UK/Europe - Clothes dilemma??
I have a bit of a dilemma . . .
I'm going to an exhibition, which is great and I'm really excited, I've worked for this company for 10 years, it's the biggest date in our calendar . . . and it's the first time I've been asked to go. The dilemma is that I'm between sizes and need to buy clothes, we're talking three days of evening/dinner wear and suits etc. for day wear. My budget isn't that big but if I'm clever with mixing and matching I think I can do it for £100. I hate to say this because I advocate slow weight loss but should I try to lose weight to the next size, I think probably 7lbs should do it. I have 4 weeks to go and will shop the weekend before. If I do it, what do you think would be a good healthy way? I eat between 20-30 carbs and 1500-2000 cals per day. I'm so excited I can't think straight, help!! lou-bi x

i see your dilemma
the problem is of course u could lose the 7lbs from the all the wrong areas and not go down a size but if u relly want to lose quick u could try kimkins or Kimmers experiment for a couple weeks that will make it drop fast.... the other way would be try and tone what u got a bit tighter.. havent u got anyone u could clothes swap with for a few days so it doesnt cost too much?? HTH x |

Thanks for that but I don't do drastic, I love to eat.
I think you could have something in the toning idea, that might work alongside eating cleanly and drinking nothing but water. It didn't even occur to me that I might not lose in the right places, although it makes perfect sense. After losing big say 7lbs my body always takes time to adjust and reshape, in my excitement I forgot That's why I asked really, I knew you'd keep me straight. Any other ideas gratefully received Ta. |

kimkins isnt too drastic.. basically u cut your fats down so your calories reduce as well as your carbs
i do think toning is probably the way to go tho cos u will reap longterm benefits hey another thouht get elasticated things then it wont matter if u do lose again the elastic will tighten up.... or raid your mates wardrobes lol xx |

You're my mates . . . there's no-one to borrow from, I'm afraid . . .
I could cut fats, 65% of my diet is good fats, I can always add them back in later . . .what a great idea! I'll read about it first. I never thought I'd say this but I don't want to wear elastic ever again (stamps feet in a comic way) but thanks for the suggestion (hides head in shame at own behaviour)Great ideas. ![]() |

awww ta we like being your mates.. not sure i got anything in me wardrobe for u tho as i dont do suits etc sowwwyy
lol i know what u mean about the elastic tho i do confess to having a couple of summer skirts that are elasticated waists.. i keep them cos they are really pretty oh and cos i have a slimmer waist compared to my childbearing hips lol kimkins basically requires u to eat lean meat, low fat, low cal.. yes i know its completely alien to us but it sure works for a quick fix as u say u can always add back later so where u going, what u doing,, are we talking long evening wear.. i want details woman and hurry up cos i got to get off here and cook soon lol x

It's a Hilton hotel in Birmingham (3 nights) and all of the managers are going
not long evening dress, just smart, (I have to be a laydeeee) so I could wear my suit trousers and wear a really nice top. Perhaps a touch of make-up . . . |

Thread jack ....can I get you to get me something while you are there?
Get the basics...black pants, skirt, and tops that can be changed out. Or get something that can be taken up easy. How does that sound? I thought that said at first I am going to be an exhibition. HeeHee |

If you're still looking, are you appalled at the thought of a charity shop? I get 99% of my clothes from them and love it - I wear stuff I would never be able to afford if I bought it new. Just a thought!

I love charity shops too.
When I lived in Oman I had to go to loads of functions and saw a lot the same people at them. Once a week I worked in a charity shop and you wouldn't believe the things I used to buy. Yes Cosmic, shoes too! |

When I lived in Germany we had to go to summer, winter, spring balls and lots of dances too. We had something called a thrift shop you wore something once then took it to the shop, they sold it for you and they kept a percentage. Great for finding a bargain!

The outfit I wore for my daughter's wedding last year came from just such a shop here, called rather more elegantly a dress agency.

I'd just carry on eating as you're doing, and do some toning exercises. Partly because that's what is working for you, but also this whole size thing isn't really that reliable anymore. I'm a 12, 14 or 16 depending on the shop. So as long as you give yourself a day of shopping and are happy to go trawling around all the different shops you are going to find something that you like and that fits. I can lose 7 lbs easily and it not make the blindest bit of difference to my stats, or other times not lose weight but clothes definitely feel better.
And have fun in Brum - I lived there for 7 years and loved it . I used to live with my ex in the flats next to the Hilton - right in the hub of the city and great fun! Sx
