Up a tick on the scale but ate pretty well yesterday. I was extremely low on the carbs and high on the cals.
Played about 2 hours worth of walleyball last night and plan to take a walk today at lunchtime. I would like to get to the gym either sat or sunday morning. Keeping it short today. Have a great weekend everyone |

quik-check in
Going good - had picked up some cold-pressed flax seed oil at TJoe's and with the fish oil complex and sunflower kernels been "reading" a lot at the Library. Scale going down. yes. Up to March in old thread - some good links posted. Giving arms and shoulders rest day - as per our midweek 'streaker' Star, and Adam and Marvin's recco's. BTW, ADAM, linked worked for me. Be back later. - mack Last edited by Mack : 10-26-2007 at 09:08 AM. |

Hi guys,
Good day yesterday, kept it clean, even though I'm "technically" not supposed to have peanuts yet, I had a bag yesterday along with lunch, because I felt pretty hungry. It didn't have any negative effect on my loss and I'm down another tick this morning. Tonight will be a challenge. It's our neighborhood Poker night for the guys and there is usually a lot of fried foods and alcohol. I'm going to take two different types of sausages, so I have something to pick at, and I think there will be hot wings, so I'll have a couple options. Not sure what I'm going to do about the alcohol yet. I'm not going to have beer, even lc beer at this point so I'm thinking of 1 glass of wine (which will be hard enough) or taking some sort of clear alcohol like vodka. Looks like everyone is doing great, even getting back into walking and exercise. That's awesome. I'll be going out for a run this afternoon, hopefully 4 miles again.

Afternoon Campers,
Just checking in. Scale is moving and I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can get through the weekend unscathed. Going to be tough though. We're going camping, last time for the season. Going to be making some chili and possibly some chicken stew. Its getting down in the 30's @ night now so the fire will be roaring. Oh I got my copy of Good Calories Bad Calories and plan on getting into that this weekend. Adam I'm going to start a beginners plan from www.bodyweightculture.com figure it will help shake this up a bit and might get my metabolism (sp) going and start to burn some fat. Alex Rockies looked a little better last night. But, well you know. Ed Out Stay strong men

Harley checking in.
Been hard at it....as I mentioned in a earlier post, I am building a retaining wall, so I have taken a couple of afternoons off from work to keep it going. I haven't been excerciseing but I think I am getting quite a workout from the shovel and the 80 lb blocks. Keep working gents and have a great weekend. Harley Out! |

Just got home from a day of hiking in Utah. DW and I hiked two Slot Canyons. Had a blast. Combo of the two was 10 miles so I got some good exercise. Went to a new Nepal restaurant tonight. It was really good. I had Lamb Kabob or something, I really don’t know what it was but it sure tasted great. Ed- I really don’t want to talk about it!!!! Did the Rockies forget how to hit?????? AGGGGHHHHHH!!! Well, I’m beat tonight so I’ll check in later on. Great weekend everyone. Oh, yes, Go Rockies! PLEASE!!!!

Saturday
Morning all. Got to take a walk yesterday and I am planning to go to the gym today or tomorrow. I am up another entire pound on the scale today and the only thing I can think of was a late wing meal last night. Been on plan all week and exercising so I am not too alarmed by it
Have a great day |

Morning Campers,
Just a quicky, came home to feed the dog (nice thing about camping close to home). He's to big to bring with us and he shed's like crazy so it's nice to have a hair free zone. Anyway I got a quik workout in this morning. Basicly 3 set of crunches, push- ups and some dips. Hope to get a run in tommrrow morning weather permitting. If I can behave tonight watching the game I very well might get a loss for weigh in. Going to make some wings and a pot of Texas chili today so I'm keeping the food clean. Oh and I was going to start reading Good Calories Bad Calories last night but I lost my reading glasses last night. Found them this morning, well what was left of them in the fire pit. Apparently they fell out of my pocket when I was tending the fire. Whoops. Good thing they're the cheepy's you see everywhere for less than $10. Thats it for now. Later |

Hey guys,
Things are going well here. Might get in a round a golf today with a buddy who just decided he has to golf. Its oddly out of character for him, but whatever golf is fun. I haven't gone golfing in about a decade, so we'll see how it goes. Have a good one, |

Hey there guys,
A rare Saturday check in for me. I did ok last night during poker night, eating only legal stuff and kept the alcohol intake to only 2 small glasses of red wine. I'm up a tick this morning but I'm not too worried. Was able to go for a run yesterday evening before poker and will be going out again tomorrow, hopefully for around 5 miles or so. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. |

Yo, howzit going?
No one here - as it should be on a Sat. nite. Me? I'm getting ready to watch PennState take on Ohio in their yard. Tough job. We will see. Will flip over to Series on commercials. (Don't look Alex, it won't be pretty! Back away from the candy - it is poison!) That means you too, Shiner. lol Well, all that steak talk - I went out and got one, brought it home. Great dinner. Rarest I have ever dared to eat one...where the middle is still purple and not pink. Delicious. (wouldn't do that with burger, of course) Steak w/ onions and 'shrooms lil romaine tips w/ cuke, ranch opened the wine I had for a week - had about 8 oz. 1-oz. TJ's Almonds for dessert. (they are pretty sweet for being natural) Feeling pretty good. Have a good evening. -mack Oops, see Zam checking in ... Yo Zam !

Hello Men,
I see a lot of determination especially about making a plan for the holidays and that is great! I would like to just throw out there that if you haven't been tracking measurements along with your weight loss you might consider it. It is how your clothes fit and how you feel and like Alex says being healthy that should be the main focus and hopefully the scale follows! ![]() |

Hi Guys,
Had a great porterhouse last night accompanied by a wedge salad. Love the wedge salad. That thing MUST have been invented by a man. Had a couple glasses of red wine though. Also resisted popcorn when I went to the movies last night. Chugged my cold water during Bourne Ultimatum. If you haven't seen it, it is a great action flick. Have a good Sunday and lets hope the Rockies at least make this an interesting series. |

New guy here. I lost around 35 pounds from March to September doing low fat, but started going the wrong way as it got cooler. I can live on salads and meal replacement shakes when it's 85 out, but over the past month, I've had an appetite like a bear getting ready for winter. I was having a couple of major carbage attacks a week.
I haven't read Gary Taubes' book yet, but I read enough of the reviews to get me thinking that LC was the change I needed. Over the last couple of weeks, I've been letting grains, milk, and yogurt run out, and replacing them with low-carb staples. I'm already in the habit of writing down everything I've eaten during the day, and the calorie count. Two days ago, I started writing down the carbs as well. It was an eye-opener. Fruit is the biggest source of carbs in my diet right now, and I'm letting that run out. In the last two weeks, with these modest changes, I've lost six pounds. Hey, if it's "water weight", I'll take it. I definitely have less hunger between meals. Three changes I'll make this week: 1) Keep building the habit of recording carb counts. 2) Pack my lunch and snacks in the mini-cooler every night, so I won't have an excuse to go foraging at Carb Mart during the day. 3) Do seven weight exercises a day. I've got a book which starts with 14 basics, so that way I won't be doing the same ones twice in a row. I've got a set of dumbbells, I've just been avoiding weights because I don't want to admit to myself how out of shape I'm in. I've been walking 30-60 minutes a day, because it adds up in the "calories out" column. It's been hard to get psyched to do weights when the caloric expenditure counts for so much less than any kind of cardio. But from what I've read about Taubes' book, he says that accounting approach has been over-hyped. Editted to add: I've got the book "Protein Power". I read it a few years ago, but later was convinced by my doctor and the rest of the world that low-fat was the only way to go. But that, and lurking on this board, is my main source for info on how to LC. Last edited by Doug K : 10-28-2007 at 07:28 PM. Reason: adding info about what I know about low carb |

Hi Doug, welcome. I'm new to this board as well, but definitely not new to LC'ing.
Hope you find the way of eating that makes sense for you. One thing I love about low carb is that I don't have to count calories, just carbs. Of course I don't sit down and eat a package of bacon in one sitting, but I've never been good at counting calories. If you're really interested in the program that started it all, it might be a good idea to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) in addition to Gary Taubes' book. It was an article by Gary Taubes in the NY Times in 02 that sent me on my first research project and my first experience with low carb. Nothing makes me feel as good as eating this way, but unfortunately I stopped for several years. I look forward to hearing about your progress. Keep us posted on your ups and downs! |

sore. haven't felt that in awhile. you don't realize how quickly you lose fitness once you stop exercising. I played 2 on 2 volleyball yesterday for about 2 hours. Its taking its toll on me this morning, which is a good thing. I need more of it.
10/22 224 10/29 221 3 lbs i've lost before. Probably retaining water due to exercise, as i was 219 yesterday. keep plugging on. smoked up a 4lb turkey breast to have in the fridge. Sincei made my own, now fillers, phospates or sugars. Cole slaw is my new friend too. simple to make: bag of pre-shredded cabbage, mayo, cider vinegar, (liquid) splenda. I keep that on hand too to snack on. Finding alternatives to cheese and peanut butter which are 2 legal foods I OD on regularly. Doug K, welcome aboard, great group of guys here all struggling with the same temptations and problems.

10/29 284 Lost 6lbs which I am pretty happy with. Diet went well on week and stuck to my protein shakes. Saturday night started well, made a LC pizza then I got a bit off track at a Halloween party.. I drank but I made some Baja Bob LC Pina Colada with rum (4g carbs/drink) but as the night went on I played beer pong and had a couple jello shots. Good news is I skipped all the candy/snacks and just stuck to peanuts. Here was my costume: Welcome to the site Doug!

10/29 205 + .6 Exercise has been good but I have not been consistent in eating. Weird thing during the middle of the week - I was eating well and exercising but gaining. My plan is to strip my eating back down and reinduct over the next two weeks to see if I can reshape some of my habbits and eliminate the cravings of late. Have a great day everyone. |

Morning Guys,
10/22 – 196.6 10/29 – 198.0 +1.4 Right back to where I was two weeks ago. Stupid! Poor eating choices this weekend. It started so good too. Weak! Ok, back on plan. I make good progress during the week and then give it all back on Saturday and Sunday. I’ve got to stop doing that!! Well, the Rockies got beat. Congratulations Red Sox. They are a good team and totally owned that Series. I had a great hike on Friday of 9.7 miles through some awesome slot canyons. I’ll get some pictures posted when I can. It bums me out that I waste such good progress with two stupid days. Oh well, get back on plan. Good days everyone! Welcome Doug K. |
