Happy New Year everyone!

Wow Amy! That is quite a great story. Your life is really just where you want it to be. Congrats on getting through all of that and coming out the other side. 2006 should really be your year!

Hope everyone gets off to a great start for the New Year. I'm giving the FF a try for a few days and then probably will go back to primarily M/E which is my "usual". Still truckin' with the CLA/GLA although don't really see dramatic stuff happening. I believe in it enough to keep taking it though. I also only just got back into working out after a 2-3 week "break" when I got my elliptical 12/21, so that may get me heading back in the right direction.

Happy New Years to everyone.

We had our New Years party last night I am happy to report I ate all lc foods...meat, cheese, veggies. Although I think my intake of alcohol send it way over the edge. But I was proud that I didn't indulge in any of the chips and chocolates.

Well gotta get cleaned up from last night... 9 kids in a basement playing..lots of clean up to do. but I don't mind that because that means they were all having fun.

2006 ... WOW

Lauren, Glad you got your order. I love the liquid cla. Trust me, your appetite will go away in a few day. Thats a wonderful way to get in your water. I am going to try that also

Amy, congrats on not gaining any weight. The CLA/GLA combo and Phase 2 carb blockers is an amazing combo. I did some bad cheating over the holidays and I am actually down 2 ozs. lol I need this challenge to get the scale moving again. My 16's are already getting loose so I know the combo is still doin its thing. I may have to change to a 12 for this challenge instead of a 14.

Alismom, I think your like me, we need to kick it up a notch and get things moving again

Carla, Congrats on not cheating. I wasnt so strong !!! I'm lucky it didnt come back to kick my butt !!!

am wondering if this might work?

I've been doing unstructured moderate-low carb with the occasional M/E fast but I thought I might try something more structured on a regular basis.

So, as of today, I'm trying to do the CAD/CALP diet, but still trying to do LC bread, LC pasta, veggies, occasional LC sweets etc. at my RM instead of high carby stuff. And then too, I am taking the Phase 2 carb blockers with this one meal a day.

As a bonus, since I can only have diet soda at my RM, it will force me to drink water the rest of the day.

how does this sound? does it sound ok? am interested in others' opinions.

Still doing the combo, I am getting lazy with my water intake!!!! Bad Bad girl!!!!

I hope everyone is having a great Monday. I am very busy here, it's hard to deal with business and kids. Hubby and I got in a tiff this weekend... he never helps with ANYTHING here and it has been really hard for me since the kids got out of school for vacation. If he is home he is on the computer or sleeping! I had to go to a meeting Saturday and I came home to him asleep on the couch and the whole house completely trashed and the kids running around outside with no shoes on and dirt from head to toe.

I left the trash by the back door for him to take out... it got up to 4 bags and he continued to walk right past them, I finally took it out this morning after he left for work. I am on my last nerve and it's wearing out!!!! He never does anything with these boys anymore... he used to play outside or take them to work on occasion, or to the store etc.... he doesn't even go to the store any more and the only time he notices the kids is when he is telling to be quiet so he can hear the TV.

After Christmas I had hoped that this would change, he was great for that one day...

Sorry to rant like that, chalk it up to frustration. ya'll, thanks for being here.

Michelle you can rant all you want. We are all here to listen. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. You are a wonderful person and I hate to see you hurting like this.

I know for me I am struggling too (weight wise), I am the same weight I was last year (give or take a few pounds). I am going to try back on induction, although I just can't give up my coffee (bad habit). I have no problem giving up soda.

The holidays are such a busy time with getting ready for Christmas and all the family functions and such that I think once the first of the year comes we all are so stressed from the whole thing that we get frustrated in ourselves.

I have to remind myself daily that things will work out and be patient. Also that I have a SUPER support system here on LCF.

to everyone!

Michelle, things will get back to normal when the kids go back to school and give you a little quiet time and eliptical time I'm glad me and trish stayed on the combo, we cheated quite freely...and didn't gain any wieght I chalk that up to the combo!!!!!

I'm jumping on the treadmill for my 45/45 workout and then taking down the christmas lights and transforming our dining room into a workout room!!!!

Hope everyone stops back in with us...miss them all!!!

you all

Michelle, Sorry your going through that . I hope things improve for you soon. I had a rough start to the new year myself. My son (29) went to a NY Party at the bowling alley with his fiance and I was going to go pick them up at 2am since they were drinking. He called at 1:30 upset and asked me to come get him. They had a big fight (both super drunk) and she walked out. To make a long story short, he ended up with a smashed cell phone (he slammed it on the ground when she hung up on him) , a bowling ball through the blazer window (my sons) yep, he did that too , my sons knuckles swollen, and a lost engagement ring he just bought. On top of that, The cops pull ME over on the way home for not using my turn signal and when he smelled the brewery coming from the back seat, took me to his car for a little talk. I explained the situation to him and once he "smelled" I wasnt the one drinking, he let me go with a "safety warning". Then when we got home, I had to physically bar the door with my body to keep my son from leaving and ending up in jail. He finally wound down and fell asleep at 5:30am. I hate drinking !!! I have officially declared our home alcohol free !!! Needles to say, I didnt have the energy (mentally or physically)to do anything yesterday and we had company on top of that so I didnt get any exercising in. Woke up with a killer sinus infection this morning, feel like crap !!!

On a good note, I was down a pound to 177 today. Probably stress lol. Gonna wait a few days to actually claim it. Hope the rest of the year is better than the start

Below is some more information about CLA: this is CLA Powder you can buy from the Protein Factory online (was just reading where you can order your own customized protein powders & CLA is one of the optional things you can add to your protein powder or you can order the CLA powder concentrate on its own--anyway, the whole customization thing looks pretty cool, lots of yummy flavors & you can choose what kind of sweetner you want (stevia, sucralose (splenda), etc.)!!

Product Description:

Clarinol CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is made from natural safflower oil and specially formulated with triglyceride CLA which allows fortification of taste-sensitive consumer foods and beverages. Due to the unique manufacturing process the inclusion of isomers other than c9, t11 and t10, c12 is suppressed. CLA with the highest available concentration of these two active isomers is thus obtained.

The CLA powder Protein Factory offers, has a concentration of 64% which makes it by far the most concentrated CLA powder on the market.

Bodybuilding and Athletic Supplementation Description:

In the past decade the potential beneficial effects of CLA on weight management has been studied and proven effective. Several studies have shown that CLA can positively affect body mass and is beneficial on lean muscle mass. CLA has also been shown to reduce the side effects from a low calorie diet such a skin rashes, irritability, depression and hair loss.

CLA’s benefits:
• Reduces Weight Gain
• Increases Lean Muscle Mass
• Reduces the amount of body fat
• Maintains body weight level

The interplay of fat storage cells with skeletal muscle causes combustion of fat, meeting the body’s energy needs. CLA has been found to influence the body’s natural fat burning metabolism. CLA has also been shown to burn fat at a higher rate due to the intensive breakdown of fat molecules in the skeletal muscle cells while reducing the breakdown of muscle tissue in turn, creating energy! All of that, while at the same time reducing adipocytes.

While supplementing with CLA, it will aid in weight control by stimulating fat loss, promoting muscle growth and hindering the growth of fat to naturally improve the shape of the body. These results are intensified with those who exercise regularly.

CLA is a previously unrecognized nutrient that occurs naturally in wide variety of food, and particularly in beef and dairy products. In more than 17 years of research, CLA has been shown to be an anticarcinogen in several animal models, reduce the adverse catabolic effects induced by immune stimulation in rats, mice and chickens, enhance growth performance in rats and inhibit plaque formation in rabbits fed an atherogenic diet at least in part via changes in lipoprotein metabolism. In the last several years, scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and elsewhere have begun to study CLA’s affect on metabolism, energy retention and balance between body fat and lean body mass.

According to a recent scientific paper, CLA inhibits the body's mechanism for storing fat and causes the body to utilize fatty reserves for energy.

CLA has been shown to inhibit lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme which breaks down fat gobules in the blood so that adipocyte (fat cell) uptake, or body fat accumulation, can occur. The inhibitation of lipoprotein lipase results in reduced fat deposition.
CLA also increases hormone sensitive lipase activity, an enzyme which breaks down fats stored in fat cells on the body. The fatty acids are returned to the blood stream to be used as an energy source for muscle cells. CLA directs the body to use fat reserves for energy.

CLA also has powerful antioxidant properties. In fact, it has been proposed that adding CLA to foods may prevent oxidation and mold growth in the food products.

Here's to everyone

I measured myself today just so I would have a "first" of the year measurement. Since starting the CLA/GLA combo on the 28th of November I have only lost an accumulative of 3.5". So...it's more exercise and keep up with the combo!! My goal is to get rid of my thunder thighs!!! Want to wear shorts this summer without feeling so self-conscience about my legs.

It will be a great 2006...because we have the support and friendship of all the wonderful people on LCF!!

You'll get there. I have lost 9" total in 9 weeks -- hey when you think of it that way, it's not bad! Average 1"/week! Many have lost 20" in that time but we'll take what we can get! I also admit I only measure my waist and lower abs because that is my main area I want to lose. I'm sure I have lost elsewhere too but haven't measured.

Michelle - are you married to my DH???????????? I don't think it's too much for a 42 yo man and a 19 yo teen age boy to put their dirty dishes in the dishwasher. Or, on my way out the door for work on Friday for me to remind DS it is trash day and to please take the can out to the street. I swear that next time the trash isn't out I am going to put the bags on his bed!

Trisha - There are no words! It was a good thing for you to pick up DS. Look at it this way: 2006 can only look up after that start!

CALP is hard!!!

with CALP, you're only supposed to have artificial sweetners with your one reward meal in an hour a day...I didn't realize how hard this would be!! I knew it would be hard to cut back on my diet drinks (crystal light, soda, etc.) and it has been...but I didn't realize how much I depend on splenda sweetened snacks too :::sigh:::

this has been eye-opening for me to see how much Splenda/Davinci etc. I actually consume!

in theory, it seems like a great plan, I just have to get disciplined enough about my AS timing!! between CAD & CALP, I lean more towards CAD, not that I eat "anything I want" but I don't eat salad every night the way CALP is designed to have you do.

in any case, I figured it was worth trying for a week at least to see what happens

Let us know how you like CAD/CALP Amy. I tried it years ago when it was on Oprah and it wasn't for me. I just became too obsessed with the reward meal and it was more strict during the day than regular LC eating. It was just too hard for me and the stuff I ate at the reward meal caused me to crave more carbs. It works well for a lot of people though, I just wasn't one of them. You gotta find what works for you.

Hi to Abby and Chevy. Abby, how's dh doing? Chevy, did you do your WATP? I have those too and used to love 'em. Just got sick of them after a while. They are pretty fun though and the workout flies by.
