L&F

If you do a true blue induction, and then just add green veggies, I promise you will be in 100s by at least the last day of January. Give it a try.
Throw away the bread.

New One To This!!! Sorry for my stupid questions!!!

This not only is difficult, but very different!!!!

I am 41 and going to college full-time...all while trying to raise two boys by myself... after a long marriage failed. Hence, the cheap casseroles that last for more than one meal!!!! I just do not know where to begin?

My dumbness on this subject might seem to some of you, but I do not know any other way...and I am just trying to learn!!! My family...even as I grew-up...has always had noodles, bread, potatos, and rice with nearly evry meal. Like I said....this way of eating is all new to me!!!

Lost and Found,

I have been totally faithful to Atkins WOE but have been losing very slowly since going to OWL, four weeks ago. I'm not sure if I should back off the dairy or settle for slow weight loss.

It's hard not to be eager to shed the pounds, but I realize, also, that if lost slowly it is more likely to stay off.

The advice that Winslow gave, to add more greens, seems like a good plan for me.

Shall we plan on meeting at the end of January in 'onederland'?

Hi Jeanran!!!

Sure!!! I'd love to be with you in onederland on the last day of January!!!

However, I'm sure that if you change things up a little your few pounds will be off by mid-December!!!!

If I continue to hardly eat...maybe I can still get there by the first too!!!

Anyone else want to join our "Lose By The First" marathon?

My first attempt at doing low carb was with Kimkins. It sounded so good, I figured it was worth a try. After about a month, I decided it couldn't be healthy and stopped dieting. I tried South Beach, but I found it too complicated. I liked the simplicity of Kimkins, so Atkins was the natural choice. I like the feeling of Ketosis, the energy, the feeling of self-control.

I'd like to be in Onederland by Christmas, but I know its probably not possible. More realistically, I'd like to be in Onederland by my birthday in April next year, and at goal at my 40th birthday the following year.

If you only knew how much that made me giggle. YES. MAYO! Hopefully, Tooter, Dottie, et al will see this and share my giggle. Explanation? Dana's DH, "MAYO MAN" and I would have fun with it.
I always use mayo in my tuna. YUM! I'm not the queen of tuna for 'nuthin'. :h yst:

CONGRATULATIONS on college!!! CONGRATULATIONS on getting healthy for your boys. No questions are dumb! You're right, you're here to learn. We've all been at the beginning, some of us few times.
There are lot's of casseroles on the recipe board. If you need a suggestion, just give a yell. I've been doing this for so long that I make just about everything lowcarb. For example, I make lowcarb meatballs. i use parmesan and mozzarella cheese instead of the bread crumbs. People love my meatballs. Make pizza top instead of pizza. Open your fridge and use what's in there. I don't even use tomato sauce, but you can. Sprinkle cheese on your pepperoni or whatever you like, sprinkle it with some garlic and parmesan and voila, you have yourself a yummy pizza.

Hardly eating will get you to lose pounds, but you'll gain those same pounds when you eat. Been there, done that.

Mom to E : What a pretty picture you've added to your "name"!!!

Winslow: With the way you are in hysterics...and all of this talk about tuna and mayo...are you by chance talking dirty-minded?
Just kidding!!

Pear: It's not realistic for me to think that I could be in Onederland by the first neither, but without that bet (or whatever you want to call it) in the back of my mind, I will find a reason not to even stick to this...and I need to stick to this until the end!!!! Atleast, if we're trying our hardest from now, until the first, we know that we will be giving this our best shot!!! Even if we do not quite make Onederland, by the first, I bet that we will be closer than we would've been with out the companion dieting!!!

Oh, cool! There is so very much you can do with tuna, especially if you make sure to add that may0

Lost and Found - shopping for this WOE can be intimidating at first. But, I tend to make things harder than they need to be personally. I have found it more expensive to buy good for you food than the old fast to the table and lots of it food. But, as I get a bit more practice, it gets easier.

There are tons of things you can make with ground meat, for instance. I'll make spaghetti - making noodles for the family and eating mine over french cut green beans. Most mornings I have a piece of ham (lots left over from Thanksgiving!) topped with some cheese (cheddar or pepper jack are both great for this) then topped with a fried egg. I'm full, kids could eat double that if they want to and will still be full well until lunch time. Protein fills them up and keeps them that way, so you save not feeding them mid-morning snacks. I make roasts then make gravy using broth (or roast juice), cream, maybe a touch of sour cream and xanthum gum if needed. Everyone in my house is enjoying cauilflower - mashed like potatoes, fixed up like you would mac n cheese (does NOT taste like mac n cheese!). I get sliced turkey and ham from the deli (avoid the stuff that has been "honey" or otherwise sugar cured), add a slice of swiss cheese, smear on mayo that has parmesean cheese mixed with it and roll it up. One or two of those does it for me. Kiddos could have any/all of that on sandwiches if they wanted. We have salad at least at dinner every night - and who doesn't like full-fat Ranch dressing? Makes a great dipping sauce for all sorts of stuff, too.

The recipe section on this board is awesome! There are also tons of recipes out on the internet for Atkins stuff. Have fun, experiment and remember that while you pay a bit more for quality, quantity will reduce and save you money in the long run. I rarely buy processed food anymore. I figure that if it is bad for me it can't be much better for the ones I love. My ds will grab a handful of olives over a handful of chips most days, given the choice!

One last thing ... if your doctor were to tell you to eat this way or die, would you figure out a way to do it? For lots of us it is just that serious.... You are worth good health. And so are your growing boys.

Lost and Found, it doesn't sound like you have really selected a good WOE eating yet.

I do hope you will find a healthy plan and one that you can live with for the rest of your life. Many are healthy but not necessarily ones that you can live with forever.

The end of January gives you over two months (9 weeks) and you would be surprised what you can do in that length of time. The best way is to set a realistic mini goals and keep going.

Shall we set a goal to do the best we can for 9 weeks and see where we are at that time? This is a challenge, are you willing?

Hi!!!

Yes!!! I accept your challenge!!!

I hope that I find a good plan for life too!!! I figure that a good (one that I could not survive forever on) one is fine for now!!! Slow does not give me the ummph that I need to stick with it. So, I'll worry about how I'm going to incorporate food into everyday life...once I'm closer to my goal!!! Which is far away!!! By the time I get close to goal...I should've learned some new ways of living.

So, we're on!!!

Any one else joining?
Come on!!!

I've been toying with low carb for several years now and never stuck with it long enough to do much good. My best weight loss methods in the past have been getting divorced and being widowed. Since I really like my dh, I'd like to find another way to do this, ya know?

I get into ketosis at the drop of a hat. Not sure what happens, except I think I get bored. No ... not bored - there is too much variety eating this way to be bored. Maybe lazy is a better word? Whatever it is, I'd really like to form a strong netword of LFC so that when I feel myself headed down that slippery slop I'll have much emotionally invested somewhere to just cut and run!

Thanks for the heads up on the coconut oil! I have a jar of it in my cupboard wondering what I was going to do with it. Anyone know what the shelf life of that stuff is?

Support is so helpful, and the friends you'll make along the way are for life! I met 2 of my best friends low carbing. (HI WILLSMOM!!!!) We've been through thick and thin...LITERALLY...over the past 10 years.

Do you mean the stillman diet? I have, and you will lose, but you'll gain it all back hen you begin to eat. Lowcarb is for a lifetime. Once you lowcarb, you'll always be carb cautious. You'll learn what carbs you can and can't eat. Most of us stay away from sugar and white flour forever. I'm really excited for you! You're going to love this way of eating. I know it's a little scary at first, but we're here for you.

I heard about Kimkins on the news...just the other day!!! Which made me browse the internet...which brought me here!!!

I keep hearing how it was such an unhealthy diet?!? Yet, the people being interviewed-complaining- on the news were so slim and fit....after being obese!!! What is worse? Obesity or getting the weight off? Actually, I was scared to try dieting...scared of one more failure in my life!! However, being lead to these threads gave me the courage to try!!! So, if the kimkin diet has anything to do with my life, it has brought me here...which is a good thing...I now have the courage to take this weight off!!! Maybe, I am about the Kimkin thing, but just seeing those people on the news...with all of their weight off gave me the courage...for that I am grateful!!!

Thank-you...everyone for being here to help me learn a new way of living!

You will lose by starving yourself, but when you eat, you'll gain what you lost. If you do induction and then add low glycemic carbs, you'll be able to eat and lose and then maintain.
I agree that all sorts f things lead you to this board. Waaaaaaay back, in 1998 I saw the carb addict diet on Oprah. (or a show like it) Idid a search and found the old BB which lead me to this board. I decided on Atkins, but it was the TV feature on CA's that brought me here.
The BEST part about this board is it accepts all programs.

LostandFound: Glad Kimkins brought you here. For those that did stick to it, they lost a ton of weight, at 500 calories a day, anyone will lose weight... and hair, and their health. Luckily, I stopped before I had any ill effects. I wasnt as strict as some, following the plan behind the plan, so I was over 800 calories daily. Read the fascination thread if you want to know more.

Atkins is a much healthier and sustainable way to live. I dont know how those Kimkins gals are going to maintain (Alot have lost their thyroid function and their metabolism has grinded to a halt.)

I'm looking forward to seeing how my body reacts to Atkins.
