Has anyone seen the view count on this thread? Who would think that a thousand people would even care to read our grunts and complaints?

I haven't much to whinge about today other than I could really use just ten minutes alone. I seriously told the kids that mama needed a ten minute time out in her room. They are driving me bonkers today for some reason. it's me though, probably hormonal, because they really aren't doing anything out of the ordinary. Well, I laid down on my bed to just meditate for a few minutes and who shows up but--Annoying Neighbour Boy. No rest for the wicked.

I let him stay awhile, he is going away for a few days so I'll get some peace then!

Why is it that when one thing goes wrong everything does?

First my dishwasher stopped working on Thursday, while 6 of us were here. Then the power points failed in two rooms yesterday. Then no hot water in the kitchen where I was still having to wash up by hand. Okay again the next day??

Then a phone call this morning from London to tell me that the power ring there had failed, meaning that my freezer may have defrosted. Thank God my cleaner who only comes in once a week for an hour spotted it and phoned us.

Oh and my mobile phone charger has gone missing and the one in the car isn't working for some bizarre reason!!!!!

The dishwasher has been fixed thank goodness.

Grrrrr

I thought about whingeing about the heat today - 44C with about 75%humidity - that was at 7:30 this morning. But then started looking at the flooding in the UK and decided I'll take the heat. I mean, we got A/C right?

I know it's awful! I've heard from my sister and she's fine, they had a couple of power cuts and their water was getting low but otherwise, relief all round, whew!!

Okay, Kissa. You WIN the worst whinge contest!

Geez, that is just awful. Things really do break all at once too. We have fairies here who break stuff, but no gremlins.

I've seen all the flooding on telly here. What a nightmare, my heart goes out to all those affected.

OOO Sick! Too sweet I could never stand and after 6 years of Atkins it really turns my stomach.

My whinge was impressive wasn't it? I couldn't quite believe it as it all unfolded. BUT like everyone said, I am SO lucky not to be in those awful floods.

I remember that during the dreadful New Orleans floods feeling somewha t complacent and even (I am so sorry) critical. Thinking to myself that we would never let something like that happen here. I feel so ashamed now. Then I think what it must be like to live somewhere like Bangladesh and I feel so humble and thankful.

But that said Maryam, having grown up in Kuwait and lived for years in Oman....just a little of your heat would be really nice.

I know what you mean. When I was in Guatemala, the people were just lovely, but what a difference between classes. Such disparity, you see big mansions of houses and only a few miles away, people living in small tin shacks w/ dirt floors.

I felt so guilty when I was told that the daily wage for most people was $3. I still haggled in the market, but always passed coins out to the kids. I figured even if they were scamming me, the money was nothing to me compared to what it would buy them.

Ooops, forgot to post my whinge! When I ordered my countertops, nobody mentioned the place goes on holidays this week. so when mama comes to visit, they won't be fitted yet. Good thing they are staying a month and i have a small, but at least working kitchen in the older part of the house.

I wish I could send all of you some of this heat. This is the time of year when it is simply OPRESSIVE!!!! But you all can keep your crappy UK weather!

OK, my whinge for the day - Last night BF and I went to the Pub for Karaoke night. I had my 2 pints of Guiness () instead of cider! BF always likes to sing Bob Marley songs so when his turn came he got on stage and I went and stood at the edge of the stage. We left our drinks, his cigarettes and my jacket on our stools at the bar. When we got back to our places, there were these (Kissa you may know this expression) ZALAMAS sitting in our seats! They were stood by us when BF went to sing so the KNEW we were there. It was obvious we hadn't left - our stuff was all still there. But there they sat! I went to them and said Excuse me, you've taken our seats. They just gave me this "F*** Off look. So I said again Excuse me but you've taken our seats. Can you move? Again with the LOOK. Then one of them says to me "say PLEASE"! So I rolled my eyes and said Please. He got up but the guy on my stool just sat there. I said to him, can you move PLEASE. You know what he says? "What's your name?" So I said "Ask my husband what my name is and get off my stool"! By this time BF is arguing with the guy who was sitting on his stool. The guy is about half a foot taller and 30Kgs bigger than BF but BF is gonna kick his butt, right. The big Zalama backed down and they left. I asked BF what that was all about. He said he just asked the guy why he was so rude to me instead of just moving cause they KNEW it was our seats. You know what the guy said to him? "I'm Palestinian, what are you gonna do about it?" Can you imagine!? Like being Palestinian is something to be so proud of! So after that we just went home. Now I'm tired and headachy and SOOOOOOO don't wanna be at work! And that's my whinge!

The water is the most desperate thing as she has small children. The army are exceptional and acted very quickly, there are tanker deliveries of water and her power is on now so she can cook and boil water. She is one of the lucky ones as she hasn't had to leave her home! It reminds me of the drought when I was little and we had stand pipes for our water, we also had to put a brick in the loo cistern.

It's still raining on and off but the water is slowly receeding thank goodness! The clean up will take a while. 1 in 4 people have no contents insurance OMG, that is devastating. She was pretty quick off the mark with buying in bottled water and filling the bath . . . clever girl. She takes after me, I have a store cupboard with emergency provisions and even have a still, (for . . . just in case!!) I was a brownie when I was little and I like to be prepared!! It does help that she used to be in the army and her husband still is!!
