I am smiling ear to ear. You all are so wonderful, thank you for all the compliments and continued support. I
you all!Trish, my confession..........until this Tuesday past, I didn't workout at all! I think all the running around and caring for my newborn son must have supplemented the exercise. But I did finally join a gym on tuesday and now I am going mon-fri. Today I did 20 minutes on the bike and then joined a class that was a mix of step, abs and upper body workout. Yesterday I ran for 25 minutes (got to rebuild my stamina) and then did abs and lower body. I'm going to do some sort of cardio and ab work 5 days a week and then alternate upper body, lower body and core training each day. I'm really excited to see how it will pay off next month.

No Exercise????? *faints* After seeing your results, I am NOT gonna cheat anymore !!!! Are you staying stricktly on plan? I have lost 20 lbs since I started in Oct, but I have been stalled since Thanksgiving when I started cheating every now and then. I havent gained any back, and I do credit that to the combo. I wanna get back to losing now !!!!

WOW, I must say I'm very impressed with the great results you had Caly! Thats wonderful. More motivation for me to pick a diet program and stick to it... hopefully it should be motivation. I LOVE my carbs and I'm afraid if I go back to Atkins I won't be able to stick to it.
I'm over my tummy virus and have my CLA and GLA. I took the first dose yesterday. Couple questions, which are probably answered somewhere amongst the hundreds of pages many times over, but I will ask again. 1) I'm on medication for my hypothyroid, is there anyone else who is also and have you had any problems with your medication and staying regulated? 2) I've seen alot of people say how much of the borage oil to take, but how much of the evening primrose oil should I take? Now Bradley and I are off to workout. Hope you are all having a good Friday and looking forward to the weekend ![]()

Thank you Val - maybe I will get brave and post it again. I am sortof trying an experiment on right now. I have been stalled for so long that I am doing induction again and I went off the CLA/GLA combo for right now to see if the scale moves. If it doesn't... back on CLA/GLA. Always experimenting..
I did have something that made me feel pretty good yesterday happen. I took my DD to the eye doctor who our family has gone to for about 15 years. He runs a TOPS class every Thursday night and I told him that if it was earlier in the day I would come to it. He said (and so did the two people working there) "Why you have done so good and don't need to lose any more". I thanked him but told him I have about 40 more to go. I don't know if they were just being kind, but it did feel good at the moment. i have never had that other than from my own parents tell me that I shouldn't lose any more. But they haven't seen me naked and all the fat not confined in clothes ![]() I should really change that...I was 210 when I started Atkins three years ago. I was 296 in 1997 and did the phen-phen...lost to about 190, went off of it and gained back to 260...went on meridia and lost to about 230 and went off that... and have been working on it ever since. Got serious in October of 2003 and went on Atkins and have been on a stall for the year of 2005... now I am kicking it in gear and going to get to goal.

Mind if I join y'all????
I've been reading this thread on and off since I started LC about two months ago. I wanted to start the combo but I was too scared of seeing a stall on the scale. However, after seeing Caly's results I want to start now! OMG girl- what a difference a month has made for you. You look absolutely AMAZING. I honestly don't know where else you are going to lose weight from! The combo has definitely agreed with you. I keep looking at you pictures in disbelief (not in a freaky way LOL). You are beautiful. Your hubby must have been so proud when he saw you.I've been amazed at everyone's progress since starting the combo. I thought I would wait until I lost quite a bit more before starting CLA/GLA but I don't know now. What do you all think I should do? I'll give a little background on myself. I'm 24 and in court reporting school. A year ago I moved to Houston w/ my boyfriend of 8 years. We're from Louisiana, about 45 minutes SW of New Orleans. I've struggled with my weight for about 4 years now, 2 years ago I gained about 70 pounds really fast. I'll blame that on depression. Before that I've always been thin so this is really hard for me. I'm so embarrassed by what I look like now. I hate going back to LA to visit family b/c I'm so scared I'll see someone from high school. I've pretty much abandoned all my friends from school b/c of my weight. This weight has held me prisoner long enough! My whole personality has changed. I used to be confident and outgoing, now I'm anti-social. I've tried dieting (mostly weight watchers), but have never had the determination like I do now. I've gone off plan twice since I've started LC, but I get back on and that's what is important to me. Before I would have quit for good, but something is different now. Sorry that was so long. I hope there's room in the family for me. I can see how close everyone is here, don't want to feel like I'm barging in!

Courtney, your more than welcome to join our family
. We love having new people join. Sounds like you have the determination to make it happen this time . I started the combo about 2 weeks after I started LC'ing. I did have a 2 week stall after a couple weeks but the inches kept melting. Everyone has their own opinion about when they start it. if its better to wait or start now. Someone else should have any answer for you very soon Keep us posted and dont forget those starting pics (you dont have to post them) and measurements !!!Last edited by kycowgirl : 01-13-2006 at 04:17 PM. |

Found another study ......
Simply put, CLA helps people lose weight because it's a good fat. Consuming it accelerates of the body's metabolic rate while slowing the body's conversion of dietary fats into body fat. In a way, when the body is getting enough fat through the diet, it doesn't feel the need to hoard fats by enlarging adipose tissue.
This benefit can be further accelerated by avoiding all low-quality fats in the diet: hydrogenated oils (found in nearly all cookies, crackers and baked goods), soybean oil (the most common, cheapest vegetable oil on the market), and other low-cost vegetable oils. Instead, the consumption of healthy oils should be increased: extra virgin olive oil, flax seed oil, evening primrose oil, peanut oil, macadamia nut oil, and even extra virgin coconut oil. By consuming these oils while avoiding all refined carbohydrates, the body will naturally achieve a healthy triglyceride level in the bloodstream. In this CLA study, it's important to note that study subjects consumed over three grams of CLA each day. That's a fairly high dose. Most people taking CLA supplements don't even come close to that dose, since many softgels hold no more than 500mg of oil. You'd have to take six or seven each day to match the dose used in the study. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's a level of supplementation that most consumers would never reach. For some reason, consumers tend to take nutritional supplements, herbs, vitamins and minerals like they were drugs: one pill a day. That's typically far less than what's needed, depending on the supplement. For example, I personally take as much as ten grams of chlorella each day -- that's twenty 500mg capsules (an entire handful). Chlorella isn't a drug, it's a superfood. People should be eating it like food. CLA falls into the same category: it's a food, not a drug. It would be more effective and more convenient to buy CLA in its liquid form and take it by the tablespoon rather than individual gelcaps. In any case, CLA is certainly effective in helping people lose weight, but once again its effects pale in comparison to daily exercise, strength training, and the avoidance of all processed foods and metabolic disruptors. If you decide to take CLA, don't make the common mistake of thinking it replaces daily exercise. Instead, use CLA in conjunction with exercise to achieve your health and fitness goals. |
