TEAM COCONUT.................TUESDAY

Good morning..

In any coconut book there are many advantages to using the oil..for me,
it's the easiest oil to digest..I don't have a gallbladder, so other oils
would sometimes hang around in my stomach..but coconut oil is great..

CA: Hmmm...maybe you are totally detoxed..that's why you feel light
and airy..Your calories looked good.

Turn and Burn: Ways to take it to work? It depends what you take to eat..
try making the bark, or mix some with Carb Countdown Yogurt (before work),
or take some and add it to your coffee..I'm not sure the LouAna would be
good in your coffee..or not..Maybe others have an idea.

I'm continuing to do the Protein Shakes for 2 or maybe 3 meals..tomorrow..
The 4 ounces of coconut milk really helps fill me up..as well as adding the
Benefiber.

See ya in the real a.m....

5cats - I wonder if massaging it on your skin has the same benefits as taking it internally, kinda like the progesterone cream? LOL - I find it hard to put in my salads as it gets solid when hitting something cold. Is that why you mix it with olive oil? I tried to mix it with my dressing and it got pretty gross!

I am going to cut back to 3 servings today and see what happens. I am going to also pick up more of the coconut milk - I didn't realize that 10 oz of that is equal to 3.5 tbsp of the oil - I can find alot more uses for the milk than I can for the oil. It seems to work out about the same on calories? Does anyone know that?

Have a great day fellow cocoheads!

Two weeks until payday--guess I'll be rationing my remaining bark until then! One piece in the morning . . . I have coconut milk so I need to get out my Indian cookbook and make some curry using coconut milk. I LURVE curry! Did you know that you can make a curry using hard boiled eggs (i.e. instead of meat)? I've just read the recipe, never tried it, but a friend of mine is Indian and said it's very good. (Hey, I could start my own trend--the egg and coconut fast--LOL)

I read my new cookbook and Sharron Long suggests using VCO for sweet recipes and the expeller expressed for savory recipes. And she has some coconut recipes, too. Just thought I'd throw that out there for the cooks among us.

Morning CoCo heads.
Joy, that is what I do, use VCO for the bark and Epco for cooking my eggs, etc.

In the book it does say that you do absorb some of what you rub into your skin, I just don't know how much that would be.

I ate OP again yesterday, slap, slap. I had a very hectic day, let myself get tooo hungry, then ate the wrong things. Again though, I still got my CO in. Hopefully today I can get back on track, have one more day of this ratrace I am currently in, then things get more back to normal.

I have ordered 2 more books: 1 of: Coconut Cures: Preventing and Treating Common Health Problems with Coconut
1 of: Coconut Oil: For Health and Beauty
but one is out of stock so don't expect delivery until later in May.

Feeling much better today than yesterday -- following my shameful, much regretted emotional food binge on Sunday!!!

Still doing Louana CO. Won't weigh (because of binge) till Friday perhaps.

Carrie, to answer your post Q from yesterday, what I noticed most about TOM changes was my lack of insatiable appetite/cravings....they do me in every time. NOT THIS MONTH!

I've begun adding 1/4 tsp cinnamon to my bark recipe. Can't hurt, and it tastes good too.

I'm back in control today and it feels great.

OK, now I am up another 1/2 lb, and TOM is gone. I have gained a pound and a half on CO, eating beautifully cleanly, and going to the gym for an hour and a half 5 days a week. This combination usually makes me drop weight like there's no tomorrow, but as soon as I added the CO, it started sticking to me like GLUE!!!! ARG!! I am going to go off the CO for a couple days and see what happens. Wish me luck, everyone!!!!!

I finally got my CO from Netrition and started yesterday. I am really impressed at how it suppressed my (monster) appetite, so I am not as worried about the extra calories. Today I added ground unsweetened coconut to the bark that I've been making. Mmmm reminds me of an almond joy!

3 tbsp CO, 1 tbsp lc peanut butter, 1 tbsp cocoa, 1 tbsp unsweetened coconut, sweetner to taste (I use fiberfit). I put a tsp of the coconut in the cupcake liner and poured in the bark/fudge mixture and popped it in the freezer for a bit. MMMMmmmmm!

I heard this guy, David Wolfe on a radio show this morning, the show was a couple hours long. He was very interesting-a raw foodist, which I've read a lot about before. I visited his web-site and he has a page on coconut oil, too. A little bit of interesting info, for some of you who may not have any books on CO yet. Here's the link:
http://www.davidwolfe.com/articles/coconut.shtml

They sell it, but it's kind of pricey. Info is interesting, though.

He also said on the program that cocoa powder is awful-processed and awful. He advocates eating raw cocao (spelled this way) beans, and sells those, too, but they are sold out. Very interesting stuff on the cocao beans-there's info on the health properties of those, too, if you look around. I definately want to try eating those-sounds real good! They probably sold out cause of the show.

Hi..

You can have several rounds of detox..I know that I did..one was the tummy thing and the other can be the flu thing..or the swollen lymph nodes as the body is detoxing through the lymph nodes..

On the coconut milk question: depending on the fat content of the milk, it determines how much coconut milk equals 125 calories of fat..(one TBS. of the oil)..one serving of my brand is slightly less than 3 ounces, but only has 80 calories of fat..So, I would have to take 1/2 cup to equal the 125 calories of fat..the lite is not recommended as you want the oil..not the carbs.

CA: Good luck..keep us posted on your results...

I think it is crucial to monitor the coconut oil intake..The average person needs 3.5 Tbs. to equal the amount a newborn baby gets in human milk to keep healthy.. It's the same kind of fat..LOL..

And..one of my coconut books says to take 2-4 Tbs. for weight loss..SO..for some it might be 2 Tbs...others it might be 4 Tbs...I'm going to really watch it today..and do the 2 Tbs. to see what happens..I could never eat that many calories, unfortunately...So, ladies..it might be like adding carbs..start slow..see how it goes.. then if you start to gain, cut back..We want just enough to get the metabolism up..

Good luck...

I have a Coconut Cookbook..which has some salad dressings in it..I will post those recipes on these on the Coconut Recipe Thread on the Recipe Bulletin Board..They do mix it the coconut oil with the olive oil..so it will stay liquidy..

Morning all!

Well, classes are officially over but I still have one more research paper to write (20 pages - yikes!) so I'm trying to keep cooking low-key this week. I also found out that I'm eating a lot less protein than I thought I was because I'm measuring the meat raw rather than cooked. Yikes!

Menu for the day:
B: 2 eggs and 3 oz chicken sauted in 1 tbsp CO and some salt and curry powder, decaf with 2 tsp CM
L: 3 oz lean pork loin with 2 tsp LC "ketsup" (my own version - basically tomato paste mixed with red wine vinegar and some spices), 5 oz cut okra fried in 1 tbsp CO and chili powder
D: salad with CO/Olive Oil vinigrette, 4 oz salmon, 1/3 c. chopped grapes with 2 tbsp chopped mac nuts, decaf with 2 tsp CM

I think the CO is helping my skin a little - I noticed that my hands aren't as rough. Also, all die-off symptoms seem to be gone. No headaches or muscle pain.

As usual, I'll go back and read posts later.

Have a great day, all!

While coconut oil's direct effect on blood cholesterol has shown to be neutral, it may indirectly lower LFL and increase HDL..This is because it increases the metabolism
in the body. Because coconut oil stimulates metabolism, it actually protects against
high cholesterol..

Italian Dressing:

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
3 Tbs. water
Good seasons Italian dressing mix OR just use some
regular spices and make up your own..

Pour all ingredients into a screw-top jar..then shake..Let this sit at room temperature

Emily,
Almost 2 weeks, and no- it stalled me as soon as I started, and then I have been bouncing up and down and up in weight and inches since I started. But, most people are losing, so I think it's just me. Sucks, though, cause I just got 6 jars of it in the mail!! I will save it for maintenance, when I am not wanting to lose!

This recipe makes 3 servings, each w/1 tbsp each of CO.
514 calories, 3 carbs....for all three servings, so 1 carb each (depending on what brands of CO, cocoa, PB and shredded coconut you use). YMMV
