You'll usually need to take the minerals separately. They're quite bulky, so the only time there's enough of them in a multi is if it's one of the 6-horse-pills-a-day kind. If you're looking for magnesium, look for a "chelated" form, because they're more easily absorbed (and magnesium that's not absorbed can cause diarrhoea). The chelated forms end in "ate." Malate, lactate, citrate etc.

Potassium usually comes in 99mg tablets, because that's the biggest allowed without a prescription. You shouldn't take it without checking with the doctor if you're taking diuretics/bp medication.

I had a horrible leg cramp last night, so bad I had to get up and walk around and stand on it before it would loosen up. Never had one that bad before. What causes it?

It's such seductive stuff. There are carby things I used to crave, but when I taste them now, I can't remember why I was ever bothered. But somehow I haven't yet managed to lose a taste for wheat . I'm not bothered about pasta, but I love (home made) bread and pastry. Oopsies do a fine job of holding the filling, and I don't dislike them at all, but I'd never crave one.

On the other hand, eating an oopsie doesn't cause all that sneezing and congestion .

Boy, I sure can tell it's a gray and rainy day today. I haven't gotten anything done.

Does the "light" (or lack of it) effect any of the rest of you?

I find on days like these, I'm lazy and want to go back to bed.

Yesterday was a sunny day and I had all kinds of energy and got a ton of stuff done.

Thanks for your advice Ailuros, I'll see if I can find Potassium to add to my vitamins.

Let me know if it helps you.

We ate out this evening - the usual French bistro round the corner. I had smoked fish to start with: smoked mackerel, smoked salmon, and a white one I couldn't identify. With salad and sour cream. Then I had 2 quail stuffed with sausage meat, with tarragon sauce. They came with potatoes baked in cream, but I only ate about a Tbsp of them. I had some wine, and pinched the tiny macaroon things that came with my husband's creme brulée. So, unless they had flour in (which I didn't think of until I was half way through the second one ) I managed to have a wonderful dinner that left me totally full, and not eat any wheat, or too many carbs. I came in at about 40g carb for the day, which includes some milk and some yoghurt earlier in the day as well as miscellaneous bits of fruit and veg - and the wine.

Your meals...always...sound so delicious!!!! I LOVE smoked fish...even plain old kippers. I have only had a chunk of cheese so far today. It was either...not eat...or eat something that doesn't follow our woe...like spaghettios, or mac & cheese. BUT...for supper...I will be making hamburger patties, and some salad. I will fry the burgers in bacon grease, and top with bacon and montery jack cheese. The salad will be: "fresh" () spinach, iceburg, romaine, english cucumber, diced roma tomato. The dressing will be mayo with splenda.

I picked up some splenda packets at a dollar store. 10 or 12 (can't remember) pkts. for a dollar. That should get me by for awhile.

I found it weird when I went to America and all the food was sweet - your dinner sounds great, L&F, except for adding splenda to your mayo. I still can't get used to people looking for LC recipes for coleslaw and the like. But every time I'm tempted to think of it as some modern American corruption, I'll read an 18th century recipe (because I do that sort of thing ) that suggests sprinkling your spinach with sugar . And then I have to remember that actually the way Americans sweeten savoury food is the more traditional way, and the English habit of keeping them separate is more modern. But I still think it's utterly bizarre to eat sweet potatoes and toasted marshmallows with your dinner .

I know that you don't like splenda, Ailuros. When I made coleslaw with fish, at my parent's house, I just used shredded cabbage and carrot. Then in a seperate bowl, I mixed mayo, splenda, and a little vinegar. Then, I just mixed it together, put a couple of drops of milk on top, and refrigerated it for a couple of hours. It was good...as a matter of fact...it sounds good right now.

I bet that the differences in the cuisines are quite different between the countries, as you guys have available to you more fresh, whole foods. I really would love to experience it someday.

It's not particularly splenda in things like mayo/coleslaw/vinaigrette - it's the idea of sweetening them at all that seems weird. But don't idealise our diets over here. I think we're pretty close in the junk food stakes, it's just the sweet and savoury things stay a bit more separate. I'm lucky that I live in a town with some good food shops and a good farmers market that's held every week. And I'm a dedicated foodie . But when I've visited my BIL in the various US states where he's worked, we seem to have managed to eat pretty well (I took over his kitchen ).

By the way guys....when I said only 25 pounds...I meant that...I wonder how much more it would've been had "life" been more "normal". 25 pounds is good, but I haven't lost much in the last few weeks...because I was eating sandwiches, etc...

After all...I was down to 199 before I ever moved in mid-February. Now, weeks later...it hasn't really gone down a whole lot...because I wasn't following my woe very well.

Pear...I'm happy to see that the scale is moving in the right direction for you again. You'll probably have a whoosh soon. I'm really happy that you are graphing it...it makes seeing it "overall" easier.

Yes...well...your meals always sound very good to me. Very wholesome, and fresh.

So, how would you make cole slaw then?

I'd chop some cabbage, grate some carrot, add some spring onion (I don't really like raw onion, that's why I'd just use a bit of spring onion) and stir it all up with mayonnaise (made from egg, mustard, vinegar, salt, olive oil or peanut oil). Then I'd add salt/pepper/mustard according to my mood and what I planned to eat it with. I don't do it very often, though, partly because my husband always eyes it very dubiously.

I probably don't tell you about my food on the days when it's not wholesome and fresh .

I'm going to bed now, so you'll have to go somewhere else for your food porn . But while we were eating dinner tonight, my husband suggested that I should try some new recipes from a Middle Eastern cookery book, so there could be some food exotica in the near future....

Yes...I forgot the onion. If I put any in mine...it is very little as well. Your way sounds pretty identical...except for the sweetening. I don't salt and pepper things real often, as I know that not everyone likes salt, and not everyone likes pepper around here. So, the salt and pepper shakers are always at the table, and we season our own servings.

Boy...I am soooo hungry. I can't wait until supper!!! You want to know something weird? I used to always crave the "bad" things. Today, I was craving a good salad, as we haven't really had too many veggies around here yet. I feel guilty if I spend money on food too much. Eating healthy is expensive, I just can't wait until a "real" job turns up.
