Quick note:

I've decided that the bathroom ceiling will be painted sky blue this time (spending WAY to much time in there!) and lost 1 pound since yesterday! Something's working and I'm thrilled.

Val, I'm sorry to hear of your brother's passing although the cardinal sightings were very cool! You seem to have a good handle on the last few weeks, given all the trials and tribulations inherent in a family crisis. I look forward to reading about your successes. In fact, your measurements are almost identical to mine which I thought was a little freakier than the cardinal!

Trish, glad you are feeling better these days. Too bad about your sinuses though. They can really be a drag.

Abby, a friend of mine had a "coming out party" when she had her head shaved because of chemo. Of course, she threw herself a party for everything including chemo treatments, beginning chemo, ending chemo, getting Hairy-ette (her wig), and the completion of her reconstructive surgery. She made it less awkward for those of us who were trying to be supportive and taught us a great deal at the same time. She also sent out a group email after each dr. visit or treatment so we'd all know she was doing without making her husband crazy with our phone calls. I marveled at her courage. She is still going strong. I wish the same for your husband, and yourself.

I need to get out of the office now but I will come back tomorrow to catch us with my shout-outs.

Michelle, No needles please !! I swear I am all better !!!
I am so sorry to hear you lost a sister. I cant imagine losing one of mine, how painful that would be
I was thinking, since we all were bad and kinda fell off, what do you think if we hold off our monthly measurements and update pics till the first of the month? That should give us time to recover from the holidays. I know it was rough for alot of people, but I am so proud of everyone who is still hanging in here and didn't quit. Whatcha think?

Val, I am so sorry about your brother . I lost my father 4 days before Christmas last year. Your cardinal story made me cry. My grandmother passed away a couple years ago at age 94. She loved cardinals. She had hundreds of cardinal nic nacs around her house. Everytime I see a cardinal now, I think of her and it makes me smile. Thank you for sharing that with us. I'm glad your joining the combo with us

Abby, you constantly amaze me. Even with everything your going through, you still take time to come here and offer support and encouragement to everyone. Your my hero

Calyyyyyy, welcome back. I kinda figured you would be busy with your dh and wouldnt be posting much lol. Did he have to leave already? I say go ahead and start back on the combo. Its kept me from gaining through the holidays.

Carla, I feel much better thank you

Karen, sounds like your off to a good start, keep us posted

Chevy? where are you hiding???
Waves to Chrystine, I know your out there too lol
Kim? havent heard from you in a while, where are you?

I think holding off 'til the first is an excellent idea!!!! It will give us time to make up for what we messed up.

Caly, If you want to see that scale move right now, don't restart the combo.... after a couple of months your body will get used to it and there will be no reason to wait if you fall off plan... the scale had finally started moving and I was down to 147.5 before the holiday cheats... now it is finally going in the right direction again. If I hadn't cheated I would probably be in the 130s.. makes me mad!!!!

you all!!!!

You guys are so wonderful! You just can't imagine how much I appreciate and value your friendship and encouragement during this time. You guys keep me laughing which I desparately need! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

DH and I just finished the head shaving. Karen - I think that's such a cool idea what your friend did! Attitude is everything in the struggle with cancer. I'm amazed at the life lessons I'm getting out of this.

Carla - get to feeling better! Did Trish send that your way??? I know that there is a lot of crud going around here. Apparently everywhere.

I'm hoping I'll have a good day on the scale tomorrow. TOM is over and I've had a couple of really good days food wise. I need to see that number moving here.

Hiya everyone,

I've been checking out this thread for several days now and started reading at the begining. I got impatient tonight and skipped ahead! I ordered some CLA and GLA a few days ago and expect it in tomorrow (well, I guess it would be today now!). It looks like you have alot of fun and are a good support for each other, so if you don't mind I'd like to join you.

A little about me... I've done Atkins in the past with fairly good results. Since I had my son in 6/04 I haven't done a whole lot. I didn't gain alot of weight while I was pregnant because I was pukey through my entire pregnancy, but started packing on the pounds after I had him since I could eat again and I'm sure my metabolisim was shot from not eating much through my pregnancy. Not to mention I nursed and felt like I was hungry and eating constantly.

I've recently decided I need to get serious about losing the weight. I can't stand seeing pictures of myself. I thought I'd try the body for life program, and have been following the exercise program quite well for about 6 weeks now (4 pounds gone, nothing too amazing but its a start). The diet thing hasn't gone so well though. I've tried Atkins a few times over the past year, but as its been a pretty rough year (my husband was killed in a car accident 1-12-05) I haven't stuck to it for more than a couple weeks and then get stuck in emotional eating.

So, alas... I know that I really need to start watching what I eat but can't seem to decide what program I should do. I know that I need to pick one and stick to it. If I could just find one that I could stick to though!

Wow... sorry for the LONG post. I'm not always that long winded. And I'm not always up at this time either! I was exhausted and crashed when my little man went to bed and slept for 4 hours and couldn't get back to sleep. I think its time that I go crawl back in bed and get a few more hours of sleep. Looking forward to tallking to all of you more soon

Trishagrrl - Glad to have you join us!!! I am very sorry to hear about your loss, I can't say that I know how that feels, but I can imagine how horrible it was and is for you. You have my prayers and support.

Trishagrrl & Veronica
I am sure that you have read that the combo stalls your scale.... use your tape measure and you will be happy. After about 6 weeks the scale will start moving again. That's how it was for me. You will also want to take before and monthly pics... even if you don't share them here. They are great to look at for motivation.

If you have any bathroom issues when you first start the combo... give it a week or so... it should go away, however it didn't ever go away for Heather150 so she had to stop the combo. If you have acne issues, wash your face morning and night and take a Vitamin C every day... it does help.

I hope this works for you.

Tom - thanks for letting us know that KY mine accident was not where Trish is. We want both of you safe!

Welcome Veronica and Trishagrrl - glad to have you joining us. Some people also have headaches if they are taking Primrose Oil for the gla. I found if I take it with food I don't have any problems.

I was at 196 for the second day in a row! Yippee! All through the holidays I bounced between 197 and 199. I hoping this means I'm back on the down hill slide.

Hello,

Thanks for welcoming me to your group And for the kind words and tips that you gave.

Veronica - Yes my little guy and I are doing fine now. Its been a rough year with lots of up's and downs, but God has given me an abundance of strength and peace so I certainly can't complain.

I'm looking forward to starting the CLA and GLA and seeing if it can work as well for me as it has all of you. Maybe help me see more results with my workout program?! That would be nice. Now I just have to get the diet piece in place. I don't have to worry too much about it today. I woke up feeling very and have already thrown up twice! ICKY! I guess I got it from my son who just got over the flu. Ah well... I figured I'd get it. Hope you all have a lovely Wednesday.

Hi everyone. I haven't posted for a while about the combo but I'm still on it. I didn't eat too good during the holidays or since then but I haven't gained any weight. I wonder if it's from taking the combo everyday? Normally I would have gained at least 5-10 lbs by now!

I have a question for those that have been taking the combo for a while. It seems that I have to wash my hair everyday now because it gets oily much faster than it used to. I used to be able to go at least every other day without washing. I believe this started since taking the combo. Has anyone else noticed this about their hair?

Yes!!! Actually, before the combo my hair was DRY.... I'm talking desert dry!!!! Now it's just normal... I wash every other day. Maybe switch up your shampoo and conditioner for oily type hair.

With the recent mining accidents we are hearing on the news, I just want to thank you all for your concern. Just for the record. I work in a "Limestone" mine. Yes I am 600 feet underground, and it can be dangerous, but it is nothing like the coal mines. The name of our mine is "Black River". So now you know if you hear of another one. Your concern is really
touching. you alll

Michelle, We are going to get that scale moving again !!! *stomps foot* I have been at a stall at 178 myself. I'm glad its not going up, but that one day at 177 sure made me feel good. What a tease my scale is lol. I want to be in the 160's by Feb 14 and I am gonna get my butt in gear and get there. My friend Jackie at work, said hes been taking the combo for over a week now and he can feel a difference already. He said he never felt better and has so much energy he did 3 miles on his treadmill

Abby, I swear, I didnt get Carla OR Trish sick silly girl .
On a serious note......
In Dec 2003, my friend, who has never smoked a day in her life, was told she had a large cancer tumor on her lung. They gave her 6 months to live. But, they didnt know her very well. Shes one stubborn gal. She wouldnt accept that and made plans to go to mayo clinic in Florida for an experimental treatment. She was told she would lose her hair, so she went wig shopping and shaved her hair as soon as it started thinning. She got different colors and styles. Her natural hair was almost black and she got a blonde wig. She looked really good in it, and her sense of humor was amazing through all of it. She said she always wanted to try being a blonde and laughed. To make a long story short, today she is healthy with no sign of the cancer. She gets tested every 6 months to make sure it stays gone. I think everyone in 6 counties was praying for her. I believe in the power of prayer. I hate that your dh is having a hard time with his treatments, but I have faith that hes going to pull through this with flying colors. How could he not, with you by his side

Oh another Trish , You are more than welcome to join us. We like long first posts. It gives us an idea of who you are. I am so sorry about your husband. This is a really good site to come to for advice, support, and when you just need a friend and a shoulder to cry on. We are all here for each other. We even have a rant or 2 at times lol *pokes Michelle*. I'l looking forward to getting to know you better. Keep posting !!! Oh and make sure you measure and take before pics. we have a progress picture post the first of every month. Thats where you can really see the difference. They are good to have even if you dont want to post them here

lcforlife, welcome back . Its good to see so many straglers coming back to the family I give the combo credit for not gaining over the holidays also. I have to wash my hair every day anyway, it gets full of lime dust and feels like cotton candy when I come out of the mine. It has improved my hair and nails. They are both growing like crazy and my hair is much thicker now.

Hello, everyone!

Last night I had the most awesome dinner! I browned a pound of ground chuck. Used the same pan to quickly saute till golden brown 1/2" diced pieces of yellow squash. Added the meat back in, put in about 2 tablespoons of sour cream, salt, pepper and then topped with a little 4 cheese mexican. Less than 4 carbs! And so good I had the rest for breakfast! For my green veggies I had chopped spinach and green beans with butter.

Day 3 back on plan completed successfully. I already feel so much better. I have always felt "logey" when I eat carbs, don't know why I always forget how much better I feel without them.

WHOOSH FAIRY

Now, on to the news from the bathroom this mornig!!!!!! All through the holidays I bounced between 197 - 199. Yesterday I was at 196 and WHOOSH FAIRY made her way to the Bluff! Today I was at 194!

I decided to give up my nightly glass (and often times 2) of wine. Soon as I did, the WHOOSH happened. Dang it! I found it a pleasant way to relax after work, but guess if it's what's been slowing down my weight loss I'll give it up as a nightly activity! There are many other ways to relax and I'll just have to take those up.

Congratulations Abby on the loss.. now can you send the whoosh fairy to my house

I too have given up my after work cocktail with my husband while I make dinner. Was our little time as I cook dinner we have a drink together and talk about the day. But I haven't had any in about three days. I have gone from 184.5 monday to 181 today. Hope it continues.

Val - your dinner sounds really good!!!

Need some input

I started my new WOE (Lean for Life, which does allow carbs) and the combo supplements at the same time. I feel great (= less time in bathroom) and have wonderful nails after 1.5 weeks, but I'm not losing anything. What's the group consensus? Should I stop the combo and let the weight loss happen? For how long? Has anyone else started both at the same time and been successful with the WL part? I am a slow loser to begin with and I'm not consistent at exercise which doesn't help matters. But I finally got the combo going smoothly and hate to give it up now that it's part of my daily pill-pack. I haven't lost anything after a week and a half and just started to exercise again. I was hoping maybe the whoosh fairy would visit and resolve my fears but alas....she must be tired from going to Abby's house this week. How much longer should I give it before I make a change?

Hi Karen! I've lost 2.5 pounds since Monday, and frankly, I would rather have lost inches! The reason we want to lose weight is to be smaller, and the combo seems to be making people smaller without losing weight. I wouldn't care if the scale said 300 if my measurements were 36-24-36! Did you measure? Have you lost any inches?

I gave up my almost nightly 6 pack! LOL! That alone probably accounts for the 2.5 pound loss! Tomorrow is the service at the Veteran's Cemetary for my brother. Mom and Dad together again - hope I can handle it without needing beer tomorrow night!

OMG Caly, that has to be the most dramatic change I have seen yet in such a short time. You Look Beautiful !!!!!!!!

We decided since everyone kinda fell off the wagon through the holidays, that we would change our update pics to the first of the month and give everyone a chance to recover lol. That way we can combine them with the tight jeans challenge pics too. WOW Caly, you look HOT !!!!!!!!! I am sooooo impressed
