Happy June everyone!
Nady I haven't seen you posting lately, how are you? Gavinsmom, I think waiting til the end of the 10 days is a great idea! I know I couldn't do it but, hehe. Good luck! You're doing great! Hoops I had pizza this weekend and if I didn't throw the other half of it away, I would have eaten it too! SJN, take care of your foot first. Do you have plans to see a doctor? Faith I drink coffee/cream in the morning and have a Fuze for dinner and drink Crystal Light at night. If I needed something else, I would have broth, so don't feel bad! I'm down 7 pounds since Monday doing this. Phibi thanks for all of the info you post! I'm learning so much. Welcome to all of the newcomers! I'm pretty new to this myself and these wonderful ladies have been very informative and great support! Day 3 for me! This is the longest I've ever gone without eating and although last night I had to go upstairs at 8:00 and watch tv in bedroom just to make sure I didn't eat, the scale shows 178 today so it's been well worth it. I took a hot bubble bath (just read that I shouldn't have, heh) put a clay mask on my face, pampered myself a bit and had a good night's sleep. I'm sipping my coffee and wondering if I can make it through another day. As I said yesterday, I know I can make it till dinner! Have a great day ladies! Breathe, and know that you are good. ![]() Last edited by LoCarbGamer; 06-01-2006 at 04:41 AM.. |

At last I'm over the first fast day hurdle
and I lost 4 lbs this morning!! I wasted NO time in changing my sig, lol! That was the water weight I'd put on over Memorial weekend and now I'm only 1 lb over what I was last week. I got in 144 oz for the day. Started my morning with a mug of Suisse Mocha sugar free/caff free, a bit brave maybe for the morning after but I'm aiming to keep everything low today anyway. I just hope I don't go and put any of that water weight back on ![]() Hoops--I hope you're feeling better soon. Pizza is a killer for me, it would've been double hard for me to avoid yesterday if I'd had some of that in my fridge! Takeelah--thanks! Think that's the way I'm gonna go. Try to stick to mostly water but allow myself some CL & an occasion coffee (see above ) I'll keep the broth in mind too, I've got some in the pantry if I need it You are doing terrific! 7 lbs is awesome! It's nice to meet you, Nady! I'm sorry you had a rough month but now is a new one and we all get to start over with a clean slate! ![]() |

Thanks Hoops for those suggestions! I think I WILL stick a toothbrush in my bag tonight and brush when I take bathroom breaks!
Today is my offical day 1! I feel very excited, but not in a naive way. I know from experience how day 3-4 feels (although I've never made it past day 4!). I also know that *every* time I've fasted a few days and have stopped, it was for some sort of *emotional* reason---a fight with my husband, kids driving me crazy, hating my job, etc. This time I'm going handle these situations differently. They WILL come up, to be sure! I am not fasting for cleansing reasons, but mainly for weightloss. I know, my reason doesn't sound as noble or altruistic! So I will be having a few cups of coffee w/cream in the mornings as usual and a couple of diet sodas as needed through the day. I will have soda plain water w/lemon during my 5 hour shift at work though. Mostly for my breath and for my health. Also (and this is *just* my experience and opinion!) I do better with 1 multivitamin, 1 vit.c pill, and 1 pottasium/magnisium combo RIGHT before bed (so I won't get sick taking it on an empty stomach!). I seem to have much more energy doing this. Day 1 starting weight....141 Shae ![]() |

Good morning ladies. Can I join you? Today is my first day waterfasting. I really dont like water so its funny that this if the fast that I chose. But I plan to get in at least 128oz water today, no matter what. I'm off today so have been working in the yard this a.m. and have bought movies to watch, going to the pool later, just keeping myself busy so I dont think about eating.
I couldnt find the Senna tea that Phibi told me about so instead bought some Phillips Milk of Magnesia and will be taking it tonight. Well good luck ladies. I'll check in later. P.S. Why cant you take a bubble bath while fasting?

Good luck to you Shae! I wish I felt strong enough to go for 3 or 4 days so my hat's off to ya! Maybe one day soon I'll be able to work up to it.
SlimWithin26--I'm new to this thread too but I don't think the others will mind my saying to please hop aboard! I'm giving QOD a shot and I survived my first "on" day yesterday and I'm eating today Keeping busy is the best thing you can do. I tried yesterday but I was too doggone tired to be busy, LOL! btw, I haven't looked for the Senna tea but I've already got some Milk of Magnesia in the cupboard so I'm just going to use that. My only suggestion would be to make sure to start off with 1/4 or 1/2 dose. I took 3/4 last week and it was way too much for starting off! ![]() |

I was told by the others that straight water is preferable but mostly if you're looking to detoxify. If you're doing it mostly for weightloss (like I am) then you're okay with 0 cal drinks and chicken broth as well. There is a great 0 cal Diet Green Tea made by "Arizona" that I like to drink. Pretty easy to find, I get mine at our local grocery store.

Today is day 3 for me and it's going well. Days 1 & 2 were definitely harder. I never thought I could go this long without eating. I think I will stay with this until dinner time tomorrow, when my hubby takes me out before he goes to the UK on business. I was thinking that I might try a three day fast every week. I wold eat low carb/low calorie the other days and maybe have Saturday as a "regular food" day. What do you more experienced fasters think? Am I setting myself up for heartache? |

I quote these from Fasting Can Save Your Life by Herbert M. Shelton.
Hot Baths and Showers. "There is the same need for cleanliness while fasting as while eating. Bathing should be performed daily or as often as needed. The bath should be of a character to cause the least amount of energy expenditure. To insure this the following requirements should be observed: a. The bath should be of short duration. The faster should not remain long under the shower or in the tub. The common practice of soaking for long periods in water is enervating and should be avoided. b. Bath water should be lukewarm, neither hot nor cold. It requires considerable energy expenditure to resist both heat and cold. The closer the temperature of the bath water is to the temperature of the body, the less energy expenditure will be occasioned. Bear in mind, always, that bathing is for cleanliness and not for any alleged therapeutic effects. Bathe quickly and get out of the water." Purges...BM's "There is nothing that so safely and so certainly that increases the kidney action as the fast itself. The bowels empty themselves during a fast as often as there is a need for them to do so. If no need arises, then they take a long-needed rest." Water...What kind? How much? What temp? "A soft spring water, rain wate, distilled water, filtered water or any type that is free from impurities is acceptable." "It should be taken only as thirst demands. There is nothing to be gained by drinking large quantities of water, despite a lack of demand for this, on the theory that this flushes the system." "Cool water is excellent, but very cold or ice water may slow down and retard recovery. In some cases hot water may be sipped in moderation with the advice or permission of the supervisor; in others its use is inadvisable."

SlimWithin~ Sorry
I was busy looking up the bathing stuff in the book for you. Oh, I am not good at keeping all the weight off, although eating raw following a fast is easier on the body and I start losing weight again after a few days. I only did this once, and it worked well.I am on my way out the door to an awards ceremony for the students at my school. I don't want to go at all. ![]() |

Was feeling pretty good today, still a little tired...when can I expect to get that energy rush? On my non-fasting days I'm doing the usual low cal/low carb. I'm satisfied that I managed to keep everything low today. Also, just wondering if it's typical to put on a lb or so from your "off" days and if I should maybe be prepared for that in the morning?
Takeelah--I'm so proud of you making it thru day 3! Perhaps when I get more accustomed to this I'll go for broke and give it a shot ![]() Hoops--Thank you for the extra info. Very helpful and all things I never would've thought of! SlimWithin--How's it been going for you today? Makeup-- from one of the newbs! ![]() |

First day is just about over, thank goodness. I fought w/ myself most of the day. This is really an experience to say the least. Good learning experience though to really listen to your body and to find out your true tolerance and willpower.
Hoops...I was just playing. I am really glad that you took the time to search for an answer to my question. I truly appreciate it. You are very helpful...all of you and I truly appreciate it. A fellow lowcarb poster on another thread told me that 4 days was not enough time to see any good weight loss results. The poster has been around the board alot longer than I have, so they may very well be correct on that, but even if that is so...I am really learning alot about myself from this experience...and that in itself is quite the reward. Well goodnight all. Will check back in the a.m. |

I am learning that hunger is all in my head 90% of the time. My body hasn't really been hungry, it's my brain. I still view food as a treat. I think changing my views on food through fasting is probably more important than the weight loss. Hang in there girls. P.S. Faith I got a rush of energy the first day I tried fasting and had one on day 2 this time. Day 3 I was kinda tired. I think everyone is different though. Takeelah, 8lbs in 3 days is FANTASTIC!!!! I could only hope for such great results. I just chalk it up to everyone having their own opinion. What works for some doesnt necesarily work for others.
Day 1-Started @ 270lb Day 2-Weigh in this am @ 267 Feeling good this morning starting day 2. I am at work today so we will see how this goes. I went to the gym from 6-6:30am. Will check in later. |

I am doing well with my fast. I'm leaving for work at 7:20 and have to bring food. Yes, it is the last Friday of the month, so all 8th grade teachers are bringing breakfast for the rest of our staff.
I am not sure if I will drop my food off and leave, or if I will stay in the teachers' lounge and socialize. This afternoon/evening I am going to the ball park for a baseball game. Oh, the hotdogs and snowcones. I will be strong!Slim~ You only have 3 more days until weigh-in. You can do this! One day at a time, and sometimes one hour at a time. Shae~ Great job on day 1! ![]() Takeelah~ You did well with 3 days fasting. I love to stay up late, so early to bed just doesn't work for me. If that were the case, I'd just sleep for 40 days! ![]() |

Hello all. I am not hungry but not THIRSTY either. So should I force myself to drink water? I saw the post that Hoops put up yesterday that says drink only when thirsty so thats what I have been doing. Just want to make sure thats ok. Only drank 8ozs so far today.
I do have this strange taste in my mouth that wont go away no matter how much I brush. Is that normal? |
