I will need to deal with the youngest's school...for one thing...so that they have ample time to get his records together. We plan on having everything down out of the attic, and up out of the basement, and stacked in the garage by Thursday night. Then, on Friday morning, I will get the truck...and we will load it, get up VERY early on Saturday, and make the long drive with the truck and car (trans) port.

Well, I'm 128 lbs and have been holding "Steady". I even have been eating Lite/high fiber bread a few times a week. I have even had pretzels (whole grain high fiber) and some popcorn (6 grams of fiber per serving).

I guess I had my goal weight TOO LOW!! I feel Good, still have lots of energy and my IBS has not been acting up. I have even had the Quaker Weight control oatmeal (6 grams of fiber and sweetened with splenda) and have had no problems. Before I tried this, but went WAY too high on the fiber and it brought back my IBS. Have I finally found a balance now? It could be.

Again, I don't eat every meal like this...But I do have at least one of these every day now. Sometimes 2 a day. So far so good. No cravings etc.

I don't know why it's working now. Could it be, because I have done strict low carb for years now, and got over my addiction? (remember it was said it takes at least 18 months to get over an addiction), but so far so good. It seems to be working well with no obessions about food and no side effects.

I'll keep you guys posted with any "updates" as they happen.

You all have a FANTASTIC day!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is my 3rd son's birthday!!! He is 20! Now the kids are all "even" numbers. 18, 20, 22, 24!! It reminds me of the Country song, "Don't Blink".

Kenny Chesney, Don't Blink Lyrics

I turned on the evening news
Saw a old man being interviewed
Turning a hundred and two today
Asked him what's the secret to life
He looked up from his old pipe
Laughed and said "All I can say is."

Don't blink
Just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you
Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don't blink
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your "better half"
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you're praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think
So don't blink

I was glued to my tv when it looked like he looked at me and said
"Best start putting first things first."
Cause when your hourglass runs out of sand
You can't flip it over and start again
Take every breathe God gives you for what it's worth

So I've been tryin' ta slow it down
I've been tryin' ta take it in
In this here today, gone tomorrow world we're livin' in

Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster then you think
So Don't blink

Naw, don't blink, don't blink
Life Goes Faster Than You Think
Don't Blink...

Thanks, Tooter. I'm still feeling a bit low, and my weight has gone up about 3 lbs in the last week, so I'm still claiming funny hormones. The thing is that in the old days I knew when to expect the ups and downs (of mood and weight!), but now they don't seem to follow any particular pattern, so I just have to hope there'll be some better days before long.

Morning gals,

Feeling out of sorts today, nauseous and faint, I'm home in bed today. Hope I get over the ick soon.

Ailuros, I hope you start feeling better soon too! You've been fighting hormones for awhile now. Maybe its the long dark winter?

Tooter, happy that you are eating more carbs and its working for you. Do you have more barking spiders in the house now?

Ailuros, forgive me If I have asked this WAY BACK, but have you ever tried Flaxseed? I believe you guys call it Linseed? I'm perimenopausal and was really having a rough time about 2 years back. The "flaxseed" seemed to take care of all the symptoms. There is alot written up about it (if you did a search on it you would find all kinds of stuff).

Flaxseed also is great for making low carb breads, baking.

You don't eat the whole seed (it would just get passed right through your body without absorbing anything from it), you grind it up or buy flaxmeal.

I can't remember if we had this conversation before, that's why I am bringing it up now.

There are a few more "Barking Spiders" but they seem to be "Well Mannered"!

Pear, I am so sorry that you still are not feeling well.

Pear, sorry you're still sick .

I think my hormones are more to do with approaching menopause than the weather. And, we've had a few days of sunshine .

I don't think we have talked about flax. I have some oil in the fridge, but I don't like the taste. I haven't really used the seeds. I know that it's not the best source for the long chain omega 3s, because our bodies don't convert it very efficiently, but Dr McCleary recommends it as part of his menopause brain fog "ketogenic coctail." I'll do a bit of googling and see what I can turn up. Thanks for the pointer.

The Oil won't work. It's the Seeds you need. Give me a few minutes to get you some information, ok?

I am just SMACKING myself for not bringing this up to you sooner. I am so sorry. Sometimes I forget what I share with people. It's the "lignans" in the Flaxseeds (themselves) that helps us with the hormone symptoms. The Oil doesn't have the Lignans in it.

I'll be back, sweetie. *still kicking myself*

Do you think the flax meal focaccia from about.com would work? I know I've seen lots of muffin recipes with flax, too. It wouldn't be too much of a hardship to give it a try .

Flaxseed and Menopause

Here are some links to get you started:

Flaxseed May Ease Hot Flashes

Natural Remedies

Soy has phytoestrogens, but is bad for us. Flaxseed has even more phytoestrogens (especially lignans), and is full of Omega 3's!! I had no more mood swings or night sweats after taking flaxseed.

Do some more searches on it, Ailuros. I can then (if you wanted to start using it) give you recipes for it. There is even a 3 minute bread that you make in the microwave that actually has the texture of BREAD!!

Anyways, do some reading and then tell me what you think.

Again, I am so sorry that I am so late in getting this information to you. I assumed we had already talked about it. WHEN am I going to learn the meaning of ASSUME (Making an ASS out of U and ME).

Yes!!!!! I will be able to get you all kinds of GOOD recipes. Even a hot cereal that tastes almost like oatmeal (made from ground flaxseed and almonds).

Here's a tip, get the Golden flaxseed. The other (brownish looking) has the taste of "Grass" to me and also gives the things you make a "strange" color and taste. No problems with the Golden Flaxseed.

I buy the Golden Seeds in bulk, and then grind them in a coffee grinder as I need them. The Seeds will stay fresh forever....But the Ground Seeds won't. They will need to be put in the "Fridge" and used up. Also, it's cheaper to buy the seeds and grind them yourself and you won't lose any of the nutrition or Oils by grinding them as you need them and putting the "left over" ground seeds in the fridge and using them in a week or so.

HTH

I just popped out and bought a bag of flaxseeds . I'll try some of the breads and muffins for breakfast for a while and see if I notice any improvement. I haven't had hot flashes as such, or night sweats, but mood swings/depression, definitely . And it's as if my body has just lost its ability to regulate temperature at all - I'm always either too hot or too cold.

Do you have a favourite recipe?

Yes, I'll get them for you and then post them. Oh, I tried the "Foccacia" bread. I didn't like it. The Texture is all wrong for a foccacia bread...This is more of a cake/corn bread type texture. I had my mouth all set for a "Bread" taste/texture and the Foccacia just didn't cut it.

BUT...I have even made buns with the flaxseed, bread for sandwiches and a corn bread type bread to go with beans and as a dinner "bread".

Like I said, the hot cereal was good.

I'll get the recipes and post them later for you.

Flaxseed Muffins

6 Tablespoons melted butter
3 large eggs
1/4 Cup Whipping Cream
1/2 Cup sweetener, Splenda bulk
1 Tablespoon flavoring, maple
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
2 Teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 Teaspoon ground nutmeg (I put in a little extra)
3/4 Teaspoon baking powder
3/4 Teaspoon baking soda
1 Cup Flax Seed Meal
1/4 Cup almond flour OR soy flour, Bob's Red Mill
4 Ounces chopped walnuts -- optional
\

Preheat oven to 375F.

Beat first 3 ingredients together, then add Splenda, maple and vanilla. Mix the cinnamon and remaining ingredients and add to above.

Put into 12 paper cupcake liners in a muffin tin, or panspray/oil, and bake for about 15-20 minutes. (mine were done in 15)

(Can double the recipe, and get about 18-20 good size muffins, filling the muffin cups about 3/4 full. Can fill the muffin tins to the top and get about 9 larger muffins. These are really good and have lots of fiber. About 4 carbs per muffin but over 3 carbs fiber. Black walnuts, if you can get them, list 4 grams carbs but 2 grams fiber for the 4 oz....
Other flavorings to try: instead of maple flavor - use banana or pineapple. Unsweetened coconut also tastes great.

These freeze well.

------------------------------------------------------------------

1-Minute Muffin

In a tea cup,

Melt 1 or 2 tsp of butter or coconut oil (microwave for 5-10 seconds*)
Mix in 1/4 cup of flaxseed meal (and/or mix with almond meal, protein powder--2 teaspoons flaxseed meal and 2 teaspoons almond meal etc.. ratio is 2 to 2 if you are using something along with flaxseed. 4 tablespoons equals 1/4 cup)

1/4 tsp of baking powder
1 egg
Sweetener to taste (i.e., 1-2 packets of Splenda or 1 TBS of SF syrup)
Microwave on high for 1 minute*
Turn out and let cool

The muffin may look kind of wet at first, but it dries quickly as it cools.
Eat warm with butter or wrap cooled muffin in plastic to eat later.

*cooking time may vary depending on your microwave, avoid overcooking

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Three min microwave bread

INGREDIENTS:
2 Tsp almond flour (almond meal)
2 Tsp cup linseed meal (flax meal)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
a "pinch" of bulk splenda
1 Tablespoon butter, melted
1 egg

I make this in a 2 cup plastic measuring cup.

METHOD:
Melt butter in cup. Beat in egg. add dry ingredients. Mix throughly with a fork. Cover cup with glad wrap, cut a small slit in wrap. Microwave on high for about 1 minute 30 secs. Microwaves may vary. Check on it. Do not over cook.

I slice mine into about 5 slices and buttered them. This is not like the flaxseed muffins, this is a "bread". You could use it as a sandwich or just to go with a meal. Not bad (my fav is the muffins) but this is WAY better then any mix recipe I have ever tried. The texture is like a fluffy bread. Sort of like a white fluffy bread with a corn meal taste to it, if that helps. It will be a little "Wet" after you cook it. Let it "stand" (out of the container it cooked in) for a few minutes and it will dry up.

This makes great toast to dip in eggs or have with butter and peanut butter.
Grilled cheese Sandwich? It works. Great texture to it.

--------------------------------------------

Flaxseed Hot cereal

2 T Ground Flax
2 T Vanilla Whey Protein powder
A few shakes of Ground Cinnamon
2 teaspoons of bulk splenda
Chopped Walnuts
1/4 to 1/2 cup of water (Enough to cover the mixture)

Nuke in the microwave until for about 45 seconds. Stir until it gets thicker. Your microwave may very so you might need to cook it longer.

You can also use Divinci's Syrup for part of the water.

----------------------------------------------
Oatmeal tasting hot Cereal.

2 T Flaxseed meal
2 T Pecan meal
1/4 to 1/2 cup of water (Enough to cover the mixture) Nuke in the microwave for 45 seconds. Stir until it gets thicker. Your microwave may very so you might need to cook it longer.

Add a pat of putter and Splenda to taste!! For some reason the Pecan meal makes this taste like Oatmeal!! This is one of my FAVS!!!!!!

Thank you - that should keep me entertained for a while . Do you find one portion a day of one of those is enough to help? Do you still eat it most days? And can you remember how long it took before you noticed an improvement? (I'm starting to sound like L&F with all these questions .)

One portion a day should do it. You should notice in a few days...up to a week. It's like I woke up and felt Normal. It was a gradual thing.

With the microwave recipes? You will have to experiment with the time in the microwave and with if you need less or more water.

Start out with just one portion a day....Remember Flax has a lot of fiber in it. It cancels out any carbs it might have. So, your body might need time to adjust and you might live up to my "user name" for a little bit. Everyone is different, so wait and see.

I had the same problem with the being hot or cold. I'm back to normal now.

The Microwave bread is GREAT!! Like I said, there are so many things you can do with it. Toast it and put Cream cheese on it like a bagel.

Let me know how it works out, ok?
