Tooter, I've been doing the Tae Bo workouts, the Billy Blank DVD's for several months now. I also try to change it up and throw in the FIRM once a week for the weight work it provides. I have the set of DVD's for Billy's amped workouts and change them up daily and on Fridays I do the 1 1/2 hour workout.

What all do you do when you do your weights? I only have 5 pounders to work with right now.

Ailuros, I'm keeping track of my weight on graph paper like you suggested. I have just noticed that after my last cheat, it took me a full two weeks to get back on track. TWO WEEKS!!! I should remember that the next time those nasty snickers bars taunt me.

I've been at 209 for the last week, its nice not to see the scale jump back up like it usually does when I post a loss. I'm hoping soon to see 208 and that my losses will continue.

Click, good luck on your job search today. Keep your spirits up, its usually a slow process, so don't get discouraged.

I haven't done any of the DVD's yet. I hear alot of people do the Tae Bo.
I have 8 lb free weights that I use at night. At night when I watch TV, I do leg lifts, Crunches, Side leg lifts and use the 8lb free weights for my arms. I also get out my "rebounder" (It's a mini trampoline) and you can walk, jog, run in place (or other things) while you are watching TV. This way I have no excuse not to do it.

The other Weights are a "machine" that hubby bought years ago, but ended up being a clothes rack in the Basement! Anyways, he has set it up down there for me me with a TV, exercise bike etc. The Machine is like the ones in a Gym. Different things for your arms and legs...etc. You can change the "weight" to whatever you want.

Now you've done it. I can talk about yoga almost as much as I talk about food .

I started going to yoga classes in the village hall where I used to live, about 25 years ago. I went along because after doing lots of walking everywhere as a student, I was suddenly living somewhere that meant I was always using the car and so I thought I'd better do some exercise. I didn't much like the idea of exercise, but yoga seemed as if it might not be too much of a shock to the system. This was the early 80s, so I kitted myself out in leotard and leggings and headed off to the class. I liked it pretty much from the start because it made me feel calm and poised. Over time the teacher moved away and I went to different classes. It's always my way that when I'm interested in something I want to read about it, so I acquired lots of books, but then there was a teacher training course starting about five miles from where I lived. I didn't really want to be a teacher, but there weren't any other ways I knew of to find out more about it. So I signed up for the course, which covered some of the philosophy of yoga as well as the how-to-do it and safety stuff. Not long after I started it I saw a notice in a magazine that one of the well known yoga teachers was going to be leading a one week retreat, so I decided to go along to that. The teacher (Indian) had trained as an engineer before studying yoga with his father, so his structured style appealed to me, and I asked one of the organisers how I could learn more about that kind of yoga. He gave me the name of a local teacher, and that's when I started having individual lessons (1992). After I finished the teacher training course (2 years) I did an introductory course in the specific style of yoga I was now following, then did their four year teacher training course, which finished in 2000. I had a bit of a break from all these courses (but kept on having lessons and practising) then started a two year "further studies" course, which I'm still doing. (All part time, courses - I was working full time through most of this.)

Why do I do it? Well, I just like the way it makes me feel physically and mentally. I still go through times when I struggle to practise regularly, but I always feel better when I do, and I always come back to it. I also like the fact that there are so many facets - physical, emotional, lots of intellectual stuff to study - from Indian history, philosophy and ancient languages to anatomy and physiology. The postures I do are geared more towards building strength and stamina than flexibility. I'm naturally fairly flexible, so if I work only on flexibility, I just get very bendy and weak and risk damaging my joints.

I have always wanted to try it, but in my little hick town...There aren't any classes. I wonder if a DVD would be helpful?

Tooter, I started off just doing workouts on Fit TV then moved on to other things like the FIRM and then the Tae Bo. Tae Bo is really one that will push me and make he sweat, I'm lovin' it at the moment.

Wow, you get a lot in at night, good for you. I need some 8 pound weights. I've seen the mini trampoline in the stores but never owned one.

I used to have a machine just like your talking about, those cover a lot, wish I still had it. I do have a treadmill that never gets used.

I'm sure it would - or a book. I've never really used DVDs or Videos, so I don't know which ones are good. There are lots of them out there, but some might be too athletic, and some too gentle for you. The kind of yoga I do is very emphatic about adjusting the practice to suit the student, which, of course, is hard to do through books and videos. I have just ordered a couple of DVDs from someone who I know is very good, but they're aimed at people with back or neck problems, so not likely to be what you're after. (I have a rather unstable sacroiliac joint, so it's partly personal interest, to see what this particular teacher suggests, and partly just to learn from him.)
