Well L&F, about my poor eating habits and my weight...God has blessed me with a high metabolism throughout my life. I'm in my 40's, the age, as I've been reading, that heart problems and bad things really can start kicking in, and I don't exercise . I started lifting weights for exercise when I was 19 and continued until 10 years ago when I got cancer of the uterus and just had no energy to do it. I have tried to start back several times since I got well, but I just can't seem to get back into it. I gained a lot of weight after I recovered and that's when I started the Atkins thing. My job requires a lot of sitting, so I have to take control now before my butt and thighs take control over me! They're growing and the cellulite is NOT pretty! So, all of that is why I started the diet. I want to live healthy for a long, long time and look better. I need to start walking. Anybody want to come to Georgia and walk with me?
I'm sorry to hear about your bouts with uterine cancer. I went throught the same thing....had to have a historectomy!!! I'm sure that you will get to where you need to be soon!!! I hear that muscles have memmory....if you used them once before, they come back easier!!! One question: I read somewhere that when changing your eating habits...you should wait atleast a couple of weeks to add new exercises...or your body will rebel. Do you think that is true?

I'm painting my kitchen. Cleaning out all the cupboards and re-organizing. It's a large kitchen, built OPEN (if you know what I mean) so it's alot of work. It's looking great, but I really dropped the ball today and played too much on here. lol

I'm not really old, but OLDER then kim. It's kinda been a running joke in another thread. lol

L&F, some of the plans have a quick start kind of a book - not too much reading, just what to do. The Protein Power one is by Dr Mike Eades and Dr Mary Dan Eades (husband and wife team) and is called the 30 Day Low Carb Diet Solution (it gives 30 days of sample menus). Someone else might know if there's a similar book for Atkins. Just thought it might be a useful reference if you don't have time to read the big books.

Kim, I hope you don't mind if I ask a question too? Along with various pre-menopausal hormonal quirks, I'm finding that my sacroiliac get very unstable pre-menstrually. Is there anything you could point me at that might help strengthen/stabilise?

I've never had a problem with change of diet and new exercises, but of course, everybody is different. I would say not to do the new stuff to strenuously or there might be some type of not so great reaction like really low energy. Just ease into something new instead of doing it full force all at once.

Tooter, it's great to see what you look like. Great haircut! Mine is longer than it was in my pic. I've been growing it out to wear in a pony tail...so much easier!

Even though I'm a newbie who just joined yesterday, welcome to everybody who is newer than me!

By the way, L&F, the books can often be picked up very cheaply second hand.

I never buy a new book. Amazon has amazing prices on used books, as well as Ebay. Some start at under 2 bucks. I use the library all the time, but like Tooter said, sometimes the ones you want, especially about these topics, are in demand and not available.
Tooter, you don't look like an elf! Well, maybe a really cute one!
