Hi there moonchild and yoshi. Good to meet you both. I am on the south side of OKC. Off SW 104th & Penn. We used to have a place in Eufaula, Yoshi. Sold it because all we ever did was go over there and work on it, lol. Do you ever get to OKC?
Where in OKC are you at moonchild?
What parts of the boards do you guys post on? How are you doing on your low carb plans?
I used to do Kimkins, switched over to Atkins after losing around 40 lbs, but now just trying to maintain my loss and heal my metabolism. I'd like to lose another 15 lbs still.

Hi there! I lived in OKC for almost 25 years, moved to New Mexico and Colorado for a total of 7 years and am now back in Oklahoma. I live about 25 miles northeast of Enid. Anyone nearby?
lindaokc, I have seen your photo avatar before and thought how familiar that you looked. I used to live in the far northwest part of OKC, and I worked at Council Road Baptist Church for four years. Anything ring a bell?
My first name is Glenda; LaRae is my middle name.

Hi LaRae, glad to meet you. No, nothing sounds familiar, although we used to live on the Northside, off Rockwell & Hefner Road for about 5 yrs.
I've been told I look like others before, so maybe that's all it is.
I have a stop smoking buddy who lived in Enid. She's in the national guard and in Iraq right now, but she's due to come home this month, returning to Enid. I got to know her through a stop smoking site, Quit Smoking All Together with QuitNet.com - Stop Smoking Help and Cessation Support . She used to have to come through OKC and we'd have lunch.
So, do you like Enid as well or better than OKC? I've not been to Enid before.
It's exciting to know that this many people are all low carbing in Oklahoma. I know another lady in OKC that is low carbing, her tag is Kona Sunset. She was at kimkins when I was there. I will send her over to say hi to you ladies.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, OKLAHOMA!! 1907 - 2007 100 YEARS OLD TODAY!!

Hello to all Oklahoma Low-Carbers!

lindaokc, I lived in the Rockwell and Northwest Highway area for a long time. I now live in Hunter, actually, about 25 miles northeast of Enid. I do like Enid; it's a good size, but not too big. Of course, we moved back to Oklahoma because of family, and we liked the people of Oklahoma! It's home!

Hey fellow Okies

Sorry, y'all. I went to Eastern Oklahoma over the weekend. My 15 year old nephew's HS football team was in playoff's but they lost Friday night. It was a good game though!!!

Oddly enough, girls, I live near 122nd and Council now, in far NW OKC. I've been here in OKC since 1976, but I grew up in Heavener, OK.

Linda, I am really sort of on my own low carb thing. Basically it is Atkins, but I didn't do the induction because I just feel sooooooooo bad. I am losing weight...VERY VERY SLOWLY...but you know, at least the scales are not going UP!!! I'd LIKE to do induction because I think I could really kick start the weight loss.

I am doing the same thing. I have been on low-carb since June 13th, and as of today, I have lost 20lbs. I didn't really do induction, either, and I am thinking of doing it to drop some more weight. I agree, at least I am losing, and I do feel this is healthy. The best thing is the appetite control! No more looking in all of the cabinets trying to find something to eat, or eating a big meal, then wanting something sweet even though I am stuffed! DH and I feel better. So, when I read about so many others dropping lots of weight, I am jealous, but, for whatever reason, be it meds, age, or just our metabolism, etc., we ARE losing, so I'll take it!

Did any of you watch all of the Oklahoma Centennial Celebrations? I thought everything was wonderful and well done!

Good morning, ladies.
Well, I didn't watch the celebrations. We spent most of the time over at DS house for my birthday, I share the birthday w/ Oklahoma, just not quite as old, lol. I turned the big 62 this year, so now I'm legal for SS Dont' know quite how this happened so quickly, lol.
Moonchild, are you saying that you felt so bad doing induction?? That surprises me. Most people feel better and have more energy after the first couple of days, but I have heard others say ketosis made them feel bad. Sure hate to hear it. Are you eating more carbs, kinda like a South Beach or Protein Power diet?
LaRae, congrats on losing your weight, whether is quickly or slowly. I'm like you and like the quick loss, but the slower loss is supposed to be better for us. At my age, slower is where it's at, lol.
I lost my weight quickly w/ kimkins, then reached a stall, heard all the bad stuff about it, so started Atkins, eating more fat, more protein, keeping the carbs low. I've been trying to heal my metabolism for the past 3 or 4 mo, since I didn't seem to be able to eat much w/o gaining. I think it's healed now, since I can eat alot more than I could when I stopped kimkins and started Atkins. Not as much as I'd like, but still, alot more calories than I could consume on Kimkins. I tried to maintain between 155-160 and I've been able to do that so far. Sometimes I get to the 160 mark and it scares me to death, lol.
Thinking of trying to drop more weight after Thanksgiving. Slowly this time, so as not to damage my metabolism again. We have a trip we are planning the day after Christmas and I have some new clothes I'd like to wear that dont' feel very comfortable right now. Thought maybe I'd try to lose it between thanksgiving and Christmas? Not very long, I know.
Well, better get off here and get busy. I'm the cook on Thanksgiving, (I always am, lol) DIL's are all bringing dishes too. What are you guys planning for Thanksgiving?

What's the playground?

Never heard of that! Linda, to answer your question about feeling bad, I had extreme leg cramps every time I ever tried induction. I took the potassium, drank the water, all that. I am very, VERY low carb. I have completely eliminated all flour and grains from my diet because my blood sugar would drop so fast I was having to sleep in my car at work A LOT!!! That's not good!!! I know I can't handle the carbs. I eat mostly meat and veg, nuts, heavy cream, etc. I'm just not counting the carbs specifically, but rather choosing from low carb food choices and knowing that if I eat too many carbs at one meal (which is not many, by the way) I will suffer the consequences and have to go to sleep. So feeling good is more my motivation right now that weight loss even though I desperately need to lose weight. I am content with slow. I gained it slow...I expect to lose it slow.

Moonchild, the playground is another forum on the board under "Off Topic". I've seen it but dont' go there much.
I used to get the leg cramps also, especially on kimkins, but I dont' get them much anymore. Somebody told me to take some magnesium and I dont' know if that did it or potassium or ?? but at least I dont' suffer w/ them anymore. They were awful while I had them, dont' wanna go back there.
Tooo cool that you ladies live so close together. I love finding more and more around here that are low carbing.
Sorry that you have such a bad time w/ carbs, Moonchild, but glad you have it under control. When I eat carbs, I just want more of them. Vicious cycle.
Hi there, Joy, so good to meet you. You have certainly been around here awhile. I started in 2004 (I think) but didn't post much, if at all, until this year. I am having fun posting now. Making up for lost time.

Well, ya know, a post generally has to involve cats to REALLY attract my attention! All the cat posts are on the playground. The actual cat is maneuvering around on my keyboard . . .

Linda, glad you found your way to a gentler WOE. The closest I ever did to that was Stillman's for a few weeks a couple of years ago . . . and that was HARD. No more of that for me, either. It wasn't just the being hungry; it was the insomnia! Awful.

So, ladies, what are some of your best low carb success tips? What keeps you going? I guess one of my best tips (for me, anyway) is that when the cookies or doughnuts or whatever is in front of me starts calling my name, I can be pretty certain that I haven't had a good protein/fat snack in too long. I know that I can eat the junk, and feel TERRIBLE...or eat a low carb snack with protein and fat and the desire for the offending junk food will go away. I have to feed my body at least every 4 hours or I go into crazy mode!

Hmmmm, my best low carb tips? I guess my best tip is just to keep the junk out of my house. Hubby has diabetes, so we've been low carbing for a long time. When I quit smoking however, I would sneak junk into the house and keep it put away so it wouldn't tempt him. I have NO willpower, so the most important thing for me to do is keep the house clean (food) so there is nothing I cannot have.
I'm blessed that I no longer work, so I'm not tempted by those things that everybody seems to bring into the office.
I keep trying to find new recipes/things to eat/fix. I can get into a rut quickly. On the other hand, I have to be careful about getting into the frankenfoods. I am trying to eat clean and stay away from them this time. They always stalled me before (sugar free candy, Atkins bars, S. Beach bars, Dreamfields, etc) or helped me gain weight. Trying to stay as far away from artificial sweeteners as I can (sometimes I don't make it ) Working on getting healthier.

Hubby and I will be eating Thanksgiving meal at Hometown Buffet, I guess. No one in town this year. I am going to make pumpkin pies without crust. I make the recipe just like on the back of the can except I use splenda and whole cream diluted with a little water instead of the evaporated milk. Then I can have whole whipped cream on top with splenda. Pumpkin pie is the main thing I miss from Thanksgiving and since I'm low carbing I'm enjoying it more than just holidays. I normally leave off the whipped topping though. For sure I have to stay away from Cool Whip. That is addicting!!! What are you guys going to do to handle the holidays and stay low carb?

DH and I are driving down to Edmond to be with his parents at a retirement community, and we are meeting DH's brother and wife from Tennessee there. We will just eat what we can from the buffet, and I am taking two desserts and some snacks to get us by for the day. Then, on Friday, I am going to make us a low-carb Thanksgiving meal. I have it all planned out, and it will be so good! We eat well!

Thank you, Joy. I am enjoying Atkins right now and hoping that since my metabolism has healed I can continue to lose the rest of my weight, maybe after Christmas, or maybe some before Christmas? lol. I've thought of going to Stillmans just for a couple of weeks, but been thinking about doing it for a long time and just haven't yet.
I am the matriarch in our family and do all the cooking, so everybody will pile in to our house on Thursday. I have 3 sons and their families, so the DIL's will all bring side dishes and I will make the desserts, turkey & dressing, mac & cheese, cauliflower & cheese, hot rolls, salad, etc. I'm always pooped when the cooking is over and it only takes 15 minutes to eat it :/
I am going to make a low carb dinner roll for hubby & me that I got from the recipe help section. Called "LC Pita bread experiment" and everybody is raving about it. Gotta give it a try. Also, I make the recipe on the back of Libby's pumpkin pie, also subbing splenda & cream and bake it w/o a crust. Too yummy. Also gonna make some cream cheese muffins to snack on. Might make the mac & cheese w/ dreamfields, dunno....still mulling it over.
Of course, I'm still having some mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy. It's only one meal and we ship all the rest home w/ the kids.
Also, down 1 lb this morning to 154, so I'm tickled about that and not too worried about Thanksgiving. A combo of high & low carb dishes.

OKLAHOMAOKLAHOMAOKLAHOMA! Remember Steve Martin? LOL Love that movie.

I'm from Okla. I've live in San Fran. for over 8 yrs. now. I was in Phoenix for 4 yrs. before that, and NYC for a few years. After all this time I've lost most of my accent.

I was raised in Moore till 10 yrs. old, then Midwest City till I was married. After we got married we moved to 63rd, between McArthur and Meridian. I worked at Baptist Hospital in the insurance dept. (Although I know they changed the name of the hospital, didn't they?)

We lived there during the fed. bldg. bombing and moved right after that.

I got such a kick out of reading where y'all are from and remembering my youth!

Hey, Kattbelly! I sure do remember the Steve Martin movie. That is one hysterical movie. I guess my favorite scene is where Michael Caine is whacking the daylights outta Steve Martin's legs while he tries to maintain his image that he is paralyzed and can't feel a thing in his legs. OMG!! Makes me wanna watch it again. Girl, I have never been to SF. DH and I are planning to come there next November to celebrate our 5th anniversary as he has never been there either. You can probably give me heads up as to what i must see, where I must eat, and where I definitely should not waste my time!!!

Guess everyone got busy with Thanksgiving and now on to Christmas. How did you guys fare through the festivities? I ate tons of the crustless pumpkin pie with whipped cream and I still lost a pound!!! Gotta love Atkins!

Linda, how did the pita bread turn out?

The buns I made w/ the pita bread recipe turned out divine. You couldn't tell them from regular yeast rolls. I only made one batch for Thanksgiving, since I have portion control problems w/ hot rolls. I'm going to make them for Christmas also.
Kevinpa has a version using carbquick also, but I didn't care for those.
Dangerous to have all the time, but for special occasions, they are the best !!!

I did good getting through Thanksgiving, but this week I've been to carb city and it's showing. I'm back up to 159, so now I guess I'll spend the rest of the time trying to lose what I gained before Christmas.
Wish I knew how to stop emotional eating.

Hope everyone else is doing OK.
