Low carb store in DC/MD/VA?
Hi,
I am a new poster here (longtime reader), so forgive me if my question is not appropriate. I am wondering if there is a low carb store anywhere in the dc metro area. I am looking for a brick and mortar store, (not online). I don't necessarily need a name if that is not permitted, but maybe some search tips. I've googled low carb store in my area 1000 times and only find online stores. (Even eliminating online in the allowable words doesn't work.) Maybe they just don't exist anymore! Any suggestions? Thank you! Joanna |

It is harder to find the brick and mortar stores anymore. There had been one around here for years, and then the craze hit and they went into a rapid expansion. Now they are gone. *sigh* So I get what I can at the health food stores, the grocery stores and Trader Joe's; the rest I either order online or do without.
Good luck in your search, though. |

Joanna,
I live in DC in AU Park. I can get almost anything I need at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and the YES health food store in Cleveland Park. But one day last month I was in Rockville picking up spa supplies and saw a brand new "low carb" store in the same shopping center. It's called like "Whoa... That's Lo!" It's small, but probably just what you're looking for. The address is 5050-D Nicholson Lane. If you know Rockville, it's a right onto Nicholson Lane when you're heading north on Rockville Pike (right after White Flint). It's in the same shopping center as Hydro Pool & Spa and the Ritz Consignment Shop. Phone is (301) 231-0007. Jillian

Don't know about your neck of the woods but around where I live all the low carb stores have closed. A few years ago when they were around, you could even get a lot of product from the reg. grocery stores. Not so much these days.
I've ordered from the sponsor of this web site - Netrition.com - and have been extremely pleased. Reasonable shipping and quick too. Great customer service if you have a need. |

I'm in Old Town, Alexandria, and the little mom-n-pop health food stores are my sources for more unusual ingredients, like inulin, but otherwise Whole Foods has become the primary source (shirataki noodles!). I order a lot from Netrition because no matter how much you order it's only 4.95 shipping and gets here two days after placing an order. Giant and Safeway have added some more mainstream items like flaxmeal and Heinz 1-carb, so it's a matter of looking around and seeing who has what.

My mom lives in Mont County, there use to be one on Rockville Pike she use to go to, I think the store was called Hold the Carbs. Not sure if it's still there or not though, but you could check the yellow pages.
