Pear, I received my palm yesterday but am so dense I'm not sure how to hot sync it but my grandson will be home in a couple of hours and he said he would help me with it. It is all set up but I'm lost from there. I think it has a lot of possibilities.

Do you use it for other things, and if so, what? I was surprised that it has a 'carb list' built in, not calories but carbs, imagine that.

Wow, your palm has a carb list???? Thats neat! What is the name of that program?

I use TASKS for grocery lists and check them off as I get each item.
I dont usually use the calendar.
I use the address book (self explanatory)
I really like the games "Gem Heist" and "Shisensho" and "FreeJongg" all free on the web.
I use the calculator to convert between metric and imperial (US) measurements for recipes.
I sometimes use the Wifi for surfing the web.
You can download TIBR (Tiny Book Reader) and the converter to convert long articles into a book on your palm.
You can use BibleReader (another free download) to take along your favorite version, it has a neat search function.
Of course Carblog is free, I posted the link earlier.
Mine plays MP3's and stores pictures and videos.

I'm sure your grandson will help teach you how to sync. You'll learn everything else over time.

Oh, to upload a picture. Sign up for a free photobucket account. Upload your pictures. It will give you the code at the bottom of each picture, click to highlight the code (bottom one of the three) and post that code here.

I have a copy of the USDA food database on mine - you can download versions for PC and Palm from their website.

I use the address book, and the alarm. I don't often use the book reader, but I keep a few things on there so I have something to read if I have an unexpected delay somewhere. I have lots of other bits and pieces of shareware. And the Palm version of filemaker, so I can have my recipe database on their - it's been useful more times than you'd think when we're staying with someone else and I'm cooking - yes, I have a bad habit of taking over other people's kitchens.

I have been really well on low carb (lost 23 pounds) but with the bitterly cold weather its getting really hard to stay low carb (which I am still doing).
Any hints or suggestions for cold weather coping.
thanks

Power at home has been out most of the day due to an accident. It just came back on. Dinner was smoked gouda and canadian bacon. Can't beat it. Tres Yummy.

I'm only at 9 carbs for the day.

Tooter, how much coconut oil did you take when you started losing weight and continued to lose your weight?

TZ, good job on your 23lb loss!!! KUTGW! How long have you been at it again?

Ailorus, I downloaded the food guide, and will sync it on tomorrow.

Lots to respond to!

TZ-- I like to make soups, and have them hot for lunch-- usually some sauteed veggies, then add broth, and cook till the veggies are super soft... then puree (I use an immersion or stick type blender, but you could also do it in batches in a blender (take the middle part of the lid out and cover with a cloth, so the steam doesn't explode the top off...)... veggies could be mushroom or zucchini, and some onion, maybe broccoli or cauliflower... some herbs, like summer savory, or cumin or curry, would be good as flavors in there.
I also add a brick of cream cheese and blend it in for a cream soup.

Anything in the crockpot is good, and homey, and makes lots of food for a week, and most recipes are basically a cheap cut of meat, a bit of liquid, veggies, flavor of your choice, and cook for like 8hrs while you're out

Jeanran, Pear, Ailuros-- I also love my Palm! I have a Treo-- I was using it more when I was using it for work and personal, but now work switched to Blackberries () but I still have my Treo for my other stuff... I have a bunch of games and mp3's-- I travel a LOT for my job... I also have a diet and exercise tracker, which has a food list with nutritional info... it's a pretty detailed program, but it's great (when I use it)... it's called diet and exerercise tracker I think and it's pretty popular, so it should be easy to find and download a trial.

Eggplant-- another thing that we do in our family (this is sort of a traditional food but I like it all the time) is "eggplant caviar" though I just call it eggplant
Cut a big eggplant in half lenthwise, and roast it till it's good and soft, even a bit brown (the skin will change color, and wrinkle)... 350 for 1/2hr or longer, maybe an hour.
When it's cool enough, scoop it all out, discard the skin, and put that in a food processor, or even just a big bowl.
Mix it well with some olive oil, finely chopped onion (or green onions, which are more LC), and some finely chopped red and green peppers (1/2 a pepper or so of each color, to taste). Salt and pepper to taste.

OMG  I just love that, and I don't make it as much as I would like (again, only me eating eggplant ).

********
Food today:
B and L as described earlier I think--
Snack-- had some beef jerky (homemade), 1L of water with flavor, 4 crackers (12g I think for the 4) and a good 2oz of great camembert type cheese... also 2 pepperoni sticks (turkey) and a babybel cheese

Dinner - DH was running super late, so he picked up chinese/thai--
I had 3 chicken wings (just the drumstick part) b/c they were breaded
some mango beef-- beef, veggies, a wee bit of mango, coconut milk-- seemed like no extra sugar or thickener
tom yum soup-- spicy broth, with peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, thai basil, and chicken.

no dessert... Instead I decorated the Christmas tree with DH

I've done really well today. Since breakfast I've had 3 cups of tea with Splenda and a couple of teaspoons (just regular ones for the table) of Coconut Oil. Tooter, I'm so with you on the coffee

I honestly can't remember if I ate anything for lunch ... I remember making ds's PB&J, and I know for SURE I did NOT have one of those! For dinner I had chicken breast and green beans cooked with butter. Then just a bit ago I had a mock danish. I do love those. So yes, I keep cream cheese on hand in rather large quantities

I will make up some bark tomorrow. I'll scoure the cabinets to see if I have any unsweetened coconut - I do like Mounds bars

I didn't drink near enough water, though. I so prefer bottled and totally spaced buying any at the store tonight. If I'm able to get into town before the storm hits I'll pick some up. Otherwise I get myself to drink from the tap ...

Tooter, your story of your son's duffle bag made my heart skip a beat. I can't imagine. Well, I can imagine, but I'm sure it is far from the reality of actually picking that up and knowing it was your baby's ... I'm glad he's home and back to being a civilian.

And Jean, I'll add your grandson to our prayer list. Do you mind if I ask his first name?

Thank you all for the support as I try to get this figured out.

So, foodwise, today was a good one. I get into ketosis really quick but I have a question -- is it possible to eat too much fat, to be in ketosis but only burning the fat you ingest?

Thanks so much for the heads up on the palm, everyone. It is just the beginners Z22. I still don't have it synced up yet and I am thinking it might be because I have Vista Windows Mail and not Outlook.

Since my grandson couldn't get it to work, my daughter said she would come over and work it out. She has had a palm so hopefully, I can download some of the great programs you all have mentioned.

MomToEli, my grandson's name is James and I appreciate the thoughts and prayers.

You'll get it to work, dont worry. You can use the palm desktop for your calendar and contacts. Its really easy to use. Did you install the software already? It asks what you want to sync with - outlook or palm desktop. You plug in the cradle (or cable) to your computer via a USB cable and press the sync button. Read the instructions, it guides you step by step through the process.

Hopefully your daughter will get it working for you. Have you played with your palm at all?

It was time for my phone upgrade and settled on the new palm centrino. Its pretty cute. It should arrive tomorrow.

Hello everyone!!!

Yesterday (Wednesday), I had:

3 romaine leafs with mayo and turkey rolled-up
a few slices of turkey crammed in my mouth--hungry
1 hard boiled egg
pork rinds
small salad with olive oil drizzled on top
boneless pork tenderloin chops--fried in butter (Mmmm)

Also, exercised...not by choice (shoveled 6 inches of wet, heavy snow for 3 hours!!! )

After shoveling, I seemed to get hungry!!!

Tooter, you look very pretty in these pictures...and your son very handsome!!! I'm so glad he made it back fine, and I'm sorry for his friends---who haven't!!! I know what it is like to lose a child...and no one should EVER have to experience that kind of pain!!! My heart, and thoughts, go out to those who have had to share in my feelings of grief, complete emptiness, and the hopeless feeling that riddles one's life for years when they are gone!!!

It gives you energy after you drink it. The Best way (in my opinion) to get it in your diet is to make coconut oil bark. Melt the coconut oil, add some cocoa powder and sweetener. Mix it up and taste it (to see if it's sweet enough). Then line a pan (I use a bread pan) with foil and pop it in your freezer. The freezer makes it harden quicker. When it's hard, break it up like you would "Bark". It's like a candy bar. Store it in the fridge and it will stay hard. I sometimes add different flavorings to it...or Unsweetened Coconut and chopped almonds (It's like a mounds candy bar).

Coconut oil is Great to fry foods in. Mine has a slightly coconut oil taste to it, so I like it best frying fish or doing stir frys.

Coconut oil has a very long shelf life. I'm sure yours is just fine.

What about making sure you have a little "Cream Cheese" on hand? Like I said, I will take a tablespoon or two and add sweetner to taste, and it's like a fast Cheese Cake. The fat really fills me up. Oh, sometimes I will add a little peanut butter to the mixture and it's between a peanut butter cheese cake and peanut butter fudge.

Hang in there, we are gonna help you find what works for ya!
What would happen if you bought the non-virgin (more experienced, but cheaper) kind?

It's also very difficult to do without overheating the oil and having the house smell of burned fat for days. The way I do it now is to slice the aubergines 1/3 inch thick, brush both sides with olive oil and cook for about 40 mins at 400ºF, turning the slices over half way through. They'll keep for a few days in the fridge, and you can use them in moussaka or parmigiana type dishes, or topped with a slice of mozzarella and some tomato & basil - cold or hot.

For moussaka, you make layers of cooked minced lamb (with tomato, onion, oregano, cinnamon, allspice) alternated with the aubergine, then top it with Greek yoghurt mixed with cheese and a couple of egg yolks. Bake the whole thing in the oven till it's heated through and browned a bit on top.

Like lasagne type dishes it's a bit labour-intensive for two people for one meal, but sometimes I feel like doing it anyway, and I'll generally make enough that we get more than one meal from it. We'll have it with a green salad and a glass of red wine.

That's my contribution to the menu suggestions for today . Now I'm off to eat it .
Your dinner...from yesterday...sounds delicious!!! Keep the ideas coming!!!

sorenkkg has given you alot of great ideas. I agree that it's easy to cook in the summer time (low carb) because you can just grill everything.

You can buy cheaper cuts of meats/roast/chicken and throw them in the crock pot.

You can make a roast, gravy and Mock potatoes (Putting cauliflower through a food processor and then adding cream cheese ).

Pork roast and Sauerkraut.

Roast cooked with turnips.

Taco meat (and fill a Romaine lettuce leaf with the meat and fixins).

Hot Dog Casserole, Hot dogs, beanless chili sauce and Shredded Cheese.

I like to make sort of a Tortilla Soup. Chicken, Chicken broth and add cumin to it (for the taste of the soup) then add any types of low carb veggies that you want in it.

French onion soup!! Beef Broth with a little bit of cooked onion and Wostershire sauce (or known as "whatsthishear" sauce) lol I will microwave it in a cup and add shredded mozzarella cheese to it. The cheese melts in the soup and it's awesome.

You could make any type of soup you wanted and just add low carb veggies.

If you are past induction and can have dreamfield pasta once in awhile, you could make mack and cheese.

You could make spaghetti sauce and have it on top of Spaghetti Squash.

Flatten a Chicken breast, put ham, cheese and pepperoni in it. Secure it with tooth picks and bake it. Serve with a little low carb pizza sauce on top. This is KILLER and will kill any pizza craving you have.

If you made a chicken, that could be one nights meal. The next night you could make Chicken Nachos. Chunks of chicken meat on a cookie sheet (or a microwave safe plate) Add some Shredded Cheese, pepper rings and mexican spieces/seasonings. Cook it until the cheese is melted and serve with a little salsa and sour cream. The next night you could boil up the left over bones and make a chicken stock. Add any left over meat and low carb veggies and you have a soup.

You could do the same with a Cheap Beef Roast. The first night you could have it with Mock mashed potatoes (or any cooked low carb veggie). The next night You could make something else out of the meat and the 3rd night you could make a beef based soup.

You start out slow and up it gradually. Now? about 3 to 4 tablespoons, more if I eat the coconut oil bark. Of coarse there are some days I forget or don't use it. Some people need to adjust slowly to the coconut oil, other's don't have a problem.
