elyse, how much CLA and Gla are you taking? Play with your dosage some, sometimes it takes more. If you are taking the pills you need at least 5 per day. I hope this starts working for you.

6000 mgs. CLA and 1000 mgs. GLA. (3 pills of cla and 2 pills of gla w/ breakfast and then again with lunch.) From what I've read - that should be about right?

Is that 6000 mgs. CLA the actual cla content? more than 3500mg a day makes it lose effectiveness.

You know when I look into a mirror, I can't really see what everyone else see until I take the pics. Then I can see the difference. I'm so glad that muffin/mushroom is shrinking.

Thank You!! I'm so happy!! I don't have a clue on how many pounds or inches I've lost since starting induction and the Combo. I mostly keep a picture diary of my transformation. I tend to get a little obsessive with things and I didn't want to go crazy on myself if I didn't see any loss in pounds or inches. So I just stick with taking pics and trying on clothes.

Why do you stall when you take the CLA & GLA? It doesn't make sense to me, what is the philosophy behind it?

Thanks, Beth in MN

BB, I dont have an answer for that but I will try to find one. Maybe someone else will know. I just know it works lol

Randi, welcome to the group. If you figure you need to take 3 caps a day of those cla, and 30 ina bottle, you would need 3 bottles at a cost of $30 a month. The liquid cla from Netrition has a full dose in 1/2 Tbsp at a cost of $23 a month. A much better value.

We also prefer to get our Borage Oil from Netrition. It has a higher GLA content, and more pills per bottle than wal-mart brand so less pills there too. So by getting them both from Netrition, its alot cheaper than taking all the caps from stores.

How CLA & GLA work .....

How does CLA work?
A: CLA prevents fat from being deposited into the cells by speeding up the body's fat metabolism. CLA also helps the body metabolize existing fat deposits. This fat then returns to the blood stream where it is used as energy by muscle cells and the liver.

Recommended CLA dosage:
3400mg a day

How does GLA work?
A: Numerous research studies have examined the role of GLA for improving health, specifically in the area of weight loss. GLA from borage oil causes less body fat to accumulate. Borage oil owes its healing power to the presence of essential fatty acids, the most important of which is GLA, an omega-6 fatty acid. (While borage oil is often used interchangeably with evening primrose oil, ounce for ounce, borage oil boasts more than twice as much GLA.)

Recommended GLA dosage:
1000-3000mg a day

thanks everyone for the info. i'm putting in an order tomorrow.

i'm looking into the "combat damage from MS". i don't believe i've ever read this anywhere. i have MS so i'm very curious. i'm going to do some research and see if i can come up with anything but if anyone knows of any articles or papers that can back up this statement, i would really appreciate it.
i havent been diagnosed with MS but i do have alot of symptoms. there are a few diff books by dr atkins that lists vits to take for ms. one is a vitamin book and one is similar. i forget the names. mine are packed away. i need to dig them out. vit d, co q 10, neuro ps, i cant remember what all i take for it. sam-e might help too as it helps for chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. sorry i cant be of better help.

age-defying diet revolution, vita-nutrient solution, age defying diet, the atkins essentials are the books. i know the first 2 have vitamins broke down into what they do. the 3rd im not sure i have it, and the 4th has info about vitamins as well. but i think the first 2 have the most. i think the 2nd book actually breaks it down into diseases and what to take for it. im trying to remember, but my books are still out in the garage all packed up.

Beth in MN - I believe that you "stall" because of the way the combo works... it's promoting lean muscle while blocking fat cells from maturing.

Muscle is more dense than fat, so while you are losing inches, you may not lose scale weight.

Hope this helps.

Also, while your body is going through this transition, your fat cells, not being able to hold onto fat, are trying to hold water, which is also more dense than fat. That's why after a few weeks when those fat cells finally give up, you start to lose again.

Some people never experience this stall, although their scale weight slows.

Randi - Actually, any "pill" form of CLA only has about 750mg of CLA per pill. So you need 5 pills per day to get the 3400mg that is needed for this supplement to perform it's best. If you want the pill form, Netrition has 90 for $9.99. you will use about 2 bottles per month.

The liquid CLA is easier because you get all that you need in one dose per day. It's $22.95 (I think)

elyse, 3 pills of CLA? That's 1000mg each pill... they only have about 750mg of actual CLA in them. You need at least 5 pills of CLA to get an effective dose.

Here's Trish's chart of different doses of CLA and how they work.

Oooops, now I see, you are taking enough.... maybe try cutting one CLA pill and see if you get results.

I forgot to mention.... the pill form of CLA contains glycerine, which sometimes causes stalls.... Could it be that you are not digesting the pills at all??? I'll have to research that. Maybe liquid form is the way to go for you.

Be back in a little bit with research (I hope)

elyse, are you taking any other supplements? I know that calcium supplements can cause some problems with other supplements or meds not digesting... and cortisol causes the EFA supplements (which is CLA and GLA) not to be digested.

(still looking)

You can combine the flavors: Orange & Vanilla = Creamsicle, Coconut & Almond = Pina Colada, Chocolate & Hazelnut or White Chocolate & Almond are soooo good also.

Best of Luck and have fun,

Hello all -
I'm trying to check in everyday but have not had a lot of time to post recently. Work has me up to my eyebrows in alligators. DH had his third round of chemo on Wednesday. He has made arrangements to take a medical leave from his job, which is a good thing. It is very fast paced and stressful and in the "chemo fog" he just isn't up to it on many days. They are working out an arrangement for him to continue some of his administrative duties from home. He'll be able to keep his fingers in the pie but out of the firing line. He's also turning his hobby of woodworking into a business. He's joining up with a friend who already has a custom woodworking business to do some projects as he feels able. He'll be able to work out of our shop in the basement and if he gets tired, he can stop and lie down.

These arrangements are good on so many levels - he continues to work with people he truly likes; he can work on low stress activities when he's feeling up to it; and there is still a steady stream of income. I was pretty freaked out at the idea of having just my income.

I'm also working on a jewelry project. I'll post pictures when it's done, but I'm making custom necklaces for a wedding party of 6 bridesmaids and 1 flower girl. That is taking up most of my evening hours I would normally spend reading and posting. I'm really excited about the way they look and this will be my first "commissioned" project.

Well, I've certainly rattled on..... happy Friday to you
