July 09 Texas Low Carbers

Hi, to all you Texans,

We are a Texas Low Carber group, who are planning on being "losers" who provide support, recipes, accountability to each other. Any low carb plan is welcome as we are a mixture of several. Feel free to post, no lectures, but we will give our suggestions if you ask. We try to start a new thread each month.

Welcome~

Welcome to July~

How is everybody doing? More importantly, how is everybody doing?

I have had a challenge of a allergies which made me very hoarse for a week, but am doing better.

As we all know about the Texas heat, I have kept my exercise to early in the am at or around 7pm, and am using a toning exercises to correct the areas that need work.

Talk to you later, hope everybody has a great July 4th planned.

Hi, Kate!

You seem to be at about the same place I am. I am just below 160, aiming for 150 as a first goal.

I'm following Atkins and working out with Wii EA Active. I'm about halfway through the Wii 30-day challenge. All is well, but I could use some accountability. Just knowing someone else knows seems to be a key.

Glad to meet some others from TX.

Thanks for keeping this going Cate! Just checking in here real quick - since I work nights and sleep 2 pm till 10 pm the 4th is a bad day for me - firecrackers almost always start ruining my sleep as soon as it gets dark. County under a burn ban and signs everywhere stating that fireworks aren't allowed - lets see how that goes. My eating going fine. I'll check back when I'm not in such a hurry! Hope everyone has a great weekend...Eileen

Hi, Liz and !
Glad you posted. It gets pretty quiey around here sometimes. I, too, need accountabilty as I can't seem to do this alone. I started out on Atkins,it is a good program, then switched over to Protein Power as I can spread my allotted carbs out, they have 30 for the minimum.
Congrats on the WiEA active.

We can do this together!

Eileen, so good to hear from you! God Bless, I used to work nights so I know how inconsiderate noisy folks can be when you have to sleep in the daytime.
Glad your eating is fine. We, too, have a fire ban, but I did hear a few pops last night for sure. Hope you can get some sleep.

Actually, I got on the scale today and was up 5 lbs! I feel so bloated, I know I have sucumbed to too much fruit and a few too many chips this week.
Once I decide to "just have a little bite", I get into trouble every time.

I am determined to lose this once and for all this year, so I am very back on track today. I have walked 35 minutes early this am, did a body flex toning tape, and callanetics to tone my abdomen.

Going to friends tonight, taking raw veggies, spinach dip, will eat my hamburger sans the bun, have included a cup of my friends potato salad into my carb amount today as I only eat it once a year.

Hope y'all have a great 4th.

Hugs,
Cate

Hi, fellow Texans.

Did great at the party yesterday. Ate just what I planned, my friend's potato salad was worth my "carb saving up" just to have. Scale today stayed the same.

Off to church this am, I brought regular muffins, (my turn to bring the goodies), but also some watermelon so I can have some.

Today, exercise it will be body flex tape, 30 minutes of Callanetics and continue on with 15 minutes or however long I can go on my mini-trampoline.

Have a great Sunday, all.

The potato salad sounds good Cate. I make some from time to time but use sweet potatos instead. I've even used them for scalloped potatoes. I've been eating way too many "little pieces" of this and that at work so last night I spent 5 minutes and 2 bucks and stopped and Wendys and got 2 junior bacon cheeseburgers. Well worth it. Stacked the burgers pretty much in between the lettuce and that with ice water took the edge off so I didn't snack at work. I did get my sleep yesterday - went to bed at noon and didn't hear a firecracker till after 9! Cate - I wish I had your self discipline to exercise! Though I have to say I do have a pretty labor intense job - my arms are pretty buff from lifting 40 lb buckets of icing and 50 pound cubes of donut fryer grease. I just really need to keep the "picking" under control - and it really doesn't even taste good...Talk to everyone soon - stay cool - talking about maybe some rain here for Monday and Tuesday!! Eileen

Oh, Eileen, I wish I had your will power to stay on plan!

Wow, you have weight work built right into your job, no wonder your arms look buff.

Great thinking on stopping at Wendy's. Whatever works to keep us on track.

Have a great day,so good to talk to you.

Hi Eileen and Cate. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Sounds like you did better than me the last few days. I pretty much let myself go over the holiday weekend figuring I'd dive back into LC goodness today. So far so good. (I indulged in rosemary potatoes, Klondike bars, and Swedish fish the prior 3 days, for example. Yikes!!)

If you check my stats, you'll see that I've been very successful doing LC, but I've sort of stalled. I waver between 157 and 161 month after month. I'm tired of losing and gaining the same 5 lbs over and over again. I figure it must be possible for me to move beyond this plateau and reach my initial goal of 150.

Thanks for listening. Have a great day.

Hey Texans!!

I just wanted to let those of you who live in the metroplex know that there is a bakery that makes low carb bread in Dallas! So those of you maintaining or in the upper rungs of your program may be happy to know that. I can have grilled cheese now, which is the ONLY time i eat lc bread... once a month or so.

Has anybody found a grocery store that carries some of the sugar alcohols? I miss HEB, i feel like HEB had everything i wanted, but there aren't any here.

Anyway, i'm still working on maintenance. My shoulder injury has reared its ugly head again, so exercise isn't happening. Going to make an appointment with the chiropractor ASAP, so i can get back to running!

Happy LCing!

Hi Liz. I was stuck for a while myself some time ago. Decided my problem was that I was getting so tired of the same old stuff over and over. Have you tried "mixing it up" a little bit? I love yogurt and used to eat the heck out of the stuff - well - I can barely get myself to eat it anymore. I've been trying to make sure I always have deli turkey and sliced cheese in the fridge. And I really need to get back on the water wagon. For the first couple of years I was diligent about drinking 64 oz daily and now I feel like I can barely choke it down...Hope everyone is well - actually saw some rain in Austin today! Eileen

Liz,
I, too, have been losing and gaining the same 5 lbs for the last two years. Lately, I have added some to it when I got frustrated. It is possible to move beyond the pleateau.

Eileen,
Great idea to "mix " things up. I get in a rut and tend to stay there. Since we have no frig in our office anymore, I have had to change my lunch plans as I carry it now in a cooler. You are so right about the water, I, too, need to drink more.

Well, off to study, see ya later.

3rd day back on plan, I'm cooking.

Chanty, Klondike bars are delish, but full fat and full carb. They consist of a hunk of vanilla ice cream encased in an extra thick chocolate shell. Then there are variations of this, like Reese's, Heath, Oreo. Too many yummy possibilities.

I was good all day, then the DH and kids talked me into making my homemade pizza. I make great pizza from scratch with custom toppings. I'm sure you can guess where that led tonight.

I need to drink lots more water. I've been getting hooked on coffee and diet soda again--bad habits. I'm going to try to limit myself to a cup or two in the AM, then stick with water. I also need to stock up and pre-cook my special food. If I don't, I end up eating the wrong things.

I'm ready to go after those last few pounds! I've gotten too comfortable since I'm starting to look pretty good, and I'm wearing my size 10's. I know I'm still not where I need to be.

Cate, what are you studying?

Here's to new beginnings and starting fresh tomorrow!

Hi. How are you Texans doing?

I'm recommitting to my 150 goal and plan to pursue it aggressively. I've taken up with a challenge group and hope to share some good news in the coming weeks. Anyone else fired up to lose?

Have a great rest of the day.

chantyl03, what is the bakery in Dallas that makes the LC bread? My sister lives there and if it isn't too far out of her way, maybe I can bribe errr... beg her to buy me a loaf and bring it here when she comes next time. We got some from Julian Bakery in CA and it rocks but it's so expensive! I'd love to find something a little more reasonable than $8 a loaf!

No kidding. I could hear a pin drop! How's everyone doing?

I've been doing well sticking to LC, but the weight isn't budging. Not sure why. Maybe the whoosh fairy will make a visit. (I know in the past that if I stuck to Atkins good things happened when least expected.)

Have a great day.

Hope everyone is doing well. Pretty good here. Was at Doc Tuesday with an infected finger. How what when where why - good question. Thought I had a splinter and couldn't find anything - by that night finger was swollen, hot and hard as a rock. Antibiotic for 3 days and seems to be fine. Have Nancy Elle's pizza crust in the oven as we speak - smells amazing as usual. Just felt like pizza. Cooled down a bit here in Austin. Maybe even some rain over the weekend! Going to cook a ham tomorrow cause I'm off tomorrow night. Trolling around looking for a side dish. Thinking maybe some scalloped sweet potatoes...Well - I'll check in soon and everyone have a safe weekend...Eileen

hi everyone! Add another Texan to the mix.
That bakery sounds good. I've been ordering my low-carb bread from California. It's more expensive and you have shipping charges. There aren't any options like the pizza crust either, so I can't wait to try it.
Chanty,
you can get Xylitol and Erythritol at Herb Mart at decent price. They have a Mesquite and Plano location. They discount everything.

Hello everyone. OK Annette - where is Red Oak? I'm thinking maybe in the DFW area? Not too much going on here. Just trying to stay cool. Doing fine with weight. We are having our company picnic Tuesday but there is plenty of "legal" food on the menu. Looking forward to the brisket! Starting to wind down to get to sleep a little early for work tonight - midnight till 8 am. Heating up some leftovers - baked ham and mashed rutebegas. Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend...Eileen

thanks for the welcome!
Red Oak is a wide spot in the road off 35E, north of Waxahachie. The good thing is just about anything you want to do is about an hour away. The bad thing is just about anything you want to do is an hour away including work.

Hi, welcome to Cookies for me and annette!

I missed y'all and I missed saying ya'll without everyone staring!

Annette, Red Oak, how great. I am in Midlothian.
Cookiesfor me, thanks for the info on the LC bread. Where in Ca is it?

Thanks for the LC bakery into, Chantyl03. I also heard Panerra bakery has limited LC bread, but I have never tried it.

Liz, Eileen, so good to hear from ya!

Liz, I am determined to lose the last bit of my weight also.

Eileen, god bless ya, hope your finger continues to get better.

I have been missing in action because of vacation to southern Colorado for the birth of our first grandchild! However, she is going to be late, so we had to leave yesterday! Guess, I will have to "see" her via photos untill son and DIL can travel here.

I didn't take my computer, in that part of the state wifi was hard to come by.

I can report that I have lost 2.8 lbs even if I wasn't able to stay low carb all the time!

I ate out, ate dinner at my DIL's parents, (all sticks) who can eat anything., so some of my meals I couldn't control, but the ones I could I did.

Well, got to go un pack and study again. Liz, getting my MSN I hope over the next two years.

Promise, I will check in more often. Gosh, I missed all the support while I was gone.

Hugs,

Slendercate
