Mid-Year Resolution Weight Loss Challenge (Sign up thread)

Why I created the Mid-Year Resolution

I don't know about you, but I have NEVER EVER made a New Year's Resolution that I've kept.

I decided that instead of waiting for the gloomy proposition of another December 31st wishing I had done something about my weight loss, I was going to spend that time looking back and being excited about what I had started.

Why not work towards something exciting and positive, and spend New Year's Eve celebrating a new you, rather than feeling guilt that you never made the effort to begin with?

So, I'm issuing a challenge for a Mid-Year Resolution to everyone who is interested.

What is your goal for the New Year?

Rules:
Give your goal in terms like this:

cleochatra: 30 pounds to lose/ 0 lost / 30 pounds to go!

Check in each Monday with your weigh-in (there will be a new thread each Sunday night posted).

If you are going by inches and not pounds, you can still join!

Let's see what we can do by New Year's!

No. But really. Why?

Imagine us being HAPPY on December 31st, instead of thinking, "I wish..." ..."I wish"...

We're doing something new and unconventional here ... we're shooting FOR a New Year's and not merely FROM a New Year's!

We're getting rid of the regrets and replacing them with success!

Just envision all of us, on New Year's, looking slimmer in those party hats!

Shoot for your dreams, ladies! If you exercise and stay true, stick with us, and get ready to boogie on New Year's Eve, how can you not make it?

The challenge starts on Sunday, July 15. That gives you a couple of weeks to commit yourself, get your head in the right place, and ask questions.

Time to celebrate a new you in the New Year. And it all starts now.

I set up a spreadsheet that I'll add people to (hopefully in alphabetical order) before the challenge starts.

You'll be able to chart your progress at that sheet!

Count me in. I would like to lose five pounds a month and celebrate New Year's Eve in something new, sparkly, slinky and unmatronly.

Jamie, I would love to check progress on the spreadsheet, but I am just barely above computer illiteracy. When I hit your link I got the Google spreadsheet home page. What do I do to get to your input?

I am really looking forward to this challenge. Thanks for starting it.

Sorry! Try the link again. Apparently now you have to 'publish' for a spreadsheet to go public. (They keep changing things on me)

Welcome aboard!

I went on to the spreadsheet. But I have a google account. It is free, so you may want to go ahead and sign up. If you need to be invited, just let me know.

I'm in - I hate to miss out on potential fun! Given the fact that I am a slow loser on a plan that encourages slow loss, my goal for year-end is modest but achievable:

Violet Skye: 26 pounds to lose/0 pounds lost/26 pounds to go

That'd make 39 pounds lost by the beginning of the New Year - Are those squeeworthy results, or what??????

Good morning! I am so glad you are all joining! We are going to have a great time!

I am going for a low number, because I can't stress about losing a thigh by Christmas! I am shooting for 30 pounds. If I make it, woohoo! If I don't, I know I love my way of eating and am solidifying what I'm doing for life. this is good for me.

I forgot-- you might need a google account to see the spreadsheet. If so, I am sorry about that! I keep thinking in all the changes they keep making (keeping me on my toes) they will also allow non-googlymooglies to read the spreadsheets *shakes fist at google*.

I am glad you don't mind waiting a couple of weeks! Of course, if you want to star now, that is fine! When we hit the first weigh-in, you can record the entire loss. Of course, if you want to wait, that is ok too!

I love you no matter what (in a purely socially acceptable way).

Something else I forgot to mention (smacks self in the head for remembering things later) is that I only want you to tell me losses for the week. There are some weeks there are gains, and that is ok! It happens naturally (especially when body water weight can easily fluctuate as much as 8 pounds in a single day).

So, if you have a gain for the week, I will just register a "0" on the spreadsheet. This way it shows you have checked in and are still accountable! Then, when you lose again, I will record that the following week (or whenever)...

One other thing.

You might say, "Cleochatra, why are we weighing in on Monday? Do you hate us?"

How could I hate you? You are adorable.

I say to you, one thing I found out through going to TOPS was that weighing in on Monday kept me honest on weekends! Weekends can be VERY difficult! This is a way to learn that a way of eating is for life and not for 5 days a week. Banks are for five days a week. We're not banks. We're cute people!

So, no bank deposits on weekends!

Oh! One more thing. I don't require you to list your actual weight for two reasons:

1. I was an English major in college. The more numbers, the more confused I am. I figured the income taxes last year and we owed $11,000 (I messed up the figures). When my hubby did them, they owed us $4,000. I am better with less (smaller) numbers. And not doing taxes. This is also why I keep a spreadsheet. I can't mess up numbers I don't have to figure! (thank you, google!)

2. For people who are shy and don't want to give weight, this is a low-threat challenge. No one has to know your weight to participate. It is the goal that matters.

I want to change my numbers. 60 is a lot to lose in just a few months time. If I don't make that number, I know I'll be very disappointed in myself, instead of being overjoyed at at simply losing as much as I can. So, my new numbers are:

40 pounds to lose/0 lost/40 pounds to lose

Now if you end up losing 60 you can jump for joy twice!!

I tried to make my goals more reasonable for myself this time around. I think 10 Lbs a month is pretty reasonable for me. At least until I get down more towards goal. At least I hope it is reasonable!

Wow, Jamie!

What a great idea. I can't wait for 12/31 and to be able to look back at my successes instead of dreading resolution failures.

I've been staying off the scale because I want this to be mostly about health with weight loss as an added benefit, but if I try to incorporate the LGI aspect of LCing, I know that I'll need to start tracking my weight again.

Great idea.

Okay, here it is:

Annie: 30 pounds to lose/ 0 lost / 30 pounds to go!

Thanks, Jamie.
