Mom to Eli

Hi there!!!

Where did you get your Vanilla whey powder? Does it cost much? I'm so new to all of this stuff!!! Everything seems like a foriegn language to me!!! I did read up on coconut oil though!! People just started dropping pounds when they started using it!!! I think that it will help my thyroid work correctly!!! I had my thyroid checked once, and it came back as hypo. So, they checked it again...it came back "with in the normal range" that time...what ever that is suppose to mean!!! I personally beleive that I have some type of hormonal imbalance from my sleep apnea...some days everything works...and sometimes it doesn't!!! So, I would love to try this out!!! I wish that I liked to sip warm drinks, but I am not a sipper. It would be alot easier to just start out with a teaspoon...and gradually work my way up to more if I could just put it in tea!!! Oh well!!! I guess that I will just have to feel like I'm cheating with the bark....although it will be a nice sweet treat!!! What the heck...I already feel like I am cheating eating this new way!!!

I dont have much to report. My pipes are clogged, if you know what I mean, I think its due to all the cheese and the iron in my multivitamins. I drank a pot of tea with coconut oil in it. I'm having a hard time eating the bark lately, it smells too much like coconut (and I dont like coconut). Maybe it will grow on me *fingers crossed*

Dinner was lox and an ice cream bar. (bad Pear, bad!)

Poor Pear!!!

I'm sorry for your problems!!! It seems that we have opposite problems!!! I do not like either one of them (our 'problems')!!!

Have you noticed a difference in anything from coconut oil?

I just made the bark with VCO, unsweetened coconut, Hershey's cocoa and toasted almonds, sweetened with a combination of stevia drops and sweet-n-low and I can't tell it from the real deal. It is awesome. I like it better than the peanut butter fudge and I'm not even a big chocolate eater. Wow-O-Wow!

It's a good thing it is so rich so I won't eat more than I should. Thanks for the recipe, I love Virgin Coconut Oil!

I havent taken it regularly enough to notice anything yet. I am hoping it loosens me up though. The taste is detering me. In tea, I dont taste the strong flavor as much. I just chug down the first cup and then move on to the rest of the pot. I do notice that I have more energy after eating it. Maybe I should take it to work and drink it in my tea instead of having coffee in the morning

I think you can get vanilla whey powder at one of the vitamin stores. I heard someone mention walmart. We're going there on Sunday (wish us luck), so I may find some.

I've found whey protein at Wal Mart, ShopKo and the Vitamin Shoppe. It's also available at GNC.

I think I Just got into making it more "natural" at the time. I had totally forgotten that!! I'm going to go back to making it with the Vanilla Whey Powder. I really liked it with that. I think I was worrying about "Problems" with it, but the Peanut butter fudge recipe (which also has the vanilla whey protein) hasn't given me any problems at all. Also, I had run out of the Vanilla Whey protein at the time.

Pear, this might also help you with the coconut taste. If you don't use the Vanilla Whey Powder, how about adding some vanilla extract or maybe some other type of extract to help change the flavor for you.

MomToEli, as to the pan size I use? I do it in a metal bread pan. I line it with aluminum foil, pour the mixture in there and then put it in my freezer to "set up". When it's hard, I break it up and put it in a container (or ziplock bag) and keep it in the fridge.

Yes, I bought mine at Walmart. It's about $11 for a large Jar of it, but it lasts a long time and can be used in so many different recipes for baking.

You probably get sick of me...but I just wanted to let you know that I went to the link that you provided about the bark!!! It looks so delicious!!! Where do you get the "whatever" you called that stuff that you added to make it more like milk chocolate...I think that I would like that better too!! Have you ever tried the white kind...or putting the flavors in the mixture (raspberry, banana, etc...) How much coconut oil do you get at wal-mart for the 9 something? I mean...if you start using a 1/4 cup at a time...a little jar would not last long!!! Yes...not because I want to be ...but I am a penny pincher (have to be )!!! Can't wait to be done with college and have a normal checkbook again!!!

By the way... I got one of my 100 point assignments back...I got 96 out of 100!!! Yay!!! I'm so happy about that...that project took me nearly 2 days to complete!!!
LF, I'm thinking it's about 16 oz for the $9?!?!? I'm going to make a run to wal-mart to get some other things, So I will check it out today.

Maybe the cheaper kind would work for you, but It wouldn't have all the other health benefits in it. I'll let you know "for sure" the price and amount when I get back from there.

Congrats on the 96!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!

It reminds me of expensive chocolate! lol Actually, one of my son's friends stopped by and saw it in the fridge and started to eat a piece of it. I was like "HONEY, that's not real chocolate, thats some of my low carb stuff". He said, "I don't care what it is, it's GOOD"!! lol

How's your tooth feeling today....better than yesterday...I hope!!!
So, how much coconut oil did you start out with a day...before working your way up to where you are now? The 'problems' that you speak of...is it granite logs, or chunky soup?

Some people get an Upset tummy from starting out with too much. I think it has to do with the Yeast/Candida Thing. The Coconut Oil has antiyeast properties so if you have an overgrowth in your intestines, they will start to "Die off". It doesn't happen in everyone. Start out with a tablespoon or so. The next day you can do 2. If your tummy is a little upset, go back to one for awhile. If there is no problem, you can increase it.

It doesn't happen with everyone, but if it were to happen, it just means decrease it a little for a day or so, then you can add more in.

HTH.

Oh, and No "Barking Spiders" at my house this morning.

There is no reason to be scared. We are in this for the Long Haul, not one day on the scales. You have been doing fantastic. No need to be scared.
