Carol give sugar the link to your first post about coil. I read every post from day one and loved it.
Sugarisevil GO now to the TT web sight and e-mail them. They will make good on it. They did for 5cats4me. Read yesterdays post on here.
It's late and I am off to bed.
Oh, I saw a bark without cocoa- peanut butter but no chocolate.
Must try that.

Good morning everyone!
I have now been on CO for a month. I experienced appetite suppression and extra energy the first week, but then it seemed to go away. I wasn't feeling any specific detox symptoms-I just wasn't noticing positive effects. My weight was bouncing between 132-135. However I stuck with it, because I was convinced of long term benefits from my reading. The past few days, I've felt great, energy through the roof, and just a sense of well-being. TOM came the first week of CO, and it caught me off guard, because I didn't have the incredibly sore breasts I usually get the week before. I didn't know if it was a fluke, but it happened again today! TOM is here, and no sore boobs! This is huge for me! Also, usually the day before TOM comes, I could eat anything not nailed down. Yesterday, I didin't even eat anything after dinner, because I just wasn't hungry. Today I am 131.4, feeling great, no cramps. Life is good!

Philly, The peanut butter magic shell sounds good for a change, that is, if I ever get tired of chocolate!

WMS, Love the new avatar! You look fabulous!

I emailed Tropical Traditions after reading 5cats' experience, because my VCO tastes soapy to me. This is my message and their reply.

Dear Tropical Traditions,
I received a gallon each of the expeller pressed and virgin CO. The EP is great, but the virgin has almost a soapy taste that I find very off-putting. I have never had VCO before. Is this taste normal? It overpowers whatever I use it for, and no matter how I try it, my family won't eat any recipes I've tried it in. What should I do?

Hi Cathleen -

Because our coconut oil is gathered from many different farms in the Phillipines, one farm's product may taste different than another. We are constantly testing the oil for quality control, but the taste can vary from batch to batch. Additionally, since the oil will turn to liquid above approx. 75 degrees, if the temperature is close to 75 degrees and the oil is in a state of partially liquid and partially solid, it will sometimes appear to be discolored.

Some people love the taste of our Virgin Coconut Oil and feel it tastes better than any other brand on the market. Others cannot stand it. We cannot guarantee taste, as it is very subjective. We concentrate rather on guaranteeing the quality of the oil, and its purity. We believe that the true judgement on any coconut oil is how it affects people's health, and I don't think you will find any other coconut oil company like ours that has hundreds of testimonies to the healing properties of their coconut oil (over 100 of these are recorded in our book. We use time-tested traditional ways of producing our coconut oil naturally that have been used for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Not everyone agrees that the best quality foods taste the best. For example, it is a fact that grass-fed beef is much more healthy than mass-produced beef, but most people will prefer the taste of a commercial fast-food burger over a leaner grass-fed beef. But we don't believe taste should be the ultimate test in judging the quality of a product. For those who do prefer a bland taste to coconut oil, we do have our certified organic Expeller-pressed coconut oil which is a high quality refined coconut oil. Many other vendors are selling this grade of coconut oil as "Virgin."

There is a test that you can do to ensure that the oil is not spoiled. Place a small amount of liquid oil into a glass container that you can see through and place it in the refrigerator to solidify. Once it is solid it will be white if it is OK and yellowish if it is not. After doing this test, if you should find that the oil is yellow, please let us know and we will be happy to replace it.

I hope this explanation resolves your concerns.

Have a great day!

Ginger
Tropical Traditions, Inc.

This is the response I'm sending back to them.

Ginger,
Thanks for responding to me. My oil is already solid, as I'm in Maine and it's cool here. It is white, not yellow, so I guess it's not spoiled, but I just can't imagine that the taste is right. I love coconut, and that's what I was expecting it to taste like, not soap. I am a member of a low carb board where a bunch of us have added CO, and are excited about the health benefits. However, I could not recommend your VCO to anyone if this is the way it is supposed to taste. I do love your expeller-pressed, however.
I'm just really disappointed in what is a very expensive product.

Thank you,
Cathy

So, I guess my VCO isn't bad, and this is what it's supposed to taste like. In that case, DO NOT buy TT VCO. It's nasty! Go for EPCO!

Hi ladies of the Island,

I am working my way down again from my mini-vacation..hopefully, I will be able to get back down to 132ish..(I'm 134.6 today)...

Sugar: There are many benies to the coconut oil..I"m thinking I will type some up and keep them handy for newbies..and for us to remind us..

What is going on with the Tropical Traditions??? They must have had a really bad batch of coconuts, but definitely email them and let them know..With enough complaints, they will surely investigate the situation and do something about it..I'll be anxious to hear if the NEW EVCO is better..

Cap: Whoa for you gal..we do have to remind ourselves that the coconut oil is working in the areas where we don't notice..and once it gets the bacteria fought, etc. it will work on the weight loss...

See you all later..Carolyn

PS: I made an individual muffin from Philly's idea;

2 Tbs. flaxseed meal
2 Tbs. Carbquik
2 Tbs. coconut
1 Tbs. sweetener or Davinici's
1 egg, beaten
1 Tbs. coconut oil, melted

Mix this all up and put it in a cereal bowl or small casserole in the microwave..Mine took about 1minute and 30 seconds. Take out, cool, slice, and toast..It is wonderful. and there are many variations that you can do..

Cathy,

Good letter..and I can't imagine that anyone would like to eat soapy coconut oil..
I think they have a bad source of coconuts...or their processing is defective..
If I were them, I would try to please the majority of the customers...and if someone
couldn't stand the taste of my product, I would be very concerned..don't you think??

Good thing we have other choices.

Morning CO's

Loved that quote, Sugar: Long live the coconut! (My new motto!)

Feeling great this morning. Still no urges to inhale large quantities of food (TOM will be here any hour), and I'm SOOOO HAPPY ABOUT THAT!

So far this morning (been up since 6:00) I've had 1/2 of the 3 min choc cake -- or 1 TBS of CO. And coffee. No appetite!

I got all psyched up for the scales (drum roll, please) and normally, a day before TOM I would NEVER get on the scales....but ya know how ya just know? Well, I'm down 1.5 pounds from last Friday! CAn't wait until next Friday to see what happens after TOM leaves!

Cap57, thanks for the comps. Your post was so inpsiring, and I agree with everything you said. Patience, C Heads, patience.

I'm pasting the link to all the Team Coconut threads. Some of you may want to check out the first one or two (chronologically) to find the health benefits ... I believe there are several posts including them.

http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/se...searchid=76304

Going to a 40th birthday party tonight, and I plan to have a Coconut Rum and sugarfree lemonade mixed drink.....they're soooo good. Maybe I should add a TBS of oil to it???? Hmmmm.

Gonna try to keep my calories low today so the alcohol won't mess me up.

You guys have a great weekend. I'll check back later.

carolyn- thanks any listing of any info would help. i have a few friends at work that are interested.

cap-i got a gallon of tt expeller coil . i agree but i believe thats the way its supposed to be. i also have garden of life in a pint its awesome it smells great i use that for consumption in the am i take it straight. still tough to bear but i do it.i just have a water bottle handy and use it as a chaser. i must admit gol is my favorite but hats also why its so expensive i decided to use my tt for bark hair and skin now, i couldnt imagine swallowing that stuff straight.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY-you know youre bad when you use the toilet and think to yourself geez i should weigh myself again, i have to be less now.

Good Morning! I got my Puritan Pride order yesterday so I used it in my breakfast shake today. Very good! I also have added coromega orange flavored omega 3 supplement to the shake which gives a slight orange flavor to the chocolate - delicious!

I'm going to try the PP straight off the spoon at lunch today. I usually take my TT lunch serving straight with a chaser of water. Much as I like the bark and other treats, I don't need the added calories from them.

I have better portion control if I just slug down a spoonful of vco. I've been doing it that way for almost 2 years and it works fine for me. My biggest problem has been remembering to take it! I always remember in the morning but the rest of the day I just forget.

Tonight is movie night for me and DH so I will make a 3 minute chocolate cake for a movie treat. That way I'll only eat half!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi all I'm coming out of lurk mode.

I have been using coconut oil since last fall pretty much off and on up to a few weeks ago. Since then I have been trying to get in 2 TBSP daily. Have not seen much weight loss but it does help with my appetite.

Cap57 - I ordered a gallon of the VCO from TT last fall and am just about out of it. Mine tastes great - like coconuts, not soap. You must have gotten a bad batch which is really too bad since it is so expensive. Your experience might have me rethinking where I buy my next VCO from. If they won't refund your money, at least you will have a great moisturizer and hair conditioner for the next few years.

sugarisevil

I'm have a batch of CO flaxseed muffins baking right now. They are similar to the recipe Carolyn posted - based on the cinnamon flaxseed muffin recipe using CO for the oil in the recipe. I always add some extra protein powder and dried coconut (I bought a gallon of it from TT last fall too). These muffins make great snacks and help with bathroom issues - I always take them with me when I travel as they are very portable.

Another favorite CO snack is CO fudge (got the recipe on this BB somewhere)
1 TBSP melted CO
1 scoop LC whey protein powder (I use chocolate)
A little Davinci syrup (I use German Chocolate)
Mix all together and wrap in wax paper and refrigerate until hard.
It tastes great and really fills you up.

I love it on my skin and hair too

Morning CoCo heads! Whew, back from visiting my sis, then took off for 2 days with DH on one of his jobs, now I think I am at home for a little over 2 weeks b/4 the next trip.
I will be starting my 7th week of using CO daily. I can tell you that I am not going to be giving this up. I love all the benefits I have seen and continue to see from using it daily. I just felt my back and where I used to have tiny little bumps often, now it is smooth and silky feeling. As is my skin all over, and I only use it externally once or twice a week. I continue to have some slight detox symptoms and I think I will for some time to come. Have another pimple trying to erupt on my chin, but now, they start, then go away within 2-3 days. In the past they would get really hard, red, and stick around for a week or so.

I received my order from Amazon last week, Coconut oil for Health and Beauty, AND, Coconut Cures by Bruce Fife. Wonderful information in both. I highly recommend Bruce Fife's book on CO. He has a new cookbook of Coconut recipes which is supposed to be out this month, and I can't wait to get it. Now that I am home for awhile, I will be using the CO more externally. It is hard to take with you, I have got to work on a leakproof container so that even if warm, I will never be far from our beloved CO.

I am a coconut...............................nut

Cathy, sorry you are having a bad experience with TT oil. That is the first one I have tried and mine is good, although I am on my last jar. I really will think twice before I order from them again, based on your experience. That was a mistake on their part not to address your concerns in a more professional matter, ie, replacing your oil or giving your money back.

So far I have tried the puritans pride, TT and nutiva and they have all been good and about the same in taste. I am anxious to try GOL, so many give good reports on it. I have on order the Cream de cocoa VCO which I have heard raves about, will report on it as soon as I receive it. Then, I have to stop for awhile or will be forced to build a warehouse in my backyard for my CO .

Caps, so sorry for distress... I will not order TT again because of their admitting that their suppliers are so varied they cannot oversee quality control 100%. Just read the label on PP and TT will be questionable just from ITS label. YEP, it will be Garden of Life for my next try.

Hi all!!
I've had a good few days on plan. I just tried the coconut milk with a chocolate protein shake for lunch. Nobody told me it gets all thick like glue in the fridge!! Yours did that right???
It tasted yummy, so I guess it was good!! It's only been in the fridge a couple days.

to all the newbies!!!! Just keep reading is the best advice, when I started here I did a search for coconut oil and it gives you all the threads for it.

Sweetlilac, I think they all 'work', it's just a matter of your preference and the virgin types are more pure, I think. I've used Spectrum Organic Refined and it was tasteless. I tried Puritan Pride and it has a mild taste, it's good and I think I'm stickin with it since people are having problems with Tropical Traditions.

Hi gals...

Nice to see you all posting..and doing so well..and Welcome, welcome to our South Seas adventure to our newbies..

Hey, I have an idea...do you think that coconut oil applied to the thighs would fight cellulite??? We know that the skin will absorb oil and one book tells us to put it on our skin if we aren't feeling well..or our tummies are upset..Wouldn't this be incredible if it fought cellulite??? Buffy, does your book say anything about that one??

Wow...that natural coconut sugar would be amazing...I wonder how they would do that???

Mary: I would definitely UP your coconut oil intake..to at least 3.5 Tbs. a day..that's when you see the benefits weightwise..Somewhere I read that we are supposed to take 1 Tbs. for each 50 pounds of weight..The 3.5 is the average amount..but each person is different..

I'm hoping TT will get their act together..otherwise, we are buying from other sources..which is too bad for them..as they are very nice people..

Karla: hmmmm, well the oil in the coconut milk will harden up in the fridge..like a thick milk shake..I'll have to try that..

Catch ya all later..

Buffy: Keep us posted on any new ideas from Fife's book..Question: Do you think this would be good on our faces to replace our wrinkle cream?? Does he say anything about wrinkles?? I started it last night..I bought Tree of Life..and it doesn't taste that great, so it's on the face, etc. now..
