Annual PigRoast Date set... start planning now to attend!!!

The annual PigRoast will be held in Pigeon Forge TN on May 19th and 20th. There will be a meet and greet in one of the cabins and then the main gathering will be at the city park. Directions will be posted at a later date.

Cost of the Pig Roast will be $15.00 per person... this will pay for the cost of the pork... all paper products and door prizes. People will bring side dishes to share and their own drinks.... Information will be posted at a later date as to where to send the fee.

Pami typed up a very nice explanation on what we do at the PigRoast and what kinds of things to bring... She will be posting that soon. I suggest you make a copy of it so you can have the information handy.

I will also be adding information here, letting you know what cabin rental company we used for the main cabin (where the meet and greet will be held) This way you can either call them and let them know you would like to have a cabin near ours so it will be easier to get too... I am reserving this cabin early this next week so that will be when I release the information along with the phone number... If you are going to be renting a cabin near the main one just let them know the date of the gathering and also that you want to stay close to cheri with Lowcarbfriends.com... They will be able to assist you and also if you need additional help feel free to let me know.

I would really love to see a lot of you come... this gathering is both motivational and inspirational (isn't that bout the same thing? LOL) You will come away with a feeling of awe. It is that good. So mark your calendar for May 19th and 20th... you will not want to miss this one!!!!

The Pig Roast is a weekend-long event held annually. The past two years, it has been held in Pigeon Forge, TN. It will be in Pigeon Forge again this year, 2006. It is for Low Carb Friends and their spouses, or significant others.

(It is not appropriate for children, although with some creative planning, children could be accommodated. This would involve bringing your own sitter, though, and leaving the children in your cabin with the sitter for several of the get-togethers, so it really isn’t family-oriented.)

You will need to bring in everything you want to eat or drink; the cabins have fully-furnished kitchens. (If you need a blender or a mixer, you should pack that; there are coffee makers in the cabins, though.) There is a Kroger store 5 minutes away. You might get together with your cabin-mates and divide up shopping, cooking, cleaning duties for each meal, or you might just wing it. There is a dishwasher, but you will need to provide your own dishwasher detergent. (Also, the cabins also have a washer and dryer, so if you anticipate needing to do any laundry, you will want to bring laundry detergent as well.)

The weekend begins on Friday, with people arriving from all over. Some of the early arrivals will opt to go out for lunch or sight-seeing (or even grocery-shopping) before the bulk of the crowd arrives. Check-in at the cabins isn’t until 3PM, so if you arrive earlier than that, you will need to keep yourself occupied until you can get into your cabin.

In the late afternoon to early evening, there is a Meet & Greet get-together at our cabin, with light snacks and beverages. Pigeon Forge is in Sevier County, which is a dry county, with the exception of the city of Gatlinburg, which was grand-fathered in. Within the city limits of Pigeon Forge, beer is available in grocery and convenience stores, and wine can be purchased only at the Smoky Mountain Winery, located on the Parkway. Gatlinburg is only eight to ten miles south of Pigeon Forge, but it’s a long winding drive through the mountains, and it’s recommended that you bring your alcohol from home, if you’re one of those who cares to imbibe.

Bring your bathing suit. The cabins all have hot tubs. I bring a beach towel, as well, but there are bath towels provided if you forget yours.

There are DVD players; if you have any karaoke discs, bring them along! It could be fun!

If you are going to make something for Saturday that needs to chill overnight, you may want to start that before the Meet & Greet on Friday. This can go on into the wee hours (although a few people are so worn out from traveling that they opt to leave early and crash, so they can be up and at ‘em on Saturday morning).

Saturday morning, breakfast is handled by each of the cabins. If you want to provide breakfast for your entire cabin (which is usually easier; just throw a quiche in the oven), that is great! It can get a little cramped with ten people in the kitchen trying to prepare ten different breakfasts. After breakfast, we usually start working on our covered-dish contributions to take to the park. After everything is ready to go, there is usually time for a trip into town, or a soak in the hot tub.

Now, for the main event-

We have a picnic lunch with everyone contributing a dish, and the pork is roasted off-site and carried in. There is no alcohol allowed in the park, so don’t even try that! We have, in the past, been able to reserve a shelter, with picnic tables and electrical outlets. The restrooms (public restrooms- there are people in and out of there all the time) are built into one end of the shelter. After lunch, we play BINGO, complete with prizes, and everyone gets up to introduce himself/herself. You get to hear a little about how your Low Carb Friends got started on their journeys, and how lowcarbing has changed them. Some of it is emotional, some of it is comical, but it’s all inspirational. Cleaning up after lunch takes a minute (or ninety!) but when everyone pitches in to help, it goes by quickly.

Saturday evening, there is another get-together in someone’s cabin. (This is an opportunity to get rid of all the left-overs from the picnic!) This is much like the one on Friday night, however, everyone knows a bit more about everyone else by this time. The atmosphere is not so much that of a bar, with strangers partying side-by-side, as it is a family reunion.

Sunday morning, breakfast is handled the same way as Saturday. It’s nice to have something quick and easy planned because there is a lot of packing and cleaning-up to do on Sunday morning. Once everyone is mostly packed-up, people start milling about the ‘neighborhood’ to say good-bye to friends, new and old. Some very close and lifelong friendships have developed as a result of this particular weekend. People will be leaving at different times; some may have a plane to catch, some may have a longer drive than others, but we try not to let anyone get away without a hug and a ‘good-bye’.

Sounds like we are going to have a great turn out. If I might make a suggestion to those who have not been in attendance before.....

Start a thread if you are looking to car pool and/or share a cabin. Cabin information will be posted soon. DO NOT wait until the last minute to make travel and lodging arrangements. Everything fills up quickly and it is much cheaper to get in on a cabin and to car pool.

Post where you are from and you will be surprised at the response you will get. Hope all of you looking for travel companions and cabins can work out the details but again I stress........DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!!!!

Can't wait to see all the regulars and new people. This gathering gets me so worked up and inspired....even now and it is still 3 1/2 months away

Sis I am glad to hear that you will be coming. I saw you started a thread about car pooling in your area. Keep checking in here and on your thread......I am sure there are others that will be interested in sharing expenses.

I will actually be in Memphis that Friday morning. I am flying to the Pig Roast this year.....usually ride with Cheri and I will miss that becuase we have fun along the way but can't do that this year......can't get as much time off work. I will be flying from Springfield to Memphis and then from Memphis to Knoxville. Should be in Knoxville about 12:30 on Friday and then will fly back on Sunday afternoon.

I am so excited....can't wait
