Hi Patty!!!!! Whatcha been doin? Please fill us in when you get a chance.

Back in the day is when we all filled up on veggies if we needed more food. I'll never forget my first week. I felt like I was eating tons more food than I usually did and I told DH that I was going to show them, I'd eat everything they told me too and they'd just see that it wouldn't work for me. Lo and behold, the first week I lost 4 pounds and I was hooked. I lost every single week until I actually got 8 pounds below goal and didn't cheat even one time. Wow, how things have changed!! I don't think I could be that regimented at this point in my life and I know I couldn't go that long without cheating. And this was the plan before the exchanges. The late 60s-early 70s one where we had to eat fish 5x a day and liver 1x a week. And beef only 3x a week. Only 4 eggs a week and never at night! It actually was a pretty complicated detailed plan but I knew it frontwards and backwards and it DID work!! And the meetings were $2 a week!!

Ok, I'm gettting off Memory Lane now. But it was a nice visit.

It was probably after you'd been on it a while and you probably used low cal bread, ya think? I know I loved my starches back then and I had all kinds of ways to get them in there.

What plan had "floaters". When oldest DGS was little DH and I were doing that plan (mid 80s) and he thought GrapeNuts were called floaters b/c DH would have them every night for a snack and tell me he was having his floaters, . It was so cute. I miss that little guy. He's now over 6' tall and almost 22!!

Sandy - that's when I was very successful with WW - it was 1990 as it was after 1989, because that's when DD17 was born......

Yes, I think they changed to the Smart Start plan right after the one I was on. I justed busted out all my stuff. It looks like I have three different programs. The old one - circa 1989 - was called "The Quick Success Program." By week 5 you have 2-3 fruits, 3 veggies, 3 fats, 5-6 proteins, 3 breads, 2 milks and - here's one for you Sandy - the floater is introduced. That's it.

The other plan is called 123 Success (circa 1997) and it's where the points were first introduced, I think. That was the one with the point ranges and you could really get a bang for your fiber buck by counting all the fiber in something instead of just 4 grams. I believe it is this plan that came with a handy dandy gray notebook with pockets and a velcro tab.

I also have a cookbook from sometime in between then.

Interesting how it's evolved.

All this talk about the old programs almost makes me want to do one of them again. But which one to choose, there are so many to choose from, lol. Do you remember the "Fat or Fiber" plan? That one was a total bust!! If I remember right you could either eat 20 g. of fat a day having what you choose, following the Healthy GLs of course or 20 g. of fiber choosing what fibrous foods you wanted to eat. I think that's about the time Bagel & Bagel came out with the whole grain bagel and everybody would get one on the way to the meeting and sit and eat it after they weighed in. And then wonder why they didn't lose any weight! Those bagels were huge!!! (but they were sure yummy) I think that was the shortest lived version of them all and it's not hard to see why.

Well... I took Adam to the vet today and it turns out that he doesn't have a broken toe, he has a tumor on the toe next to the nail and where I thought that it was broke, turns out that he's trying to amputate it himself. He showed me where he's been chewing at it. We have 2 options, sedation with surgical amputation or wait and see what he does himself. The only thing is when he breaks through the toe, if it doesn't clot naturally, he could bleed to death. So, hopefully, if that happens, I am home when it does. He said maybe have the bird light on in the morning and evening and turn it off while I'm gone, that way maybe he'll nap since it will be dark. I asked him what he would do if it was his bird (he made a face like "that's a tough one") and said, "I am a little hesitant to put him under anthestetic due to his age (he's somewhere between 22-23, maybe older, since he was a wild-caught import, there's no way of knowing) because he may or may not come out of it. If I was my bird, I would just take him home and observe him, give him all the love that you can give him the rest of his days and hope that he nibbles it slowly so that it has an easier chance of clotting as he nibbles." So, I am going to take his suggestion, that's why I took Adam to him because I trust him. The seizures that he had in the fall he thinks may be possibly due to a brain tumor, he said he especially leans towards that idea due to the fact that he has a tumor on his toe now. He also could just have a seizure and not come out of it. AHHH, the joys of having a geriatric bird. I do feel blessed that I've had him for as long as I have, Dr. Brown said that he probably wouldn't have made it to this age if he was still in the wild, he said something probably would have caught him or he would have fell victim to the weather and elements in Argentina. So, I guess that I have given him a better life than he would have had in his home land. The only thing is.... I felt as old as Adam did when we left, we both kind of pouted together on the way home. I was only 30 when I got him and I turned 50 in October, and now he's old. Where did the time go for us????

LOL - I notice the Smart Start plan gives you 4-6 breads and 3-5 proteins. Looking at that, I have to say, that's probably where a lot of people here at LCF get the idea that all we eat are carbs. That's sure a lot of bread for the day. They count TWO slices of low calorie bread as one exchange - that's 12 slices of bread a day! And you know there were women out there eating all 12 slices. And only 3-5 ounces of meat a day? Geeze, I have more than that in one sitting. I also note that you can have 700 additional calories per week, not a day as I originally thought.

Berta - you are an exercising inspiration. Keep it up.

I, too, wonder about Adam today.

Lou

I think it's all being corrupted now Cindy with all the groups trying to see if they can vote him to stay just b/c he's so bad. I really wish that wasn't happening to this show. It really skews the end results and I bet they end up cancelling the series if it keeps up. Oh well, maybe Ted Mac Amateur Hour will start up again, lol.

Have a fun trip Berta. Try to stay strong while you're gone.

Yep, Lou, that must be where that high carb rumor came from. I did do that program but I honestly don't remember having that much bread. But knowing me and my deep Irish streak I probably had my starches in the form of 'taters instead. They used to be my favorite food.

Good morning friends.

AI Chris hadnt done that well the past few weeks but he can really sing. I would have like Hailey or the other guy to go instead, and Sanjaya

Funny, reading about all the other WW programs brings back a lot of memories, I did them too. It was really strict back then, I also did the one with 6 breads and even back then I thought it was too much bread. That is the only thing about WW that I dont like (for me anyways), too many carbs allowed and too little meat. I dont think 5-6 oz of protein is enough, I am no expert but I think we will lose weight but also muscle mass. There is a lot of junk food that one can have and still stay within the points. I think the older program was more structured.

Morning!!!

Glad I am not the only one upset about Chris Sligh - and Sandy you are right....and it's sad this is happening!

Back before kids when I was working on losing that fifteen pounds I gained after getting married; it was the program with liver once a week!!! I remember that! Then I gained a few back and went back to the program with three breads a day.....that time I got down to 105! Then it was the program with 6 breads after I had kids! So yep; done alot of them too!

Busy day at work; then workout and then dinner with a friend.....

Hope you all have a great day; will peek in later, if I can.....

Good morning friends!!
I was very happy on the scale this morning. I'm back below goal by .5 to 139.5! And just in time for my bad weekend coming up so at least I have my cushion to depend on.

I think the old programs are wonderful especially if you're having trouble staying on plan. Because of the structure of them I think people stay more focused on what they're doing. There's not as much wiggle room to do whatever you want so people tend to not cheat as much. Plus it makes you plan a little better. All reasons people don't like them and the same reasons why they do like them. And one thing is certain; they worked. I thought I still had a sheet made up on my computer with all the little boxes you used to check off as you'd eat the required foods but I guess I lost it in the crash last year. It wouldn't be hard to make up one though. I really did like checking off those boxes, lol.

Checking in ladies!

A Patty sighting!

I guess Jenn is doing her civil duty????

All this talk of old programs reminds me of the program I followed when I was a teen. My highest weight was about 200 lbs. when I was 13. I had a good friend who was also overweight, and she started following a plan called Diet Control. She went to the meetings, I didn't. But it was similar to WW with all the exchanges. I lost about 75 lbs. on that program, and mainted my weight for many years. Good luck to all who are going to follow the exchange program. I'll be eager to hear your results!

Berta - have a safe trip

Althoug Chris Sligh did not have a good night on Tuesday, he definitely deserved to stay over Sanjaya & Hailey....

OK, I don't remember which one is Chris - the bald one or the big guy with the fuzzy hair?

My neighbor came knocking on my door at 6:30 am She got a new puppy, which is in the house, probably staring out through the sliding glass door at the older dog, who is outside and barking like a maniac...should make for a LOVELY teleconference this morning. She gave me the key to her house so I could bring the little guy over here in case the big guy's barking gets to me too much. I already have a headache.

for Adam. Chewing off his own toe? I guess if that's the way they do it.....

Yup, the old program didn't really leave much to the imagination - they built the menu for you, which is the structure I need right now. And I will be making my Pumpkin Muffins O'Plenty. I just love the corny names they gave recipes back then.

I was thinking about how long ago that was too. 1989. I was 29. I wasn't fat when I was 29. Why the heck was I doing WW?

Patiently awaiting the time for my teleconference.....

Lou

The dog finally shut up.

Hi all,
I've had a crazy day. I actually slept in a tiny bit then after breakfast decided to go get my hair cut. After I got there my roots looked so bad under their lighting (I'm sure they have special lights for that very thing, lol) I asked him if he could retouch me too. So that added time to that. Then I went by the mall to check on a pair of shoes I've been wanting. When I left there it was raining so I turned on my wipers and the driver's side one flew clear over to the driver's side and flipped off the windshield!! Freaked me out!! Plus I couldn't see! I felt my way home, lol, called the mechanic, they said it was probably a loose nut (yeah me, lol) so I was able to get the hood raised checked the nut, seemed tight to me so I thought great, I'm going to have to take it in, grrrrr. It quit raining so I chanced it and took it in. It was a loose nut (me again) they tightened in less than a minute with a special tool, didn't charge me anything and off I went. I stopped by another mall to find those shoes I was looking for. They didn't have them either but I found 2 other pairs at a store that's going out of business. It was only $4.34 for both pairs!!! My bargain of the year so far I think. So now I'm pooped out and I still have to fix dinner and I should do some laundry but I'm not.

Have a great evening. It's Survivor night!!

AWWWWW I AM SO SORRY. I SURE HOPE THT IT GOES OKAY FOR ADAM. I KNOW IT MUST BREAK YOUR HEART HAVING HIM THAT LONG. DOES HE TALK ANY??

All this talk of old programs reminds me of the program I followed when I was a teen. My highest weight was about 200 lbs. when I was 13. I had a good friend who was also overweight, and she started following a plan called Diet Control. She went to the meetings, I didn't. But it was similar to WW with all the exchanges. I lost about 75 lbs. on that program, and mainted my weight for many years. Good luck to all who are going to follow the exchange program. I'll be eager to hear your results!

Hi Beth!!! How are you doing? I'm so glad you're still hanging in there. And DH is still doing it with you right? That makes it a little easier at least. Pop in whenever you can, we'll always save your spot.

I think my granddaughter is planning a trip to Chicago this summer with a bunch of friends. They're looking into riding the train and staying down off Michigan Ave. somewhere. I wish they'd take me with them. I could be their chaperone, lol. I'm sure they'd love that!! A bunch of 18-20 year olds!! But I'll worry about her because she'll think she's the expert since I took her there a couple of years ago for spring break. I think her most vivid memory of the whole trip was how there is a Starbucks on every corner. Sometimes even 2 to a block. We enjoyed alot of coffee while we were there.

You take care and keep on keeping on. You're doing great!!

Sandy
