 15 carbs, and the chicken ceasar has 16 (without the flatbread, of course). Not bad for restaurant food. Oh and I threw on a bunch of jalepenos for flavor. I love jalepenos, but they're starting not to love me. Ouch. |

I share the last little bit of the ice cream with the puppies and its fun to watch them eat it as they enjoy it so much. AJ licks the ice cream, and Andy nibbles his half off the stick.

Happy weekend, everybody
.I had a good breakfast this morning: I made the batter for the baby Dutch pancakes from the Nourishing Traditions cookery book, but using half the flour they recommended, and I used one of those trendy ancient varieties that are supposed to be a bit better tolerated by some people. Instead of cooking it as one big pancake in the oven, I dropped Tbsps of batter into a pan on the stove top, so I ended up with 9 little pancakes (about 3" dia, like Scotch pancakes). Three looked like a reasonable portion, so I had three with some salmon, sour cream and salmon eggs. Very pretty, and only 5g carb. I'm off to the farmers market in a few minutes, then home again for my coffee. We're enjoying the quiet while it lasts. Next week my nephew, niece & friend(s) are coming for a few days, then the following week my friend & her husband & 6yo twins (cute but exhausting!). |

Hope you enjoyed your poffertjes, Ailuros. I love those tiny pancakes.
I am out of cream, so no coffee for me today. Will probably have some fried eggs and then off to the outlet mall to look for the bizarre purfume that my SIL's sister wants from america. ![]() Why has everyone been so quiet? |

Jean
. We've missed you!Pear, I did enjoy my pancakes. And I still have some left. They won't be quite as good warmed up, but they'll give me something quick for a breakfast or a snack. The other meals today were ricotta with herbs and toasted pine nuts wrapped in parma ham for lunch, then chicken breasts and spinach for dinner. |
