Yesterday was the hardest for me since starting Atkins. I had a huge breakfast but ate fruit for the first time. I wanted to nosh all day.

I'm not sure if it was psychological (because I knew I had eaten fruit) or actually the fructose. I barely tinted the keto stick this morning, the lightest ever.

Any suggestions from those that have experienced this?

I've never used ketostix, but apparently they are affected by all sorts of things - for instance, if you've drunk more water the ketones in your urine will be more dilute and the colour won't change as much.

I find that fruit on its own makes me hungry, but if I have a small amount of fruit with some fat (like apple or grapes and cheese, or raspberries and cream) then it's OK. I don't know if it's the acidity or the sugar that makes me feel hungry, but I've noticed it fairly consistently.

Well, not exactly "normal," but it's not totally uncommon either, to have some diarrhoea or constipation for a little while any time you make a big change in your diet, while your body adjusts. On the other hand, it could be completely unrelated - could be something you ate or some bug that's going around. I hope it settles down soon, anyway!

Read the instructions, it guides you step by step through the process.

Hopefully your daughter will get it working for you. Have you played with your palm at all?

It was time for my phone upgrade and settled on the new palm centrino. Its pretty cute. It should arrive tomorrow.
Pear,

I am all set up and can see my handwriting on my PC from my notebook but that is all I have been able to get to interact.

I haven't downloaded anything else, just waiting til my daughter gets here to figure it out.

Do you use your palm desktop or Outlook?

Congratulations on your Centrino, let us know how you like it. Thanks for your encouragement.

I have always drank tons of water, about the same every day and haven't experienced this light of color, usually on the first or second pink, but more distinguishable.

I think I will stay away from the fruit til I have more experience with Atkins.

Thanks for responding.

Another problem...

my pee smells like chicken soup

my poop reeks like 100 year old raw sewage (Even with every kind of spary...it was enough to gag a maggot!!!)

Are these problems normal?
Lost & Found, it may be all of the toxins you body is releasing. I have read that others experience this.

Why not take a look at your calorie count for yesterday, especially with all the 'exercise' to see how many you are getting.

Hi, Jean!!!

Yesterday (Wednesday), I had:

3 romaine leafs with mayo and turkey rolled-up
a few slices of turkey crammed in my mouth--hungry
1 hard boiled egg
pork rinds
small salad with olive oil drizzled on top
boneless pork tenderloin chops--fried in butter (Mmmm)

I do not think that I under ate at all do you? I think that my fat intake was quite high as well...but this is new to me.

Jean, I use the palm desktop. Although, I'm not big on using the calendar function, so its been awhile since I used it.

So, what does it do when you press sync? Do you get the screen that says its syncing and the turning blue/red circle (or whatever it does)?

Try putting something in the palm desktop, a date or a contact and see if it goes to your palm.

Try downloading one of the games I told you about. Double click on the downloaded file (after unzipping) and the palm installer program should pop up. Then the next time you sync, the program should install on your palm.

Is your palm color or black and white? If its black & white then the gem game and the mahjong game would do you no good. The shientszo (spelling?) game is great for black and white and totally addictive.

L&F, I agree with Jean, your body is probably detoxing, especially if you're using the coconut oil. Just wait to see, it should go away (I think).

I dont think we're supposed to have fruit until we're going up the OWL ladder, if I'm not mistaken, its the last rung and it may or may not throw you out of ketosis depending on your body.

For real though...I saw some coconut oil in the health food section at the grocery store...it didn't say virgin...and it was only $5. I understand that the virgin variety hasn't been overly processed () So, would it hurt to have the non-virgin for half the price? Seriously though, what's the difference?

I haven't started the coconut oil yet....waiting to see if I have to have the expensive virgin!!! What, besides adding more fat, does coconut oil do? I mean...I saw that Tooter mentioned that we need to ease into it...why?

I'm so glad this group was started! Seriously, the wisdom and experience in this group is stupendous (not to mention the heart).

Tooter, your posts here and elsewhere have convinced me I need to up my fats. Thank you! I'm going to do a major shopping trip this weekend (I live over an hour from any "major shopping", just have a rather limited local "merc" in our small town. I've been trying to do induction, but had limited groceries, and I noticed that once I ran out of eggs and mayo and butter, I was suddenly having a hard time again. Have not done well. At all. This week. I really think that the lack of fat is contributing to my cravings and loss of "willpower". So I really want to stock up on good lc food this weekend when I go "to town". I was wondering if everyone could list their favorite staples (especially fatty ones ), brands included if possible. For example, I always use Hellman's/Best Foods Mayo, but I know there's some sugar in there. Has anyone used a brand that would be better? I'm trying to keep it as natural as possible, and do a really clean induction. Any suggestions, food combos, etc would be greatly appreciated if anyone has the time. Thanks!

Coconut oil fights candida and kills off parasites in your intestines and supposedly helps your body fight off a long list of diseases (from what I've read, do a search on coconut oil here). It also aids your body in weight loss, it really jump starts it for some. Its good stuff!

Hi there!!! Nice to see you again!!! I'm kinda' new at this...I mean to give advice...but it sounds as though coconut oil is a way to increase your intake of fat!!!!

There's the chocolate bark, seared fish or shrimp, or in tea
...ways that Tooter has mentioned using coconut oil!!

I'm still trying to find out if I need to have the virgin...or if the "overly processed" kind for half the price is alright!!! (Wal-mart [virgin]=about $9, non-virgin in health food lane in grocery store = $4)

I eat Hellman's---guess that I didn't look at the ingredients...just the carb count!!!

I fry everything in real butter---that is fat!!!?!!!

I know that this probably wasn't much help, but I've only been here two weeks....still trying to learn myself....remaining on induction for awhile!!!

L&F, in my reading on the subject on the boards (alibet limited) I did read that it was important to use the good stuff. So, girlfriend, I'd suggest just biting the bullet and give it a shot!

I made Chicken Enchilada soup for lunch (enchilada sauce and canned chicken with shreeded mexi blend cheese and sour cream mixed in), along with a small salad with O/V dressing. Still wanting something crunchy. First headed for the nuts then changed my mind. I'm frying up a little cheese. Maybe I'll eat it with salsa or mix up some sour cream dip ...

Now to drink some water - got that bought so I should be set!

I think it's when we add in the High carb foods that Fat becomes an issue. At least we "Feel" it's the fat, when in fact it's the carbs (but people don't want to let go of that, so let's blame fat).
I totally agree-- I saw this in another thread, and I *think* Atkins mentions it in the book-- protein can be converted to glucose and stored by the body, so too much protein isn't great either.

re: fat. Fat is not the enemy. Processed, refined carbs are the enemy. I firmly believe that if we lived a different lifestyle, like, say, working 16hrs a day hard labor in the fields, we could eat rice or whatever at each meal-- BUT WE DON'T and there is no need for us to eat a whole bowl of pasta (what, are we running marathons every day?)... and it's the carb + fat combo that raises your cholesterol and especially the triglycerides.
Even Dr's who "don't believe" in LC know that cutting out the sugary, carby foods, like white bread, doughnuts (don't get me started on the evils of doughnuts! ) will pretty much instantly reduce your triglycerides... My dad was once told if he didn't lower his triglycerides, his liver would "turn on itself"

Ok-- off my soapbox!!!
____

So, not sure what the chinese/thai meal did for me last night-- I was up a bit on the scale, BUT my keto stix still showed trace this morning... I'm happy if I see any pink, so while I'm not having that kind of food every day/night, I think I made good choices there.

My cold just isn't going away though, and that's bothering me, since I have an onsite business trip starting monday. Should I bother calling the doctor and have her check me out again? (I saw her at the beginning of this cold too...)

Food today:
B: 2 baby bel cheeses (2 or 2.5 oz together)
water, 2 mugs of herbal tea with splenda
L: rotisserie chicken breast and leg/thigh (1/2 chicken), small caesar salad.
I did have some of the sauce that comes with the chicken, so I have to get out of that habit, b/c I'm sure it's full of starch...

Dinner-- probably tilapia in brown butter (sounds fancy, is so easy, it's in Dana Carpender's first book I think..).

Oh, and I have a massage tonight too, yay! my insurance picks up the tab on those, so I'm trying to get as many as I can before the end of the year!

Happy Day all!

Oh, I am very envious about this one. I'm really pretty sure ours does NOT cover massage. Chiropractic (which I can't participate in for medical reasons) yes - massage, no

MomToEli, you made me so hungry for Pozole when I saw your chicken enchilada soup. I looked up the recipe and if I don't add the hominy ( I love hominy) I think it would make a great soup this winter. I can serve it with shredded cabbage, cilantro and a squeeze of lime. Oh, you have got my creative juices flowing! Thanks.

I just discovered that I'm allergic to eggs . Eating mayo makes my mouth and throat itch. I've been eating it for years, so I can't work out if it's just started or I was too unobservant to notice it before. I'm not pleased about it! It's not so bad that I absolutely can't touch eggs, but it doesn't seem a good idea to eat lots of something that causes a bad reaction . I love mayonnaise .

Thanks so much for the info!!!

Your Chicken Enchilada soup sounds good!!!

My problem is crunching too (chips, peanuts, etc.)...so I put some BBQ pork rinds in the cupboard just for those times!!!
