Big Yapper!!!!
|
I remember a guy back in the '70's who had a concept about weight loss. He said if you eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and supper like a pauper, you will lose weight. It's difficult for me to do that with my schedule, but perhaps I need to find a way.
that is a great philosophy! Ever since I started eating dinner I have gained.... i am not eating dinner tonight if I am not hungry. Period. |

Hi NOMOYOYOers. I meant to join this thread last week!
I've dieted since I was 8 years old - seriously! As I've gotten older my fluctuations have gotten bigger and bigger. You'd think I'd learn!! My goals are to eat as many whole healthy foods as I possible can. Coconut oil once or twice a day. Limit alcohol cause it makes me eat more. Log my food EVERY day. I bought Fitday PC after using it online for years and it's cool. Really helps me stay on track. My plan is 60% Fat, 25% Protein, 15% carb (net). I'm counting calories by the WEEK instead of daily, which is better for me cause my appetite varies a lot. I'm aiming for between 8 and 9,000 per week. (Please refrain from telling me that's not enough!!) I weight train twice a week for an hour. NO cardio and I'm not planning on starting. Just don't want to. This is day 3 for me. I gave away my remaining Valentines candy. I tried telling myself how insulin is the "aging" hormone (it really is!) but I still ate the dang chocolates last week. I'm taking a week off from ALL of my supplements this week too. And for some reason I feel better. I've read that it's good to take breaks from them and in my case it must be. Getting there has never been my problem - STAYING there is just hard!! |

Hmmm....I wish I hated to eat...and to cook...I LOVE both!
I, too, do better when I do not eat dinner or eat really early. I used to think that I got hungrier if I ate b'fast. I've since realized that is only if I eat something small. If I eat a good, large b'fast, I tend to stay better satisfied all day long. |

I agree, I feel more satisfied during the day if I have started with a nice breakfast, and of course, my coffee. If I skip breakfast, I tend to want to eat more in the afternoon, by far my weakest point during the day.

WHY YO-YO IS A NO-NO.
We're here for positive support, but this week's YOYOINFO is all about the negatives of "weight cycling." BTW, I don't like that term, it sounds like a good thing.
Below is an excerpt FROM THIS ARTICLE. One personal note: I believe that yo-yo'ing screwed with my HDL, which was very low until I got back on plan and started regular exercise. What are the health concerns of weight cycling? No matter what your size, any sudden weight gain or loss may be hard on your health. The main health concerns regarding weight cycling are:- 1. The amount of fat stored in the body increases with each cycle of up and down dieting. When a person loses weight, both fat and muscle tissues are shed. When the weight is put back, it tends to be made up of a greater proportion of fat and less muscle, leaving the person "fatter" than ever. Besides, a history of loss and gain is associated with greater amounts of fat stored in the abdomen, a pattern of fat distribution linked to greater risk of heart disease and diabetes. 2. Yo-yo dieting has a definite effect on food preferences, increasing the craving for fat. Fat is the most concentrated source of calories in the diet, and the body appears to store calories from fat more easily than surplus calories from carbohydrates or protein. 3. Long-term crash dieting can result in serious nutritional deficiencies, as a result of eating a poor variety of foods. 4. Repeated cycles of loss and gain take a psychological toll. Many dieters perceive each unsuccessful attempt to keep weight off as a personal failure. The result, over time, is erosion of self-esteem coupled with depression and even guilt. 5. People who repeatedly lose and regain weight are weakening their immune systems. 6. Fluctuations in weight also seem to increase the risk of gallstones. 7. Repeated dieting drives the "natural weight range" higher for some people. |

Randy - Great Article!!
I'd like to join! I easily lost from 160 to 145 and then.....yoyo from 137 to 145! UGH! It's time to get rid of this once and for all, eat healthy and get stronger! I'm currently transitioning to Eat To live, more veggies, less protein, fruits and grains - all natural. Not bad and filling! What a great support team here - it will be hard to mess up with everyone here!!! |

Ok, I'm "armed" and ready to stay on plan today. Had scotch eggs for bkfst (that's just a boiled egg wrapped & cooked in sausage) and have lunch in the oven right now--a couple of chicken breasts, one for now and will dice the other to keep in the fridge to snack on later. I'll try to keep it simple for dinner, like scrambled eggs or something.
It's good now that I've got some more tips from you guys on "regularity". I've known of the saltwater flush but have just been too chicken to try it. I hate feeling nauseous and that's the part I'm more scared of than anything. For any of you who have done it, you haven't actually gone beyond the nausea part have you? If not, maybe then I'll be brave and try it sometime. Randy -- Thanks for clearing us up on the magnesium products. I was wondering which one I should try first if need be, the citrate or the oxide. May start with the citrate. Will see. ![]() Bella -- I agree with you, that is the thing about the Atkins '72 I find preferable to the modern one, which I believe was rewritten to be more commercial and less controversial. Of course LC would attract more people with the added allowance of Frankenfoods and specialty products. Wouldn't it be nice if we could lose with all that stuff, right? ![]() Dharma -- Thanks for joining us! You're never too late. I like using Coconut Oil too, especially good to fry a pork chop in. ![]() Laura and Terry-- I'm not the best at planning either. I always think as long as I am keeping my options simple then I shouldn't have to worry...but if I don't prepare the stuff ahead of time I end up snacking and nibbling while I am waiting for whatever to get done! ![]() ...On the topic of the Reverse Diet concept, I would have a tough time with that too, although it sounds sensible enough. I'm never that hungry in the mornings and then the evenings are my hardest times ever. For me, sometimes it's easier at that time of day to not eat even when I am a little hungry because then I tend to keep eating even when I'm stuffed and miserable. ![]() Last edited by FaithM. : 02-20-2007 at 01:14 PM. |

I was supposed to have had a colonoscopy done this past November but kept putting it off. I wasn't really sure if I liked the new Gastro specialist I was referred to. That along with excuses well, needless to say it didn't get done. I know it isn't safe to take chances with our health like that. I must admit the stuff I was told I'd have to take to clean me out made me uncomfortable. Again...the nausea thing! Sheesh! Am I not afraid of enough crap? ![]() |

LOL.... talk about 'flushes'. Has anyone else done a Liver Flush? My nutritionist recommended it for hubby. Armed with Epson Salts, Oil and Grapefruit Juice (to make the oil drinkable). Of course this was after drinking apple cider and ginger for a week to soften the 'stones'. Of course we started it on Friday night and well... lets just say we couldn't leave the house until Sunday afternoon.
Ahhhhh... the things one will share with a spouse.Oh... and this has nothing to do with losing weight. Last edited by jenna... : 02-20-2007 at 02:10 PM. |

Thanks for the warning! What they were going to give me I think was like a different kind of liquid I had to swallow at different intervals. The warning was that nausea and vomiting could occur but I'm sure that's just a standard CYA thing they're required to give. ![]() Last edited by FaithM. : 02-20-2007 at 02:17 PM. |

This was a problem for me too. It took about a week to get used to it. When I started I would have to make myself eat something in the morning. Then I wouldn't be so hungry at night and eating a small meal was easy. After my body got used to eating a small meal I started waking up hungry. I'm not trying to change anyones mind, I just wanted to let you know what my experience was.
