If you're hungry, eat. It's important to have some LC stuff around for these times. Do you have any cooked meat? Tuna & mayo? Cottage cheese? Protein powder? Something quick and easy to keep you going till dinner. Don't stay hungry, you really don't have to starve to do this .

No, No, and No!!!! I need to go shopping!!!! Plus, I have a problem!!! I'm afraid to eat!!! Like if I eat....I will loose all sense of portion control!!! That's why being strict works best for me...otherwise grazing all day adds up!!!

Eventually you won't be grazing all day, but it takes a bit of time to get the hang of making sure you have enough at one meal to last you until the next one. Some people plan for 4 or 5 smaller meals through the day, but if you prefer to just go for three, then they need to be a bit bigger so they'll carry you for longer. And if you get it wrong, then it's better to eat than starve. Honestly . Cheese? Egg? Anything in the cupboard? Peanut butter? Nuts? Salami?

Well, at least you know some of the things you can put on your shopping list .

I do not think that I can have peanut butter on my "induction" period, but the other things sound good!!!

I guess that I won't be having salad or broccoli with my dinner....only enough for the boys!!! All I will be eating is roasted pork roast.

I know that the 1979 version of Adtkins induction is much more strict, but can you tell me some of the differences?

I guess that I wasn't planning this very well!!! I saw the Kimkin saga on the news one morning, which made me look on the computer, which brought me to you guys....and since I hadn't eaten yet that day...I just decided that I would start right then!!! So, there aren't very many good choices around here yet!!! Even with all of the temptations....I haven't cheated once...unless I ate something I shouldn't have without knowing any better!!! (The one time-one that first day- that I contaminated the tuna with 2 slices of vienna bread---Winslow!!!) Except for maybe getting carbs from lettuce...or broccoli...I haven't really had much of anything else besides eggs and meat!!!!

I'm here, I'm here, don't worry, I haven't deserted you, Lost and Found. I've just had a busy couple of days.

How are you feeling? Are you getting your 12-15 carbs of veggies every day? You can't believe how important that is to keeping up your energy and balancing your system.

I know, once a mother, always a mother, right??? (wink)

Now, you can push me to exercise, I need encouragement in that area, for sure. Get out the old wet noodle if you have to, OK?

Does anyone here eat the flavored pork rinds? They sure do help me with the munchies but I don't eat them everyday for fear that I will get tired of them.

Celery is one of my favorites, I use it with so many things and it gives that crunch and moisture that adds so much. I use it with tuna/or canned turkey/or chicken/or egg salad and once you are off induction you can use it with peanut or almond butter or cream cheese if your body allows it.

Keep up the good work, it's good to hang out here where you get such good support and you are a good cheer leader, yourself.

They say this is not a diet but a way of life and I can believe it because I am never tempted to cheat and certainly feel I'm not on a diet. I have always had to graze, having been diagnosed with hypoglycemia at age 10 so this was made for me.

Jean

Good to see that you are still here!!!!

I do not know how many grams of veggies I am getting!!! I just know that I try to eat some LC variety atleast once/day. (Usually lettuce) I mostly eat meat and eggs!!!

I tried the pork rinds....my problem was with chips and breads. One day this week, I was craving chips really bad. The pork rinds helped take care of that!!! I haven't gone overboard with them though...due to calories. It's nice to know that there is something out there to take care of these urges though!!!

So, are you going to exercise today?

Today (Friday) makes day number seven for me!!! I hope to start adding a little exercise into my life...at the end of my second week!!!! Also, I hope that the scale reads lower next time I look!!!!

Since starting in October...how are you doing with all of it...besides liking the fact that you can graze?

By the way.....nice picture!!!!!

Good morning! Lost and Found, it sounds to me like you're definitely not getting enough veggies. Hope you don't mind me saying so. If you'll google "number of carbs in vegetables" you'll see that there are several out there that are really low in carbs and you can have a bunch of them. I think green beans and spinach are on the list. Watercress lettuce actually has little to no nutritional value, so maybe you can use raw spinach instead. it has so much iron. I'm just concerned, because it sounds like you're not getting much veggie nutrition. With your busy/crazy schedule, you need to be healthy! I like french cut green beans, cold, with some type of drressing like caeser or ranch. Just a dab'll do, of the dressing!

Last night I made deep dish pizza, a recipe I got off the LC Recipe Room. It was fantastic! I brought some for my lunch today. I guess I'm not on the induction diet, but maybe the maintenance plan because I'm not as strict as the induction part. I put chicken (baked at Kroger), raw spinach, sauteed mushrooms and onions on it and it was so good. It's the recipe that you bake the crust and let it cool before you add the other toppings. While I let it cool, i made my lunch for today, which is chicken livers with bacon wrapped around them. I treat myself to that about twice a month. How's everybody doing today? I know it's still early. Tooter, how did the painting go yesterday? I need to paint my living room so badly, but I hate to get everything prepped. What a pain!

Imustbecrazy, the painting is going ok. It should be done today. You are so right, it's the preparing that is such a pain in the dupa. The cleaning, the taping, etc...

Btw, I have 3 dogs. 2 boxers and an Olde English Bulldogge. There is a difference between an English Bulldog and and Olde English Bulldogge. The Olde English Bulldogge is bred to be what Bulldogs used to be in the 1800's before they bred the English Bulldog down. So, I'm a huge dog lover too. What kinds of dogs do you have?

Hi Tooter! Glad to see you're online, too. what color are you painting your kitchen area? I have two min pins, two golden retreiver mix (mama and son), and one catahoula leopard hound. All but the boy golden are second-hand dogs from rescues, or strays, and Minnie, the one in my picture was from someone who had to move and couldn't keep her. I drove 7 hours to go get her. I love them sooo much! I never knew there was a diff. between English/old English. It sounds like the fat cuddly type? You have quite a handful with 2 boxers!

Hello Ailuros. We haven't really met yet. Your name is interesting. Is there a special meaning, or is that your birth name?

Hello, IMBC. Ailuros is the Greek name for the Egyptian goddess Bast. It's not my birth name, I just liked the idea of being a feline divinity . And the name Bast was already taken, so I googled to find an alternative version.

Oh, I like Ailuros much better than bast. It's nice to be talking to an Egyptian goddess!

Well, I just had my warmed-over livers. They're much better when they're fresh! I'm having my second cup of coffee now. It's little.

Lost and Found, there is a "Mindset" change that has to be made. Eating less isn't better. The beauty of low carb is that you don't have to go hungry and you shouldn't.

As I said before, FAT is good for you. Fat actually helps you lose weight and keeps you satisfied without being hungry.

When you are hungry (Like 2 hours before dinner) it's your body telling you that you need something. That's totally different from a craving. Theses are the times that Fat is truly your friend (at least for me) I will get a little cream cheese and then add splenda or another sweetner to it. It taste like cheese cake and then the hunger pains are all gone. My Tea with Coconut oil does the same thing. I don't worry about the calories. All calories are not equal and our bodies don't process them the same way.

Don't be afraid of low carb veggies. Salads, Green beans, Broccoli etc. Make sure you have "Fat" with them. I love to eat mine with butter and I don't worry about how much butter.

I have found (for me) that I do have to watch Cheese. Not cream cheese, but other cheeses. I can eat too much of them and they then can stall me, but that's something that each person has to find out on their own with their own body. Imustbecrazy doesn't seem to have a problem with it. See what I mean about learning about your own body?

Right now, you are still at the point of induction and your body switching the way it process' food. Most people tend to eat alot when going on induction and still lose weight. It's getting their bodies to adjust and also their mindset. I remember days of just eating and eating. Then things tend to "even out" and your not eating as much, but you still need to make sure that you are getting enough Fats, protein and healthy carbs in Veggies.

After you have gone through induction, your body is processing foods right, your cravings are under control and you have detoxed. It is then that you truly can see how "your" body reacts to different foods and how much food (and what kinds) you need to lose weight. Less is not always better. Sometimes people get in the mindset that if they eat less, they will lose faster. Not true. There is a balancing act.

It's a Journey of Discovery. Don't ever go hungry. If you are hungry, your body is telling you that you need something.

For me? I have learned that my body is telling me I need more fat. I know your mind screams "But, the news and everything says fat is bad". I don't listen to them anymore. This is another reason the Gary Taubes book is so freeing...You see that you shouldn't be taking these people's advice in the first place and that for thousands of years we ate Fat with our meat. Fat has an importance in our health.

Give yourself time. You are just starting out and learning...Not only a new way of eating but also about your own body and emotions (mindset).

Oh and just to give you some background, In high school I was anorexic and bulimic. I know too well about starvation and also Binge eating. Going from one extreme to the other, then desperately trying to get rid of the evidence.

I WISH I knew about low carb back then. I would NEVER starve myself again, nor go hungry. Because of how I eat, I don't have those uncontrollable cravings and I don't binge. And to top it off, I have fantastic health. More energy then I had in my 20's. A clear mind with no brain fog. No mood swings. Hormones are balanced. I used to have IBS with God Awful bloat. No symptoms at all when I am eating low carb. They only come back, if I go back to my old ways of eating.

The Thing about Kimkins, is that it had you starve yourself. Not only did you starve yourself (You didnt get fat nor the other nutrients you need) but you became malnurished. You lost weight fast at first and then a Stall and your health went down hill. Your hormones get out of balance. Then you had the Fear factor of gaining the weight and denial about your health. Then the obsessive thoughts on food and the Binging, the guilt and the going back to starving.

The best advice I can give? Keep your low carb as natural as you can (least amount of processing and food closest to it's natural form) Make sure you are getting enough Good fats, good protein, and Enjoy your low carb veggies. To this day, I try and be consistant this way. Once in awhile I will have some of the more processed foods (Like the low carb pita bread pizza), but my "Base" is always the "closer" to Natural low carb. It's not perfect (nothing is) but it's close. That's how I keep my "Balance". I have learned the process foods tend to cause cravings, weight gain and even bloat for me. Once in awhile, no problems. Everyday? It all comes back.

Hi!!!

That pizza sounds soooooo good, but I probably can not have it yet!!! Every salad dressing that I have in the fridge has carbs in it....even the regular (not low fat) kind. I hate a dry salad!!! So, I haven't been having too much of that...except using an idea from Tooter....use a Romaine lettuce leaf, put mayo on it, put meat, and roll it up...presto...you have a sandwich!!! I looked on a can of green beans...4 carbs/serving!!! I just do not want to ruin what I've done. So, I guess that I've been overly watching my carbs....normally get 10, or less a day!!!!

I have never heard of the catahoula Leopard hound. I'm going to have to do a "Search" on it to see what they look like.

I love my dogs too. I don't think I could ever live without one. They bring so much Joy!!! The Olde English Bulldogge looks like the bulldog in the OLD cartoons. Higher ears that are floppy and a pushed in face, but not as pushed in as the English Bulldog. And they do have wrinkles!! lol I'll have to post a pic sometime of him. His name is "Higgins". It's like a bulldog/mastiff in a short body. Like a Dwarf Body Builder. lol

My Boxers? I adore them!!! Boxer have got to be my favorite breed of all time. My Male is a Brindle and is hands down the best dog I have ever known. Gentle, smart, loving and has wisdom. He also can make me laugh at the drop of a hat. When My Granddaughter was born they were Staying with us and when she would cry, Cain (that's his name) would go lick my DIL's feet to wake her up to get the baby and then he would go sit by the baby's crib waiting for DIL to come get her. He also is the type that doesn't like the "boys" (I have 4 sons) to wrestle or rough house. It upsets him and he is afraid of one of them getting hurt. At first he will run and get a toy and try to come between them, then if they don't stop he will grab the arm of one of them and pull them away from each other. After that, He barks at them and tells them off. LOL He just has such an Awesome "Spirit". You can't teach that kind of stuff. You can teach him tricks though, and he knows alot of them.

My Other boxer is a female who is Fawn, but not the "Red" Fawn. She is almost blonde. Dixie is her name. Striking Dog. Boxers can't be considered "Pretty" (Most will call them handsome) but honestly, she IS a pretty boxer and built like a brick house. She is a DIVA and rules the house. Loving, but still a Diva and doesn't need to be around us 24/7 like Cain does.

Higgins? (The Bulldogge) He is extremely sweet and is like a short gentle giant. He follows Cain where ever Cain goes. Very loving and very submissive. He cracks me up because he thinks he is a boxer!! LOL He thinks he can leap and jump like them and he's just not built like that, but he sure tries.

They crack us up and bring such Joy to the family.

Oh, I never answered your question about the paint color. It's called Briarroot. A Dark Tan color with Sunny undertones.

Sweetie, it's LOW carb, not NO Carb. Yes, you are overly watching your carbs and having a fear of carbs. Remember, it's the TYPE of carbs you eat.
There is a big difference between 4 carbs of Green beans and 4 carbs of bread. Do you see my point? The Green beans are natural and the bread is processed with flours and starch and some sugar. Remember me telling you to go for the closest to "natural" thing? This is what I mean. Your body will know what to do with Green Beans (It's natural) But with the bread? All those different flours, starches and sugars? Your body kinda says "Hey, what do we do with this? This isn't Real food? Is it Wall spackling? How do we process it? And it slows your body down.

Oil and Vinegar is a Great salad dressing. Very low in carbs. Have the blue cheese dressing or Ranch. You keep your carbs Low, not nonexistent. I think we have ALL been there, in the beginning. Your better choices for Salad dressing would be Oil and Vinegar (the most natural), Ranch, Blue Cheese and Italin and Greek. You also don't want to get bored and want to enjoy your foods.

LOW CARB, not NO CARB!
