great brooklyn low-carb usable eateries

the great place for low carb dining out are diners. the people will almost always make any substitution, addition, subtraction of food. 2 diners which i frequent most often are the MIRAGE on Kings Hwy & E 8th St. Also the FOUSOME on Ave U & Gerritsen . I also go to McDonalds for the Grilled Chicken Caesar salad, or the Angus Burger. I just toss the bun. sometimes I bring my own low carb bread.(if George Costanza can bring cucumber to augment his salad at Monks Diner, then I can bring my own bread) Truly, we are limited only by our own imaginations. Mine has no limit. I would love to hear from from low carbing Brooklynites as well as those further afield. It would be really great if we can all meet one sunday afternoon at a nice Brooklyn eatery during the Holiday season. Love & Profits FLATFERENGHI

sad, sad, sad

I just received word from a friend that the FOURSOME DINER on Ave U & Gerritsen Ave has closed its doors for good. No reason given, just a thank you. It was a great diner, great food, great portions, & reasonable prices. Also, excellent coffee. This is a loss to the whole community, not only to low carbers. I shall have to look further afield for a diner like that one. My friend Beverly at work says that it is most probably the rents. That is logical. the rents on commercial property are rising exponentially. who can stay in business these days. Not even we Ferenghi would charge rents to that degree. it must be the work of the Orion syndicate. I will get back next week , hopefully with better lowcarb friendly Brooklyn eateries. MET FRESH

I discovered a new supermarket in Brooklyn. E 15th
st. around the corner from Kings Hwy. It has only been open for 2 weeks. It looks very clean & has a great produce dept. I didn't see any Atkins bars, or
Victoria Marinara sauce, though, so I will still have to use Shoprite. I still look forward to the day when some us low carbers can share a meal at a Brooklyn eatery. I think after the holidays, would be great time. In any case, it's something to think about. I would love to get some feedback!!! Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI.

updating Brooklyn eatery news

THE EMPIRE KING BUFFET on Nostrand Ave & Ave Z is no more. However the FOURSOME DINER formerly located on Ave U & Gerritsen Ave, will be taking it over. I hope they are ready for business for my birthday (next month). I hope there will be no changes. I liked it just the way it was. I would love to hear from more NEW YORK low carbers, and of course Brooklynites. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI.

Hiya'!

I just found this thread.

I live in Queens, but my ex was a long-time Canarsie-ite, and I know of most of the places you mentioned, up 'til about 2000. I've lost track.

I was shocked you said the Four Horsemen Diner was closing; and then gladdened it was reopening... but saddened about the Chinese Buffet.
I hung out in the Canarsie/Kings Plaza area from about '92 - 2000 - it's amazing how many changes. The first biggie I remember was them closing the Seaview Diner we always went to, on the corner of Seaview ave and Rockaway Pkwy.

My ex used to have a motorcycle repair shop on Avenue D - he had to go because of rents (which were still way cheaper than his original location in Howard Beach).

I agree that eating-wise, you can find anything you want in diners - or they'll alter them to suit you.

Thanks for responding!!!

Actually, it was the FOURSOME DINER. I believe, currently, they are in the process of moving in. During one of my walks, probably Monday, i will ambulate over there to check their progress. There are other buffets, at least for the time being. But, the one near my place of Employ also folded. I think the fast food chains are all that will be left eventually. Incidentally, the best sliced roast pork in Brooklyn is the Peking Kitchen Ave M at E 18th ST. Take-out only. One of the by-products of my walks, is I make notes of places that i might like to try. So lets have another round of fave eateries in Bklyn and the other 4 boros as well. LOVE & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

I hope the prices did not go up...

I had a small accident, nothing major, so i could not do my walk last weekend. I hope I will be able to check it out this weekend. I wonder if there are any NYC low-carbers who will be competing in the AMERICAN IDOL 7th season. I would try just for my 15 seconds of fame. The fact that I am too old, or that my chief musical interest is opera would not deter me. If there is an 8th season, I may bloody well try, if they audition in the BIG APPLE.

what would it take ....

for a Brooklyn low-carb get together, or a NYC low carb get-together. the best meeing place would be a nice diner (for lunch)then we can all walk and talk. Let us get organized before i turn old and gray. (well, it is too late for that/ How about: before I get to goal weight/have about another 125 lbs to go) I know how to behave in public. Let me hear from all 5 boro people, especially Brooklyn. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

THE FERENGHI ADMITS DEFEAT!!!

It looks as if i will be lunching alone and walking alone for the foreseeable future. I have met apathy on the field of battle and i am his. I will no longer keep this local locarb thread alive re: Bklyn & the 5 boros. FAREWELL. FLATFERENGHI
