How is the CLA/GLA going?

My bottle of Borage oil does not say what the actual gla content. The cla says that it is 74-82% cla. So I will take 6 of the cla a day and 6 of the borage oil.

I did order the cla liquid and the NOW borage oil from Netrition today. That will make things allot easier! I just couldn't wait to start so I bought some from wal-mart too.

p_fairchild - the CLA from Walmart contains 74-82% of actual CLA... you would need 5 pills per day. I am going to order the liquid for hubby, he can't stand all of those pills and quits after just a few days.

hey Phil, it's my experience that if it doesn't specify a percentage on the back then it is whatever the pill is (like 1000 mgs or whatever). If you're concerned, email the manufacturer, thats what i did with my cla because it didn't have the percentage.

I Austin too, but because of 6th Street!! hehe, I was stationed at Fort hood for 9 months and we were there every weekend, although I don't remember too much, lol.

That's true for CLA I bet...but I don't think it's possible for his 500mg Borage Oil to be 500mg of GLA since the Borage Oil is made up of 4 other acids in addition to the GLA. so it couldn't be 100% GLA.

I switched to Borage Oil after reading your threads and am now headache free . My question is, I bought the Borage Oil from Walmart, 500mg capsules, and it doesn't tell the concentration of GLA in it. Does anyone here know what it is? The brand is Spring Valley, and it says 15ml of Vitamin E and 500mg of Borage Oil.

I'm putting in an order at Netrition this week, but until then I'd like to be accurate with what I have. Thanks!

No one knows for sure, but I imagine the Borage Oil formulas (% of ingredients) shouldn't vary too much...on my 1050mg Borage Oil, there's 240mg GLA...so I would guesstimate a 500mg Borage Oil pill to have about 100mg GLA...that's my .02 anyway.

And if that's the case, you would need 5 a day to meet the minimum recommended GLA dosage of 460 or you would need 10 a day to get 960 mg a day like some of us do (a.k.a. "close to the Caly 1000mg dosage" )

Hey, I got curious about the GLA percentage in Borage Oil and did some research...I came across the following statement:

"Capsules of borage oil typically contain about 24% GLA."

So...with this in mind, 500mg Borage Oil should contain 120mg of GLA (which is close to the 100mg I was predicting but the extra 20mg per pill does mean I needed to revise my recommendations!)

Instead of taking 5 500mg Borage Oil pills a day to meet the minimum 460mg dosage (as I mentioned previously)...you could actually get enough in 4 a day.

And instead of taking 10 500mg Borage Oil pills a day to meet the "Caly 1000mg" dosage (as I mentioned previously)...you could actually get enough in 8 pills a day to get 960mg (which is close enough to Caly's 1000 )

So...these are my updated recommendations based on tonight's research.
