Old Timers and Newbies Challenge
I'm starting this thread so that "Old timers" and Newbies (who want to) can have a thread to support each other and "Catch up" with each other's lives. Winslow and I had talked about it in the 10th fascination thread.
It's a thread to share what we are doing, what we have learned and what's going on in our lives. All are welcome. ![]() I've been doing low carb for year, but really got serious with it (and TRULY made it a lifestyle) about 2 years ago. Huge difference in my health, weight, size and stamina. That doesn't mean that I'm not done learning yet. It's seems I'm learning more and more every day. (Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks). I'm 45, married and the mother of 4 sons and 1 granddaughter. 5' 6" tall and 123 lbs. A Size 4 pants (8 in tops). I read Gary Taubes' book (Good Calories, Bad Calories) and I would highly recommend it to everyone. I recently made sure that I put more Fat in my diet and it has made a world of difference for me. I think too many times we get scared of fat and don't realize the importance it plays in our health. I guess I'll wait for someone else to come in here so we can start some real conversations. Anyways, I hope you Old Timers and Newbies come in so we can get this thing started for "support" and Sharing. Tooter

Thanks, tooter!Low carb has been my way of life for me for the past 10 years. With so much going on this past year, I've gotten sloppy. I came back to LCFs for accountability and support. I had my last day of sloppiness (planned) yesterday. Today I got up excited to get back on track. Today was my 1st day of induction. (strict 1970s induction) I'm going to log everything I eat on fitday. Last edited by winslow : 11-23-2007 at 07:42 PM. Reason: typo |

I hear ya!! Have you tried Virgin Coconut oil? (I am trying to get you updated on things you might have missed).
I use Virgin Coconut oil (Nutiva brand) I actually use it on my skin and I ingest it. There are about a Million threads about it on this site and also a search on yahoo or Google would bring up even more information. In a nutshell, Virgin Coconut Oil has anti-viral and anti-bacteria properties. It also revs your metab up and helps alot of people with weight loss and energy. I will put it in a cup of hot tea (with sweetener) and drink it. (Just don't do it at night because it gives you energy and can keep you awake). It also is fantastic for your skin. You have to start out slow with it and work your way up (ingesting it). I will also make a candy bar out of it. It's usually called "Coconut oil Bark" or "CO bark" (lots of threads about that too on here). Virgin Coconut oil is naturally a solid until about 76*. To make the bark, all you do is melt the coconut oil, add coco powder and sweetener. Stir it up and put it in a foil lined pan and then put it in the fridge or freezer. You wait until it turns Solid from the cold, then break it up into pieces. You store it in the Fridge (remember it will melt otherwise). It's really good. I get my candy and coconut oil too. I even add unsweetened coconut and almonds to it and it's like a low carb Almond Joy.Last edited by Tooter : 11-23-2007 at 08:07 PM. |

Oh, Coconut oil is supposed to help with Wrinkles too. We shall see. lol It won't get rid of what you have, but it will make your skin look good and slow the process down because of the healing properties. Hey, it worked on the Tan for me. Who knows? I don't think it is a miracle food, but I do think it has fantastic qualities to it. I'm sold on it. |

That would be GREAT - Charlie's family is all in Hingham/Hull. Is that near you? We come there at least monthly. Regardless, spring is great!

Mohegan Sun is about a half hour from the house. Im there whenever you are....
Hull/Hingham are 1/2 hr away from Boston via ferry. Nantasket Beach. Regardless, sounds like the casino is the way to go........ Just let me know - my Charlie is a Navigator from the Air Force for 30 years - he can find our way WHEREVER we need to be. Mohegan - even I can find my way there. |

The 4 of us should meet at Mohegan Sun! Let's plan on it and make definite plans after the holidays. I had a wedding and Thanksgiving this week. I need to get through the holidays...but then that would be FUN!!!! My husband and I like to go there for fun. We aren't gamblers, but it's fun. You have a PM.

Aw, looks like some LColdiebutgoodieFriends HERE!
Flower: How's your new pup? Awesome, how you adopted her! BTW, Lucy is doing just fine, altho we recently had a big scare, when she severed an artery & tendons as she was running thru the woods. We didn't see it happen, but think she got her paw caught in an old run-down fence, and pulled her paw out, making a bad cut. Rushed her to the vet for emerg surgery, she spent the night at the vet hosp. She had 2 months of very little activity (and the doggie collar) but is now recovered completely. Has no limp or anything. Vet was awesome ... she even kept the office open late on a Friday night to do the surgery. JMHO on the matter ... the "Big K" not only lurks here, but posts here often. And, yes, I think she had many other "akas" before this one ... The personality-type is fairly predictable. cheers, Wendy |

Hi :wave
I'm a newbie joining in. I started last monday, but with the holidays, I'm restarting today. Winslow, I cant believe you're 51, you look like you're in your thirties. I hope I look half as good as you do when I reach my fifties. My menu for the day: B: none, I slept in L: fried eggs and ham D: Chipotle, I'm having the taco salad with chicken, sour cream & cheese and lots of salsa. S: Gouda cheese We're going by Whole Foods, so I'll check to see if they have coconut oil. That coconut bark sounds delicious. Hubby would love it too, since he's dairy free. |

I'm a relative newcomer here, but I've been following the fascination threads and feel as if I know you all
.I've been eating LC for a bit over four years, and I reached my goal weight in about six months. I've maintained at 115 +/- 5 lbs since then (5' 2"). I'm 46 now, and it seemed that as my 45th birthday arrived, my hormones plunged into chaos. These days I find that if I eat very low carb I run out of energy. At the moment I'm feeling best at around 60-80g per day, but everything's in a state of flux, so that number might need to change. Last edited by Ailuros : 11-24-2007 at 02:40 PM. |

On the days I eat low carb, I feel better, I have so much more energy. I think it has to do with the insuline being regulated. Then again, I just getting started.
