The NoMoYoYo Challenge Thread!

2/18/07

This Challenge/Support Thread is for anyone who has lost, gained, and tried to lose weight again.

Yo-Yo dieters see their weight go down and up and down and up again, hence the name NoMoYoYo (no more yo-yo dieting!) Props to Jenna for coining our name!

We want to offer support to help us all get off the dieting rollercoaster.

Rule #1: Post here AT LEAST once a week, whether you're on plan or not.
We can't help you if we don't have contact with you.

I'm not sure how many "rules" we need, but suggest them if you think we need to consider them.

Okay, so here is what I have done in advance to encourage me to keep on track:

slow-baked, sliced, and stored a rump roast

boiled 2 dozen eggs

pre-washed and chopped three heads of lettuce (romaine and iceberg). These are in the fridge in a gigantor Jethro bowl with a 1 cup measuring cup in it for easy portioning

Browned 2 lbs of ground beef

washed and cut 2 lbs of fresh green beans

shredded and bagged a head of cabbage

I also packed my lunch for tomorrow, so I can grab and run.

Hello everyone!

Thanks Randy! Although I'd like to take 100% credit for the name, I saw this name on another board a long time ago and it kinda stuck with me.

Although I've YoYo'd over the years and spent this past year trying different diets and eating styles, low carb is my old tried and true and I'm back. This time it's not just a new/old diet for me but a new life style. It comes down to choices and I'm choosing not to Yo-Yo-No-Mo !

I am excited about this challenge. I am so tired of not being able to stick to plan. I know ALOT of mine is STRESS!! My eating plan for today is:

B: 2 boiled eggs
L: 1/2 cup ff cottage cheese
D: 1 cup meat mix

And 120 oz. water. I am trying stillman's to see if that will be easier for me.

A bit about myself. I am married to a great guy who is doing stillman's with me I have 2 kids. 1 girl and 1 boy. I have been overweight since the birth of my last child (gulp, 8 yrs. ago). I feel ugly, look ugly, and have no self confidence at all. My self esteem is completely gone. This year I am going to work on that. We are going to be joining the Y sometime in the near future, so I am really looking forward to that so for right now I am not getting in any exercise.
I am looking forward to getting to know each one of you

Hi everyone! I am restarting (again). Started putting everything I eat and amount of exercise daily into Fitday. Also reading the book "Living the low carb life" by Bowden, which is a really good book for inspiration. In fact it scares me, what carbs can do to your metabolism, causing all kinds of illnesses like diabetes.

Good luck everyone!

I am excited about this challenge also because I feel ugly and look ugly. My eating plan is basically "lean and green". I am eating all of the non starchy vegetables that I want. No wheat or corn and two servings of dairy a day plus fish and beef to satisfaction.

I'm in.

About a year before I met my DH (7 years ago), I lost about 60 lbs. and kept most of it off until about two years into our marriage (3 years ago). Now its all back. I cannot seem to stick to plan more than a couple of weeks at a time before a special occassion or something comes up to interupt me. I am a very slow loser and have to be super-strict to see any results...in other words, I get discouraged quite easily.

My plan for now is M/E during the week and '72 Atkins on the weekends. I did this awhile back and saw some success.

Good morning everyone!

I am a 20 year yo-yo'er! I am 36, married and have three boys 12, 10 and 6. I am sick of being overweight and unhealthy. I was doing really good for a couple of weeks and just yesterday lost it and had a piece of cake.

BUT, today is a new day.

My goals are to:
1.stay on plan
2.drink my water
3.post here

WE can do this!!!!

Beth: I am a VERY slow loser too! I have done low carb w/o cheats for 3 weeks and haven't lost a pound! (and I wonder why I go off plan!) I've done atkins before though and have lost about 20 pounds in six months so I know it's possible and not gaining is better than gaining so I'll take it. Plus I feel better on low carb.

Good morning everyone! Good to be here and have an entirely new support system to help get one another back on course to stay!

Aim in Fla -- That is just what I have to work on myself. I join challenges like this but don't always follow through. So guess you could say I'm for Nomoyoyo'ing in these challenges!

Beth -- Yes, I have to be super strict (as have been)as well in order to see results or I too am quickly discouraged.

My main goals for getting off this rollercoaster:
*Stay faithful to my chosen WOE which is combo Stillman's (K/E) and Kimkins. Although what I have been doing lately to get back on track is more M/E than Kimkins.
*Shooting for NO eating after 6:30 pm.
*At least 2 weeks to get myself back into "the zone", ketosis and complete detox from all my trigger foods, then...
*I've decided if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em: Instead of viewing nuts, pb, and cheese as entirely off limits and taboo I will allow them ONLY on set days at set times. I've chosen Saturday. I pick a favorite. Only one serving. The rest of the time I will breathe, pray, meditate, whatever it takes! I feel that maybe they won't be such a fixation in my mind if I stop telling myself never, never, never.

I'm just starting off Week 7 on the Couch to 5K Program so 3 days a week that is my regular fitness routine. 1-2 days a week I hop on my bike for a little extra ammunition.
I plan to add in 3 days a week light handweights to help with the toning.

Hope you all get a great start to the new week. Have a nice day.

OK - I have to be in I have been doing this for over three years. I lost most of the weight the first year and while I haven't regained the weight, I can never get to goal. Every holiday leads to a three to four day cheat which takes at least a month to recover. I do consider this a way of life but I am really anxious to be done with the "losing" mode and move on to maintenance. My goal for this challenge will be simple. Stay.On. Plan.

Good morning NoMoYoYoers! Thanks Randy for starting this thread up! I thought I would write out my plan-helps me stick to it more!

1-no wine (yes, this is first on my list!) None for the Lenten season and then gradually adding some back in probably only on weekends.

2-stay on the LC wagon. Don't let a small cheat send me into a tailspin (thus the reason I am a yoyoer).

3-exercise. I will try to incorporate some little bit every day.

4-come here to support other yoyoers at least twice a week

That's it for now. I am not going to go off the deep end with too many expectations of myself because then I give up. If I can stick to these 4 expectations I will be successful

Great luck to everyone! BTW-how do you put a quote in your reply? I try to highlight just a portion of a post to quote, but the entire post shows up? How do you get just the part you want in the quote? TIA

In the bottom right corner of the post you want to quote, click on the quote button. A box will pop up with the ENTIRE post in quote format. If you only want to quote part of it, delete what you don't want. Just make sure you leave the bracketed Quote and /Quote in there.

Good morning!

Im up bright and early while everyone else is sleeping, so I thought it would be a good time to post my YoYo Story.

I was an overweight child and that continued into my young adulthood when I discovered Atkins '72 when I was 21. I read the book and it was my first ever diet and wow! I lost 60 pounds in about 8 months. I then kept it off through careful attention to my eating through my late 20's/early 30's which included getting married and having my son. Looking back in that time period I see 10 years of goal weight! Then in 88 my marriage began to suffer and I gained 30 pounds over about a year. I became involved in some of my more addictive behaviors including shopping, carrying on with an old boyfriend etc. I think I might have tried to lose weight here and there but it never stuck. Not sure how it happened, but in 1996 I reached my all time high of 230 and then decided I needed to get back on the wagon so I did with Atkins again and
over a 2 year period lost all the weight again. Goal! Kept if off until 2002
when another series of family events took place (suffice it to say I learned that my sister was my mother, then she and my grandmother who raised me died) which led me to make a huge lifestyle change. I broke up with my then boyfriend (I had divorced after 18 years of marriage in 98), bought a house, lived by myself and starting drinking. I have never had an alcohol problem, ever, but found me and a couple glasses of wine each night good companions in my emotional pain. I then gained 40 pounds over a few years. YoYo-YoYo.

Forward to now....I now am remarried, happy, have a great life. The emotional trauma is behind me and I have recovered. My husband is a martial artist and at 59 is training for his 3rd degree black belt and also retired when we got married on 1-1-05. I love my work. My son, who is a recovering drug addict, is clean and sober for 2 years!

So this is my work- to be able to lose the rest of my weight which I am confident I will do, and then to keep it off even when emotional issues occur which they will! I have had a long history of maintenance, so I know I can do it. But I also know that unless I focus every day once I reach goal, that the weight can and will come back on. And that's what I need to avoid.

Thanks for listening! And thanks for the challenge Randy~

I have been a yo yo dieter ever since I joined many years ago. I was doing very good until last week when we had lots of snow and below zero weather I live near Ohare in Illinois. Right now I have 12"inches of snow in the yard.
I shoveled a little to make a path for the dog but can't do more than that.
Its getting warmer today and in a day or two I should be able to get rid of more snow. I have plenty of legal
food In the house and going to make an order today for some thinks form Netricion.

I baked 3 chicken legs Sunday and have 2 left and lots of salad mix and frozen veggies.

Today I will eat

B sponge bob bread.
L pumpkin soup I had in freezer
D Chick
