Thanks for the suggestions about the Fat Flush Plan. I've started looking around the web-site, but haven't yet found anything that tells you what the plan actually involves. I'll keep looking.
I've been reading Schwarzbein, particularly the second book, and wondering if there's some adrenal fatigue going on. It certainly fits with the way I've been feeling, though I don't like her suggestion that you're likely to gain weight while you heal . I know that I feel worse if I lose weight, but I worked hard to get where I am, and I don't want to regain the weight! So I'm currently trying to tread a fine line between eating lots to get as much nourishment as I can, without actually gaining weight . The way the carbs tie into adrenal fatigue in Schwarzbein's view is that when you eat very low carb, your body converts some protein into glucose for those few bodily functions that actually need glucose (Dr Eades has blogged about that, it seems to be generally agreed). She says that this process of converting protein to glucose is promoted by adrenalin. Certainly I feel pretty edgy when I eat very low carb, and it doesn't go away even after weeks. I'm wondering at the moment if the adrenalin involved isn't usually a problem, but if your adrenal glands are struggling already, then it can be problematic. Anyway, I'm eating lower in carbs than she suggests, but higher than Atkins Induction. More around the EFGT or Life Without Bread levels. I'm also taking care to spread them fairly evenly throughout the day, not to go too long between meals, and getting plenty of sleep and some, but not too much, exercise. As long as I do everything just right, I don't feel too bad, but I seem to have no tolerance at all for straying from the straight and narrow!Last edited by Ailuros : 11-26-2007 at 01:21 AM. |

Hey Peeps!
Cyber-Monday, Thanksgiving Holiday is over & it's Back-to-Work Day (ugh!) Thanks so much for starting this thread, Tooter ... Here is my Fat Flush Menu for Today. I've just dug out a copy of The Diet Cure, by Julia Ross, that I've had for a few years, but not paid all that much attention to. She has lots of information on brain chemistry, and amino acid supplements to help imbalances. I'm looking at low energy/mood issues, but she talks about cravings, too. The book looks at brain chemistry, unstable blood sugar, recovering from low calorie diets, hormone imbalances, thyroid, food addictions and allergies, yeast overgrowth, and fatty acid deficiency. I'm mentioning it here, because I think it could be very helpful for anyone who's coming back from over-restricted calories on Kimkins.
Anyway, I'm going to try some of her suggestions. I'll let you know how they work out. |

For you Newbies who have never heard the story, I'll post it for you. It's a true story about 2 of my sons that I posted here and it ended up all over the internet on joke sites (It wasn't a joke) and in Joke email forewards. Heck, I even had someone send it to me.
Here it is. ----------------------------------------------------- Where's The Tampax? Ok, I'm the only female in a house full of guys: 4 sons and a hubby. Toilet seat never down, etc.-you get the picture. Therefore, I'm the only one who would be using Female products, correct? A strange thing was happening at my house: tampons were disappearing. *insert Twilight Zone theme* It started a few months ago, when I went to my cupboard to get out a tampon and there was only one left. I could have sworn I had just bought a box the month before. So, I go back to the store, buy a new box and forget about it. The next month (that time of month), I go back to the cupboard and viola! there is only one tampon left, again! What is going on here? Gremlins? Total memory failure? I go to the store, buy another box and try to chalk it up to forgetfulness, but am really wondering, now. Later in the month, I decide to clean out my two youngest sons' closet and, Low and Behold! at the bottom of their closet are the wrappers, applicators, and the tampon themselves! Now I am starting to freak... Dear God, what are they doing with them?!! I get hold of myself, tell myself that "I am an Adult" and can handle this-despite the bizarre thoughts running through my mind. Wondering, "Do I have enough money saved up in the bank for MAJOR THERAPY?" I go to the stairs and yell to my two youngest sons to "Come Here, RIGHT NOW!!!" With their usual lack of speed, they finally appear in their room to find me staring into the bottom of their closet. I firmly, but with control, ask, "What are you doing with THOSE? Those are MINE!" My 12 year old looks like a deer caught in the headlights and is silent. My 10 year old looks at me, all innocent, and says, "Well, Mom, we were playing with our G.I. Joes and THOSE make really good SCUD missiles. What do YOU use them for?" "NEVER MIND...GO PLAY!" ---------------------------------------- So, that's the inside Joke on Scud Missiles. lol Kids!! Never a dull moment, I tell ya. |

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Everyone!!!
![]() ![]() Tooter: The Tampon story about your sons and their missiles is a good one!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Well, I have made it through another day...and, once again, a new day begins!!! ![]() I was hungry when I got around this morning. So, I had some salad: lettuce tomato cucumbers ranch dressing 4 slices of hard salami rolled-up with cream cheese(thin sliced-from deli) I do not know if this will count as low carb , but figured that it was atleast healthy...and doesn't have alot of calories.I haven't read the Adtkins book to know about much. I just figured that maybe I could gather enough info on-line to learn what choices to make!!! After eating the salad, I did a little looking on-line....no salad? ![]() ![]() I guess that I'm not suppose to be eating lettuce, cucumbers, or tomatos!?! (But the salami is okay?) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hopefully, this will tidy me over until supper Especially, if I already did something wrong today!!!!! ![]() Thanks for everyone's input yesterday!!!! ![]() Last edited by Lost and Found : 11-26-2007 at 07:44 AM. |

Lost and Found,
Eating low carb veggies is largely what Atkins is all about. Eating at least 12-15 grams of them, every day on induction, but not more than 20 total carbs a day, then more veggies on 'Ongoing Weight Loss' called OWL, usually after the two week induction. You won't find the necessary information to do the Atkins WOE on line, you really need to read the book, "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution". I actually learned a lot from their site, also. It's not a very friendly site but full of good, hard info. In other words, you won't want to hang around there and play, that is what led me to look for one that was and I landed here. Thank goodness! Bottom line, DRINK WATER, at least 64 oz. a day, preferably half your body wt. in oz. For me it is 100 oz. Eat 12-15 grams LC veggies but eat only 20 grams of carbs a day total. Exercise is recommended but not mandatory. Believe me, after the third day, you will have trouble eating enough food, your appetite will be nil, but make sure you eat/drink the requirements. BTW, I'm down another 1/2 lb. Yippee! I was very glad to see you hear this morning, that is a very good sign. Jean |

<<<Jeanran, what branch is your Grandson in? I had a son in the Marines (He is out now) He Served in Iraq and was in the Battle of Fallujah. God Bless your Grandson, and please tell him, "Thank you". Will you be going To his Bootcamp Graduation?>>>
Tooter, My grandson, James, is in the Navy. My husband, James, was commissioned in the Marine Corps and his father, James, in the Army. Both were killed in the wars, Viet Nam and WWII, but that is a tradition my GS WILL break! Thank you for your kind works and I will pass them on to him. Sadly, I don't think I will be able to attend his graduation because it falls so close to the holidays. Thanks for the info on coconut oil. I will start using it. BTW, how do you use the 'Quote message in reply?' option. I can't get the tick to take! Jean |

Lost and Found,
Oh, do I ever know what you are talking about. I can relate to everything you mentioned. I think I have something called 'irritable bowel syndrome' and find that every time I over ate a meal it would hit. IMHO, your body may be trying to adjust right now but when your body gets used to stable foods, I think it will adjust. I use a lot of flax meal and it bulks me up and keeps me moving at the same time. There are several good recipes for it's use. Muffins in a Minute with pumpkin is a favorite of mine. CONGRATULATIONS, on your success and wow, that is success. I am very proud of you. I also weigh all the time but hope the obsession with the scales will diminish. Actually, drinking water will show a quick weight loss because it flushes out your retaining water, but remember it is water weight. It will also keep you hydrated, helping to control constipation. Most importantly, it aids your kidneys and keeps you healthy. Now, how do I get enough water! I used to drink at least 88 ozs. of diet soda a day. Yes, I was addicted and went through withdrawals on induction. Light headed, weakness, lethargy...but it was so well worth it. At first I put a squeeze of lime (yes, it has carbs) in my 44 oz. McDonald's cup and kept drinking and refilling. Once I kicked the soda habit I didn't need the crutch. I take meds that keep my mouth dry so I swig constantly. Soda is dehydrating so that is why I kept drinking them to no avail. They also rob your bones, etc. You have been such an inspiration to me so please keep the questions coming. It also gives me encouragement. Jean |
