Hey, Jean...I was thinking about you yesterday. I went to My Wal-mart Super store to stock up on some low carb things they have there. Low carb pita bread, Lavash bread..etc....
Anyways, I thought about you with the Soy Chocolate milk? And Super Walmarts carry Hood (brand name) Calorie Countdown Regular Milk and Chocolate milk. Now, they used to call it "Carb Countdown", When low carb was the fad, a few years back, they have since changed it to "Calorie countdown". It's both low in calories and carbs. Anyways, it's only 3 carbs a serving. It's pretty Good (I bought both the regular and chocolate) and it would take care of your chocolate milk cravings without all the soy. Just wanted to give you the "heads up" on that. Oh, and one more thing. Since you are in CA and around all kinds of Mexican foods. Queso DeFreir!!! The mexican frying cheese that needs no breading. You can just actually fry the cheese in a little oil and it will brown. This is AWESOME!! The only place I can get it (In PA) is at the Wal-mart Super Store, but I'm sure you would be able to get it anywhere!!!! I like to fry up some slices of cheese until they are browned on each side, then dip the slices in a little tomato sauce. It's really good. I'm sure you could come up with some other ways to use it for all of us. ![]()

Jean, I'm also going to make Fried Cube Steak tonight for dinner. I'm thinking of mixing some Vital Wheat Gluten and Almond Flour as the breading. I'll dip the Steak first in some egg mixed with Cream.
I'll let you know how it comes out. |

I checked everywhere for the, 'Carb Countdown' and it is not available here, either. Rats! I find so few low carb products and that surprise me as everyone in CA is so figure and health conscious. Maybe I'll take to my Albertson's Mgr. to see if they will carry it. When I was researching on the internet I found this thread: Have you tried "Carb Conscious" milk? (Hood's no longer on shelf.) I am planning on making fried okra tonight. I think I will use the same breading. What portions do you advise? They have a special 'Mexican Food' section so I will check for the cheese. It sounds great. Thanks for the suggestions. Jean |

Just wanted to share (for ideas sake), Last night we were watching a Movie and I was in one of those "Moods" for a crunchy snack. I got a little custard dish and put some cream cheese in it and put a little taco sauce on top. I microwaved it until the cream cheese was warm and mixed it up. I add a little shredded cheese, sliced black olives and chopped up pepper rings. I then got another Custard dish and filled it with Pork Cracklins (Crunchier then pork rinds).
I put both dishes on a plate and sat down to watch the movie. Dipping the Pork Cracklins into the dip. It really wasn't that much to eat, but the combination of the fat, Crunchy and the Mexican flavor felt like I was cheating and really satisfied me. It was MORE then enough. I really enjoyed it and will be making this again. |

Note to self: Next time you're willing to brave the Wal-mart Superstore, look for Pork Cracklins. Interesting (or maybe not ) fact: I have only been to Wal Mart three times since the beginning of June. Once to grocery shop, once to buy a printer, and recently to do some last minute Christmas shopping. It was the last place I went - tried my hardest to avoid it. But there were a few things I just couldn't find elsewhere.I seriously dislike Wal Mart. It freaks me out any more. I used to love it. Feeling random this morning and thought I'd share ![]()

I hate it too, but it's the only place that carries the Josephs Low carb Pita bread and Lavash bread. 1 Carb Heinz Ketchup, Hood calorie countdown, diabetisweet, and Queso DeFreir cheese. The Joseph's Breads are only 4 net carbs. I use the pita for pita sandwiches for the family or for Pita pizzas. The Lavash bread is great to make wraps. In fact, I made the family Breakfast burritos out of the lavash bread for breakfast today. Joseph's breads are found in the Deli section of Wal-mart, on a shelve right in front of the Deli case with the other "Flat" breads. Oh, and walmart also carries low carb tortillas. They are usually in the Dairy section with other tortillas that need refrigerated. So, I "Brave" wal-mart for those things. Also, the Joseph's Lavash bread is great to cut into Chip size, fry them in oil, drain them on a paper towel and you have low carb chips for Dips!!!! Jean, I believe Netrition also carries the Joseph's breads, you could get them there if you can't find them in your area. Last edited by Tooter : 01-06-2008 at 12:10 PM. |

Hippiegirl, I really got a chuckle from this because you present my sentiments, exactly. We often have huge families, you know, the ones that travel with grammas, grandchildren, uncles and aunts, etc. and they just can't move out of the way because they take up the whole isle. They are all chatting away in their language and are oblivious to others trying to get through. Everyone tries to back up and go down another isle to find the same thing going on. I especially don't go on Friday evening. I imagine the Super Wal-Marts are even worse. ![]() When you finish with your house could you stop by mine, it could use a good cleaning. Maybe WOE is finished with the donuts and coffee and could join us. It sounds like he has plenty of experience. He could even bring Mrs. WOE and the children. ![]() Maybe Tooter would come along and cook for all of us, doesn't that sound good? Jean |
