Click, yes, it sounds like an absessed tooth to me too. I too, was VERY worried with the infection and was just about FREAKING because Mosts of the dentists are gone on some sort of convention. I was going to try a couple more, then Dr's offices and then the emergency room. I knew I had to get him in somewhere TODAY and get some antibiotics started on him as fast as I could.
I'm not one to take (nor let my kids take) an antibiotic for just anything. I believe they are a needed Med, just very OVER used. In this case, he diffinately needs it. I also told him that he MUST take them as prescribed (when we get them) and that he MUST finish the bottle ...And that he WILL have to change his diet then, and take probiotics when things settle down with his teeth. You see, the start of all my health problems happened when I was 15, went to a dermatologist for Acne, and they put me on antibiotics for 2 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() I was totally "Clueless" and just did what I was told. Then All my Health problems started and doctors were clueless as to what the problems were. *sigh* So, you see, I am not Anti-antibiotics (they can be life savers)....I'm just against their mis-use and over use. They are not something that should be dished out like candy and taken for granted. They aren't a Perfect drug either (no drug is) And there WILL be side effects from taking it (as with any drug), so I want my son "Informed" and to follow through with it. Which includes making sure that his flora gets back in balance so he doesn't develop other diseases. Did that all make sense? lol

Thankfully, he is sleeping right now. Poor guy! He is a Big kid. 6'4" about 250 to 260 lbs. The Pain isn't as bad as it was, since the "Abscess" is "Leaking" now and there isn't as much pressure (that's the truly Painful part). I just am worried about the "infection" spreading and making him sicker. |

I totally agree about antibiotics. They're way over-used, but when you really need them, they do a good job. My husband had to take some a few years ago when he had tonsillitis, and it really helped (I never knew tonsillitis was such a bad illness!) - except then he had mouth ulcers and all sorts of stuff after the antibiotics. But he was so ill before he had them that it was worth it. A friend last year had to go into hospital to have intravenous antibiotics when he picked up a really nasty infection in his leg from just getting scratched in the garden. When you really need them, they're worth the side effects. As you say, the problem comes when they start being dished out for anything and everything.

*nodding at Ailuros* Yep, totally agree. I have even had to take them since then. Thank God, I am aware of the Side Effects and know how to treat them.
My Son knows (after he is healed) he'll have to do strict low carb, and take probiotics. I also warned him that after he gets "Well", he will most likely get sick from other things, because of the imbalance in his flora (yeast over growth). We had a LONG TALK. He'll need to starve the Yeast (bad bacteria) and build up the Good Bacteria again. Thus the low carb and pre-biotics. Most people don't make the "Connection" with the Sickness that shows up after the the first "infection" is healed. They just assume it's something else and not related at all. It can be days or even weeks later that the other symptoms will show up. I think Doctors (some) are starting to realize there is a connection and are starting to advise their patients. |

I agree with what you say about anti-biotics. Another thing about over prescribing them is that our bodies become immune to them, and then...when we NEED them, they don't work. Scientists have to keep coming up with stronger one's due to this problem, and because people feel better in a couple of days and don't finish their prescription. Then, the "bug" isn't all of the way gone, and sometimes mutates into some other strain of "bug" and requires something even stronger!!!! |
