Well, I am not advocating caffeine, BUT waaaaaay back when I read the 1970s atkins book, I decided that I wouldn't give up coffee. Coffee doesn't stimulate my appetite, it actually suppresses it. I drink enough water so that it doesn't dehydrate me.
The medical research says that the process that takes the caffeine out of the coffee beans is a carcinogen.
The most recent published research is great news for coffee drinkers. It has been proven that drinking not 1, not 2, but 3 cups of coffee a day is deters colon cancer.
My honest opinion is to do your own research and make your own decision. I will not recommend anyone drink coffee. I do and will never give it up.

I don't know if this will sway your choice of plan, but coffee is allowed on Protein Power .

psst........ I never did without my coffee and neither did Winslow. The "Coffee" thing doesn't effect everyone, only some people. I have cut out diet pepsi (I do have some once in awhile) but the reason was not because it slowed weight loss down. It never did for me. So, it's one of those things where "Your mileage may vary". I think it depends on how insulin resistant you are. So, it didn't apply to me, nor to Winslow.

Frankly, I would have killed someone if I went without my coffee!! LOL

I replied earlier, but I guess i did something wrong and it didn't post. Oh well! I'll buy the Gary Taubes book because I like to highlight, underline, fold down pages, read and reread...you get the picture. By the way, I don't have internet at home because I'm very frugal (not cheap!)

Okay, i've been wanting to do this since I read through the threads yesterday:
For breakfast, I had some cubes of colby and monterey jack cheese,
a cup of coffee with whole cream, yummy, and a stalk of celery. I took a bunch of vitamins and 3 herb capsules, so i hope there were minimal carbs in them.

for my mid morning snack I had some cheese. I had to come to work at 6 a.m., so 9:00 was mid morning for me.

Is this the wrong place for me to post what I ate? I noticed that Winslow did, but nobody else.

Good job! Post away. That's the best way to get feedback.
I have to be careful with cheese. I've noticed over the years that when the scale won't budge, if I cut the cheese for a few days it moves.

No, you can post anything you want in here. We share alot of things. I'll post mine in a few.

Honey, you need to be eating more. Keep posting, we will help with ideas and give you a "Heads up" if your menu doesn't look right.

I concur (Cream cheese doesn't effect me though and is actually helpful for me). I watch my Cheese, usually just use it in Salads (Great way for portion control) or for a once in awhile fancy recipe. All the time tends to slow me down.

Oh, from the sounds of you...you MUST buy the book. I read it quickly through once, and now I am in the process of going back with highlights and notes!! LOL It's one of those books that you will keep going back to. It's also one of those books that I would NEVER let anyone borrow.

Winslow and Tooter: Well, I've had a problem with my stomach since Monday and don't have much of an appetite. Maybe it's a virus. Trust me, this is unusual. I'm a big eater, and love good food. That's why the low carb thing is not so hard for me. I agree about the cheese from past experiences. I have to watch it, so I'm trying to have no more than about 4 oz a day. it's hard for me to find snacks that i don't get sick of, and like I mentioned, maybe in another area, i tend to over eat things. I went crazy with pork skins and then I was sick of them. I don't know how to eat in moderation and that has truly been a problem for me. I'm not overweight, but I eat too much for my health, if that makes sense. Eating low carb has helped me to get back on track with things. i've done it about 3-4 times, but i think this time, I'm going to make it a way of life. I feel better.

Yeah!!! I do not get it?!? I was in the grocery store the other day...and I noticed this really thin lady...I happened to glance at the contents of her cart. Not one thing that was low carb!!!! (Breaded frozen chicken nuggets, marshmallows, bagels, frozen pizza) I thought to myself...how do some people eat so poorly and not be overweight?

If you haven't been eating right...and you're not overweight...consider yourself lucky...Imustbecrazy!!! That is good that you are simply changing your lifestyle to feel better!!!

No...Tooter...I'm not making fun of your user name!!!

It's just that...well...I do cut the cheese more than most people...especially when I'm mad!!!!

Living with only my boys...I'm not the only one around here who lets the air flow freely!!! It has become a way of economical entertainment around here!!!

Whooooopssss!!! Did you feel the breeze go through your hair on that one?

SORRY!!! I just had to "let it out" of the bag right now!!

Thank you Winslow! That's Minnie, one of my 5 dogs. I have another one that looks just like her! They're all my special babies.

Well L&F, about my poor eating habits and my weight...God has blessed me with a high metabolism throughout my life. I'm in my 40's, the age, as I've been reading, that heart problems and bad things really can start kicking in, and I don't exercise . I started lifting weights for exercise when I was 19 and continued until 10 years ago when I got cancer of the uterus and just had no energy to do it. I have tried to start back several times since I got well, but I just can't seem to get back into it. I gained a lot of weight after I recovered and that's when I started the Atkins thing. My job requires a lot of sitting, so I have to take control now before my butt and thighs take control over me! They're growing and the cellulite is NOT pretty! So, all of that is why I started the diet. I want to live healthy for a long, long time and look better. I need to start walking. Anybody want to come to Georgia and walk with me?
