Anyone for a NY/NYC/CT Gathering?

Hi. I live in Central NJ, about 35 minutes from NYC. I would love to do a lc get-together if anyone is up to it. We can pick a fun place in NYC (after the weather gets better).

Anyone interested? Any ideas on someplace that might ba a good meeting place? I think this could be a lot of fun.

Hi. I laughed when I saw who the response was from to this new thread. I would love to get together with you. I am very familiar with NY, but if just the two of us get together, I'd be happy to meet with you in NJ.

i was just wondering if ny would be having any more meetups...there were some a while ago but i was not able to attend.

i know edison fairly well...my family lives near the metuchen and metroplark station on nj transit...that works for me also.

Hi Lee,
I would have thought there's be NYC gathering, but I've never seen one posted. Those mid-westerners seem to have do so every once in a while.
Let's see if we get any other responses, then when the weather gets better we can decide if we'll meet in NYC or in NJ.

How long have you been doing lc? I've been around here for quite a while, but finally got serious about it recently. I have about 80 lbs to lose, but I'm now on the right track!

i have been on low carb for about 5 years now...lost a total of almost 60 lbs. I stay on a more moderate low carb diet now, and am looking to drop another 10 or so if I can. So....our desired weight loss numbers are about the same.

There were several nyc area meetings over the years...to the best of my recollection there was a young woman from connecticut who seemed to put alot of work into doing them, or atleast trying to organize them. i am not sure i have seen her around the boards lately, although if she is here, then i stand corrected. anyway, you are right though that other areas of the country seem to have more interest. perhaps once the weather gets better around here there might be a better show of people wanting to meet.

Hi Suzie, Looks like there are four of us now. I'm going to keep track of who responds then we'll all decide where and when to get together in the spring.
Where down the shore are you? I used to work in Tinton Falls, then Long Branch.

I'm so glad you are interested in a NYC/NJ gathing. Driving up from DE is not that bad. Actually, you'll be driving right past where I live, so we can drive into the city together.
I am going to keep track of all the names and when we have real spring weather we'll have to figure out what we want to do, and where we want to have it. I have never been to a LCF gathering, so I'm not sure exactly how it works. I'll have to ask a few of my friends from the mid-west to see what they do.
Any and all ideas are welcome. By the way, what's your name?

Glad to hear from you all the way up in Albany. It's not a bad drive to get to NYC, at all, and this is much better than going to the mid-west for a lc gathering!
If you have any suggestion or ideas, you are welcome to post them. That goes for anyone else who wants to put in their two cents on our get-together.

Looks like our NY/NJ gathering is gaining momentum. The weather is getting better by the day (except for all the rain), so maybe we should start thinking of what we might like to do for our first outing. Having never been to a lcf gathering, any and all ideas are appreciated.

I moved up to NY from Jacksonville, where I'd lived for the last 5+ years. Before that it was WI with a few years (college) in New Mexico. So this is my great foray into living in the Northeast! So far it's been a culture shock & a weather shock (although the weather today & tomorrow might help me get over my fears of continuous bad weather here).

Hi everyone!! Anne has gotten in touch with me and we have planned to have a NJ gathering for all the Metro Area at my home in Howell, NJ some Sunday in July. We thought this would be so much more affordable to all and would give us more time to sit, relax and enjoy one another. We could spend the whole day this way, instead of only a few hours in a resturant. We are looking at either July 9th, 16th or 23th. We thought we could have a potluck kind of BBQ where everyone could bring a different dish, recipe included to share, and also another favorite recipe (just on paper) to pass along. Families are welcome and I have an above ground pool for all to enjoy.

Once we all can settle on a date, we will get the other details settled. Please try to come. We think this will be a blast and it will be nice to talk to others face to face who are eating and living Lowcarb!!

Let us know what date you would prefer.

I am in Monmouth County, New Jersey. about 10 miles from Belmar. From Wilmington, Delaware I would be about 1 and 1/2. From NYC I am about the same timing. Garden State Parkway Ext. 98. to 195W to Rt.9. NJ Turnpike Ext. 7A to 195E to Rt. 9. Very easy to get to me, no crazy twists and turns.

We are going to go with the majority date. When we know we will let you all know.

Linda, I am so glad you are going to host the Metro area gathering. Here's a giant THANK YOU!!! You're home will be easy to find for anyone in NY/CT/Phila/North or South Jersey. ALL the dates are good for me, so let's just go with whatever the majority response is.

I'll do my best to make it - sounds like fun. I'm starting a new job next week & have no idea if that's a busy time or not that might require working on the weekends. I also have a bunch of friends from FL that plan to visit sometime over the summer, but no dates are set yet. I have a car now, but most likely will be getting rid of it before July because it's just too darn expensive to keep it in a garage. Maybe if there are a few people from the city without transportation we could rent a car for a day, split the cost & drive down to make it faster than taking a bus. Definitely let me know what date gets decided on
