DC Peeps

Anyone in DC thinking about joining a gym this year?? My new years resolution is to kick up my workout plan. I saw on the Washington Sports Clubs website that they're offering a 20.08 sign up fee this month. That's pretty nice since they're usually much higher. Anyone else have fitness goals for the new year?

Hi! I'm so happy to see someone else from DC.

I belong to the Sport & Health Club near Tenleytown. I've been a member for over a year and I like it. The best part is that it's walking distance from my house, so I have no excuse not to go! (I tried the Washington Sports Club a couple of years ago and liked it, but it wasn't as close to home.)

My fitness goal for 2008 is primarily to tone and firm up. I just started taking a Muscle Up class, which is tough and really kicked my butt last night, but I think it will help a lot, so I'm committed to going twice a week. This is in addition to doing my own thing at the gym (elliptical, bike, etc.).

Where do you live in DC? It would be a great to have a local LC pal!

Jillian

Hi Jillian-- you have some great goals for yourself! I am primarily focusing on adding muscle and toning as well. I live around Glover Park, and there's a WSC right down the street from me. There's also another one close to my work, so I figured it would be easy to get workouts in. They are having a 2 week trial for $19.99, (available through the website) so I was thinking about checking that out too. How much is the start up fee at Sport and Health if you dont mind me asking?

Hi again... Glover Park is so close! I have a good friend who belongs to the WSC on Wisconsin Ave in Glover Park, probably the same one you're talking about. She really likes it.

I got an email from Sport & Health that tomorrow is "National Resolution Day" (I love it!), so they have some specials going on. If you're interested in checking it out with me, let me know -- it's a free day of fitness for friends of members. I'll be going to the one on Brandywine in the early evening. Of course, you can also go to any location on your own and check it out. For tomorrow, they have a zero enrollment fee. I don't know what it is normally. When I joined a couple of years ago, they had a special and I don't even remember what I paid.

Of course, location is pivotal, so you should pick the club that's most convenient. Then you're much more likely to go!

Let me know what you decide to do. I hope we can meet up at some point to cheer each other on.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I really do like the how close WSC is, and the many locations throughout the city. I may just try the two week trial to see what I think. Anyway, I'll see you around-- good luck this year!!

So did you sign up at WSC and if so, how do you like it?

I made it to the gym this morning for a moderate workout, then have my Muscle Up class tonight.

Try to stay warm!
