Aussie, Aussie, Aussie ... May '09
Here's a new thread for us for May as the old one was getting sooo big.
How are you all doing? Hope you are on track and all big loosers .Last night I ate about 1/2 100g block of s/f pralene chocolate . So far no ill effects digestion wise which is good. Luckily I still have 3 days until I need to face the scale so hopefully any water will be gone by then. TOM made me do it well that's my excuse this time. No more excuses as I'm not buying that again! On a positive note I have kept my exercise committment to myself and managed to drag my butt out of bed in the cold at 5am this morning. I have now completed 3 HIIT (high intensity interval training) sessions since Saturday. I have dance class tonight and will get up early again tomorrow for some cardio or Yoga (haven't decided yet). I'm chomping at the bit to weigh-in and see what the results are, but won't sneak one in while TOM is visiting. Apart from the chocolate last night my food has been good so far this week. Even survived lunch at a restaurant with relatives on Sunday. Very glad I didn't pay for the $18 entre though - 6 green beans, 3 cherry tomatoes cut in 1/2, 3 or 4 pieces of soft cheese (don't know what sort), about 40g of lamb if that and some rocket on top. At least it was nice, and they had fresh limes so I had a voda, fresh lime & soda water (added a tiny bit of equal to take out the bitterness). I'm going to look for a purse size stevia so I can have that instead of resorting to aspartame next time. Anyway lunch break is definitely over so I'd better get back to work.

Thanks for starting off a new thread for us Ozdancer,, and well done on all that exercise, can't wait to hear how your weigh in goes
![]() Things are slowly, slowly getting back to normal at home now but I seem to have come down with some sort of flu (not swine I hope!!) an after effect of all the stress I think and have been feeling pretty crappy for the last few days, sadly it hasn't affected my appetite though!!!! I coudn't make our weigh in last Thursday and the other girls kindly put off going out for a meal so that I could go too so our final weigh in for this session is tomorrow evening and we will go out for a meal probably at the beginning of next week sometime.I think I've lost around 9/10ibs this session which isn't fantastic as it actually lasted 9 weeks this time around!! but I guess slow and steady is the way to go! I know its going to slow down the nearer I get to goal anyway. I will change my stats after tomorrow. Right I'm off to make some blueberrie muffins and some flax muffins for DH's lunches, hope everyone is doing well ![]()

Lorraine, sorry you're not well. As far as I know there are no cases of swine flu here yet so don't worry about that
(you didn't sneak away to south America last week? ). 10lbs is 10lbs and it's in the right direction. The last bit does take a while, maybe you could look at your calories as you will need less calories than you did at your top weight. Or increase your activity level to burn more calories. The other thing to remember is in the last few kgs you need to be figuring out your maintenance level so it will be even slower as you tweek and monitor to find the right levels. BTW I'd kill to be 141lbs .Didn't make it out of bed early this morning, too tired & too cold!! Seeing as I did my HIIT session yesterday morning & dance class last night, can I be forgiven? Am going late night shopping this afternoon and need to do some sewing tonight (so my pants don't fall off or trip me up!). If I have any energy left I will do some exercise before an early night. Need to be up early tomorrow for another HIIT session and am working tomorrow night (2nd job). Will check in again tomorrow most likely, unless there is some activity while I am at work today. Have a great one. |

Grrrrrrrrr,,, just been out with a friend, for coffee she said, yeah right,, the cow just sat in front of me and ate a beef burgundy pie
pre Atkins one of my favourite foods in the whole world , she was lucky I didn't drool all over it ![]() I was very good and just sat and drank black tea Its my birthday soon and I'm having terrible wicked thoughts of eating off plan for that one night,, what the??? someone please tell me its a bad idea!!! I know I should be thinking about maintenance soon, the trouble with being in our slimming group is that we have to set ourselves a mini goal for each 6 week session and then I get obsessed with making sure I lose at least that amount,, I think for this session I will put down something daft like 2lbs and then the pressure will be off! I have to go now and find some clothes that don't weigh much ready for tonights weigh in!!!! Have fun sewing Ozdancer and I'm sure a day with no excercise won't kill you ![]() |

Lorraine, is the one night worth the work to get back on track? You will be 3-4 days to get back into ketosis, plus the withdrawls and just the willpower to leave it at just one meal. Remember that maintenance doesn't mean you can eat anything you like. You need to find your tolerances which possibly won't include 'party food'
.Gotta go pick up DD and head to the shops. |

What a disappointing weigh in
6lbs lost in 9 weeks.I weighed myself at home on Monday and somehow by the time I weighed again last night I had gained 3lbs ![]() My eating has been pretty erratic for the last few weeks, quite a lot of missed meals and the meals that I have had have been getting a bit heavy on the cream, peanut butter and splenda so time for a proper review I think!I'm going to pare things back a bit, and stop the egg creams, I love them but I know deep down that they have too many carbs and calories for me right now. And, shock horror, I might even have a go on hubbys exercise bike if I can work out how to use it that is!!!!! |

hi all, after 3 weeks i have settled in to the low carb WOE and exercising everyday on the treadmill.
Finally seeing some results on the scales, from 80.3 down to 77.7. Very happy with that!! I found stevia tablets at the health food store and also some sugar free syrups, not da vinci. I still enjoy a sweet coffee. The kids are getting used to my food choices and are planning a low carb brunch for me on mothers day. Lorraine- its hard to stay to a reasonable calorie count. Low carb or not I don't lose weight consuming 2000+ calories. Nuts are my downfall cause I can't stop once I start. What peanut butter do you eat?? Have a good week everyone. Cheers, Cathy |

Lorraine, I know I sound cliched but a loss is a loss is a loss (and not a 6lb gain ). Also different scales will give different weights, maybe pick which one to believe (but you can't change your mind if the other one is better next time!). Good luck with the changes, I'm sure next weigh-in will be more positive for you.Cathy, congrats on 3 weeks and 2.6kg! WOO HOO. I bought some stevia drops last night, thought the liquid would work better for cold drinks (at home or out) as I'm not a coffee/tea drinker - just green tea unsweetened. What are the sugar-free syrups & what are they sweetened with? I have bought da vinci's before online, but am now avoiding aspartame & splenda where I can (still having s/f chocolate occassionally & atkins bars for convenience at times). I've only really used the syrups in cooking before which I want to avoid adding this time until much later on (too easy to overeat, slow or stall on). Cathy, I'm the same with nuts (cashews) and had a bag in the cupboard. I got some snack size zip-lock bags and weighed out 30g into each bag (about 10-12g carb I think). About once or twice a week I grab a bag and put it in my handbag or lunch box. I took one in my lunchbox yesterday but didn't even eat it - DD had it when I picked her up in the afternoon. This way I have a decent mouth & 1/2 full and can move on. If I put 9 nuts (Atkins recommended 5g serve) in a bag I'd feel silly and would be looking for more. Of course if you have almonds or macadamias then your serving size is a little bigger. I went looking at adjustable dumbbells last night as I want to add weigh training soon and ended up buying one on special. Might still wait a while to add this into my exercise as I've just finished my first week of HIIT training and haven't managed to also do the yoga & dance training, which are my prority long term (bellydancer in training). I'll report in tomorrow morning once I've weighed/measured in - fingers crossed the woosh fairy has visited (I've certainly been doing the work). Busy weekend for me so I might not be online much. Have a great one. |

Well done, thats brilliant Enjoy mothers day, I only have one son at home now and don't think he has a clue its mothers day on Sunday !!!I found natural peanut butter in Coles (they also do cashew and almond butters) and have been having it in my egg creams, I'm sure that accounts for the slow weight loss this time. Well, I think TOM is on his way which would explain the 3lbs, I say think because I'm pretty sure I'm pre menopausal (deep joy
) and good old TOM seems to be paying me an awful lot of visits lately!Definite spotting today and it would also explain the flu like symptoms of the last week, I normally only feel that way for day but this week it was more like 4 days. |

Lorraine, sorry you're having such a battle with TOM & pre-menopause while trying too lose weight. At least you have a reason and hopefully it won't take too long for your hormones to settle down.
Yes I would love to make a living from dancing and discovered bellydance about 6 years ago and fell in love with it. Weigh in today I'm down another 900g and 10.5cm. About the same weight as last week but more centimetres I think which is good. gotta get going this morning might check in later. |

CONGRATS Lorraine - WOOHOO!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() It is a little quiet on this thread ATM. We seem to have lost a few changing to a new thread. I've been keeping busy this week with adding in more exercise at night & on my mornings off from HIIT (OK only did I extra morning & missed the HIIT this morning too ).My food has been pretty good this week although having some s/f chocolate. I decided to stop taking snacks to work as I found I was eating them because they were there rather that because I was actually hungry. I'm finding I'm quite hungry when I get home (4:30) so need to get a decent snack organised. Made Oopie rolls this morning, they were in the oven when I left. Will see how they go with hubby & DD tonight - they are going to have mini-pizzas with them. I'm going to be home for about 20minutes to get showered, dressed & out the door for my 2nd job so have packed an Atkins bar and serve of cashews. May try to have an oopsie roll as I'm going out the door to tide me over. Have a busy weekend with DDs gymnastics Saturday morning, fabric shopping & hopefully starting to make the purse I've decided to make for Mum (belated mothers day pressie as I haven't seen her yet, they were away). Then I'm working Saturday night, markets Sunday morning & grocery shopping and more sewing. I've asked for Tuesday off work as there is a teachers strike in Qld so should be able to do more sewing then - is likely to be a time consuming job & I'll be seeing Mum next Saturday .So that's me up to date, sorry for the long post. How's everyone else doing? |

Wow, a busy weekend ahead for you Oz!!! I haven't tried the oopsie rolls yet, have you made them before? I really want to try them as I can't stand flax muffins
but they seem like hard work to me!Payday today so I'm going to buy a few bits and bobs tomorrow, desperately need some new boots and just seen an ad on tv that says Rivers are doing high boots for $33 ! also need something to wear next week as we are going to the city on Tuesday for dinner and to see Cirque de Soleil, really excited about that! will be going to the Blue Fire Grill for dinner, its great, they keep coming round with hige skewers of different meats which they carve onto your plate and you can have as much as you like, low carb heaven! then next Thursday we are going to see my son's graduation ceremony, so that will be a proud mummy night ![]() Have to start job hunting too, now my youngest has left home ( for various reasons he took up a lot of my time) I finally have the headspace to start thinking about it properly, I have a friend who is a life coach and she is going to give me some free sessions to help boost my (non existent!!) confidence as I have been out of the job market for a while now. Food has been really good this week, I have cut back on the carbs in small ways and it has made a huge difference, also found a long thread called "whats for dinner" on another low carb forum and have got some great ideas for meals, I do tend to get a bit stuck in a rut and can't wait to try some new ways of cooking the same old, same old! Have a great weekend Oz and I hope you can squeeze in a bit of "me" time ![]() |

Thanks Lorraine
, having a relatively quiet Sunday and yesterday was mad & long! What sort of work are you looking at doing? Full-time/casual? The bar work I do on the weekends is really easy and they don't need experience (they have lots of overseas students working there, so good english isn't always necessary either!). I'm sure there would be plenty of work like this in Melbourne for football (all sorts - rugby, NRL, NFL, Soccer) as there are lots more games in Melbourne than Brisbane. The work is fun, quick and easy. I found temping (for office work) was a good ease back into the workforce for me, you need a minimum of 40wpm typing speed and some general office skills (answering the phone etc.) and can get more skills/confidence as you go. Good luck what every you persue.![]() ![]() ![]() Happy dancing here, weigh in day yesterday - I've lost 1.9kg this week . I measured this morning as yesterday was too busy and I've lost 15cm this week too!! . Possibly some dehydration from yesterday? I know I didn't eat a lot of food yesterday, combination of busy & not hungry, also I walked forever last night trying to get home from work (1.9km milton to city + 1.7km holland park west to home) but I can't see how I've lost that much overnight (can't be fat I'm sure). Will see what the scale says next Saturday I think.I'd better go before hubby gets cranky to use the computer. Taking DD bike riding today as hubby has finally put the training wheels on here new bike. Take care everyone. |

Wow Ozdancer
thats an amazing loss We had a nice relaxing weekend, lots of dog walking and not a lot else really! I made a lovely sauce to have with dinner on Sat night, cream, capers and lemon rind, I also put in a small amount of cream cheese to thicken it up, it didn't taste chessy but boy it was good, poured it over pork chops and brocconi,,,yum! I think I'm too old for bar work Oz I will be 48 tomorrow (how the heck did that happen???!!!) No idea what I want to do really, I did some casual nursery work for a while but I hated having to go somewhere different every day. We have a brand new shopping centre being built on our doorstep, I can walk there in 5 mins so once thats open I will be over there every day scouting for work! I have a huge pile of ironing to wade through today and I'm going to make a blueberrie (low carb) cheesecake so I can have birthday cake tomorrow! Its freezing here today, wonder if its the cold that is making me so hungry at the moment? !Have a good day xx |

Welcome to Monday everyone.
Lorraine, sounds like a nice relaxing weekend. Don't be silly (too old ), my supervisor Saturday night was in his late 50s, early 60s. It's not hard work and they even don't really care in your english isn't fantastic. Working accross the road sounds great (home for lunch, no food court nightmare!). Good luck again with the job front. It was a bit warmer here this morning, made the 5am wake up a bit more bearable. Thank goodness I'm in Qld, not a fan of the cold. MMMMMMM LC Cheesecake! Shhhh, don't tell my hubby! He's asked if I will make one, but I've told him he needs to loose 10kg too before I'll think about it. At the rate he's going I'll be a goal by then . Might relent for our birthdays though in September (3days apart - only making 1 cheesecake). That gives me 4 months to make a serious dent in my weight loss (hmm I smell a mini goal in that, I wonder if 20kg from now is pushing it?). Anyway better get back to work I guess. Have tomorrow off work to look after DD as there is a teachers strike in Qld so need to get some extra work done today. Should get my sewing project finished provided the stuff I ordered on-line arrives today. I will have to figure out how to upload a picture when I'm finished, untill then that's all you're getting .Will probably check in tomorrow once hubby has gone to work. |

Hello
sorry not been around this week but its been a busy one!My birthday was fab, apart from my dinner, thought I had made a good low carb choice but the meal came with pumpkin which was smothered in honey I only had one bite but it was enough to give me a raging migraine I really enjoyed the cirque de soleil but having a raging headache took the shine off it.Thursday was ds's graduation,, very emotional (for me anyway!!) mind you the "supper" they provided afterwards was interesting, orange juice, pies and ketchup and little bits of bread with fake chicken on top we passed on that!!!I missed my weekly weigh in this week but my scales at home told me this morning that I am down another 2lbs, thats 4 gone in the last 2 weeks ![]() I've been really pushing the carbs lately too, I have always had one cup of tea a day with milk (its the Britishness in me!!) but the last couple of weeks I have gone up to 3 a day! have also been eating more frequently, ie evey 3/4 hours instead of trying to go 5/6 hours, seems to be working though! So how has everyone elses week been? Have you finished that purse yet Ozdancer?! can't wait to see a pic. Oh how could I forget,, the cheesecake!!! yum! hubby ate way more of it than I did, he also had it as a dessert whereas I had mine instead of a meal, but the jammy git still lost this week!! men ![]() |

Hi Lorraine, I decided I didn't feel like talking to myself this week so haven't re-posted on here for a few days.
Congrats on the weight loss and avoiding temptation, sorry about the migrane though. Darn restaurants! I was out for tea with friends last night and spent the weekend @ Mum & Dads so food wasn't 100% but very nearly. Had surf & turf for lunch yesterday and chinese for tea (I had chicken cashew, no rice just MSG/sugar in the sauce). Didn't seem to give me cravings which is good to know. I had to leave some cashews on the plate there were heaps of them in it. Bacon & egg for breaky today and Dads rack of lamb in mustard seed sauce with beans & pumpkin from his garden. There's a little corn flour in the sauce, but that's it. I finished the purse and gave it to Mum yesterday. The first coment was, "it's different" . She used it last night and got lots of positive comments which was good. Here are the pics:- ![]() Mum has some new purple swede boots that she also needs a bag to match and there's nothing she likes at the shops. I've said buy the fabric & I'll make another bag (different design most likely as she wants a bigger one. I've had a good few weeks weight loss adding another 1.8kg making a total loss to date of 14.3kg. Gotta go read to DD before bed. |

Oh wow, that bag is brilliant , you are so clever
!!! was it hard to make? did you use a pattern? And well done on MORE weight loss, you are doing so well ![]() I honestly don't worry about a few hidden carbs when we eat out, I am not staying in for the rest of my life and apart from last weeks headache I haven't had any problems, I've had Japanese and Indian before now with no problems. Yesterday I made chicken strips coated in egg then parmesan and fried,, yum! was very tasty but the house ponged a bit afterwards, ds (vegetarian) said the house smelled of vomit ![]() DH had to get up at 5.30am today, I don't mind but it makes for a long day and that usually means more food ![]() Will be having leftover chicken for lunch dipped in mayo, and for dinner pork chops with grilled asparagus drizzled with balsamic vinegar and feta crumbled over the top, a recipe I found last week. I am so enjoying finding new things to cook and hubby is enjoying it too! He's away in NZ for 4 days this week but he normally manages to stay reasonably on plan, at least staying in hotels you can always have a huge low carb brekky! Its very windy here this morning but my wee doggie doesn't understand so I'd better rug up and take him out! |

![]() Thanks Lorraine, I found really good instructions with pictures to make the pattern & bag here - U-handblog: Silk Pleated & Darted Purse of Prettiness Tutorial. I've never made a bag before and it wasn't too hard with the awsome instructions. As long as you have a basic understanding of sewing and know how to use a machine. I didn't brave the cold this morning. I didn't sleep very well last night, might have partly been due to the cat trying to sleep on my head all night . She kept waking me up and I kept chucking her off! So I need to do my HIIT exercise this afternoon when I get home instead.Bought a couple of new tops on the weekend - size L @ normally shops, so about a 16!! WOOHOO. I need to get the sewing machine working at the moment to take in pants & shirts so I can avoid having to spend a fortune on in-between sizes. Also bought new winter PJs as my old pair are had it & they were a size 16 from BigW. It's so nice to be able to get clothes in the normall shops & not have to loot at the big girls ones. I've also picked up a few new bras as my 18s are getting very loose now. Luckily I can pick up relatively cheap bras now rather than having to buy the wrong size cheaply or spend a fortune in underwear shops ($50+ bras are not in my budget!). I'm sure your dog is very greatful you braved the cold. Enjoy your 4 days sans hubby, you are lucky he is motivated for this WOE. I've been trying a few recipes, but also sticking with the tried & true we know & love. Actually been pretty basic meat & veg lately which might be helping with the weight loss (less calories when you don't have cream sauces on everything ). Just polished off 2 HB eggs for a late breakie, taco salad for lunch today and no idea what's for dinner. Hubby is sick (dying from laryngitis ) so probably won't want much. Haven't done any grocery shopping over the weekend so not sure what I still have at home. Better get back to work, or look more like I'm actually doing some. |

oooh I might have a go myself,, we have a market on our estate once a month, can just see me standing there selling bags ![]() Thats fantastic about the clothes Oz Actually, I have upped my cream and cream cheese consumption and the weight is still coming off, am working on trying to cut down a bit on protein but not doing very well will try a bit harder if the scale stops moving!I feel very bloated today, I did have half a sweet potato yesterday so that may be why. Hows the weather where you are? have you had all the rain and floods? |

Lorraine, I've been looking at more patterns today. Found a really great one here:- Lazy Girl | Blog Free Purse Pattern: Noriko Handbag and a good everyday bag one here:- Made By Rae: (Free!) Buttercup Bag Sewing Pattern. If you search (google or flicker) there are tones of great examples of buttercup bags & also some variations too. I'm excited to try another bag now.
Great that the extra fats are helping with the weight loss. You just keep doing what works and when it stops working reassess. We've had lots of rain, but thankfully no flooding. This afternoon is actually sunny, go figure. Might be able to wash & dry some towels & sheets - WOOHOO. hehehe . At least it's not a cold here as in your neck of the woods. My sister is in Hobart and has bought her first pair of thermals, although hasn't needed them just yet apparently. |

We're not quite as cold as Hobart! in fact all last week we were in the low 20's, perfect! Its just that I have got in the habit of dog walking as soon as I am dressed, which is normally before it warms up!!!
I'm loving all these bag patterns, I don't have a sewing machine but my neighbour does! Have been up since 5.30 again today as hubby had to get to the airport. Today I am going to make a big pot of creamy chicken soup, if I can get away with cooking I will so that will keep me going for the next couple of days! I had the munchies yesterday and ate a lot but nothing seemed to hit the spot so I guess TOM is on his way, again !!!!Right, I'm off for my egg and bacon have a good day xx |
