How many British Lo-Carbers here?

Hello everyone,

I joined this site on Sunday and have already gained so much knowledge and support. Everyone has been fantastic.

Are there many British Lo-Carbers around? I'm in Cheshire.

Come along and say hello. I'd love to hear about your successes and goals.

Hi tele,

Whereabouts in the UK are you?

I'm on day 10 of induction and also haven't cheated, although the temptation to have semi-skimmed milk and sugar in coffee has been nearly unbearable .

I lost 5lb in my first week of induction and haven't weighed again yet, but i'm wearing trousers that I couldn't get into recently!

I want to lose 2 stone in total, so a little way to go yet.

Thanks for replying,

Pink

Hi

Hi

I had thought about trying to find a British Atkins dieter as it seems a lot of the products aren't available here.

I've lost 13 1/2 over 5 weeks - with most of it coming off the first two weeks - I must admit I am struggling a bit over the last few days - you can get sick of meat, but I am keeping going and won't give up.

How are you doing??

Hi Kirstin,

You're doing amazingly well! I know what you mean about getting tired of meat, i've never been a big meat eater but i'm persevering and have discovered that I actually like fish...I never used to eat fish at all!

I'm now on day 12 of induction and I know I should only weigh weekly, but I hopped on the scales this morning and i've lost 8lbs in total so far I lost 5lbs the first week, so may lose a bit more before my official weigh in.

I've found that my appetite has diminished and I have to eat when i'm not really hungry, otherwise i'll end up missing a meal. I used to eat and eat, ignoring when my stomach said it was full.

Anyway, nice to hear from you. I can't believe we're the only Brit's on the board,

Hi girls!

Hi girls!

Sorry not joined your thread earlier, have spells when working a lot can't get to computer much!

Have you found warning: removed by admin. yet??

They are internet stores where you can buy many of the products that the yanks use! Trouble is they are MEGA expensive and charge for delivery, £5 with LCM so make each order worthwhile!
I've had some of Dr A's own supplements from them not sure if they really help but I am at my target weight at least on alternate days! I like the low carb sweets!!! The ones that the yanks would call candy! I've had Sherbet lemons, Strawberries and cream, Mintoes and Chocolate!!! My favorites are the sticks of fruit flavoured rock and aniseed rock! they last for AGES!

BUT BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! the sugar alcohols!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You end up with enough wind several hours later to fly several kites!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another problem I've had with warning: removed by admin. is that you order stuff and its out of stock, so from a fair sized order only half the stuff comes and you've paid for delivery then need to order again???
I'm going to talk to my local Tesco! How about you? If ATKINS is having enough impact for the potato growers to be complaining then SURELY its time the supermarkets jumped on the band wagon, I'm pretty sure that they will overcharge us AKA the price of SPLENDA but at least we would have the convenience of having the stuff locally, not having to pay postage and being able to see if its in stock!?!

Have you got Dr A's cookbook? Found a SCRUMMY recipe for CHICKEN MASCARPONE p135, I can't believe its diet food!!!

Love SarahP

Hi, I'm in Yorkshire!

I haven't bothered with the substitute products so far, except I did try some diabetic chocolate and toffee (from Boots). OK, but nothing special.

I've decided to make this woe something which improves not just my weight but my health and eating habits too, so I'm staying off the processed foods as much as I can.

There's still crisps and biscuits in the house for the kids, but I'm not trempted because I've got out of the habit of eating things like that.

My local Tesco has just started to stock Splenda, so I might try some new recipes.

Just my 2ps worth, this is what works for me.

Hi girls,

SarahP..... What a great idea to talk to Tesco about lo-carb products. I shall get on to my local Asda

I looked at the lo-carb online shopping sites, but it all seems too expensive and i'm doing ok without any sweet treats (Except for sugar free jelly and cream that is)

This woe seems to be suiting me so far and i've lost 12lbs in 3 weeks, so i'm happy....ecstatic actually Hope I can keep it up. I tend to get dispondant when the weight stops falling off.

I've got a Dr Atkins cook book and the cod with parsley-lemon sauce is delicious, happy to post the recipe if anyone wants it.

Cheers,

Pink x

Hi there

How are you all doing. Cheated last night with some chocolate chip cookies.... back on it today.

7 weeks - 15 1/2 lbs.

I find the weight loss is slowing pretty much but I have been cheating now and again so I'm going for a week with no cheats whatsoever to see what happens.

Hi girls!

Hi girls Hi Rosy,Pink and Kirsten Congratulations on the weight loss girls!!!!

Try to go very easy on the cheating Kirsten as one thing can lead to another then you've had a whole day off your diet , then a few days then you have to start ALL over again!!!

Its Ok if you're not gaining any weight but its a SLIPPERY slope! I know I've been on it myself recently!!! I'm at my target weight SOMETIMES but instead of doing premaintainance or Atkins for life I started to drift back to my old way of eating, I gained back 4lb and THOSE were the HARDEST 4lb I ever lost!!! So it was back to induction for me!!! Today I am at my original target weight, but still hankering for a few more pounds off before winter!!

Rosy I like your attitude towards healthy eating but if a piece of diabetic chocolate occasionally (TOM?) will keep you on the straight and narrow isn't that just being human and female?

Pink I haven't got round to speaking to Tesco yet but I think its worth a try, let me know what happens if you speak to anyone at ASDA as we have a local one of those. Will try the Cod that you recommended when I come off nights, can't face cooked food when I get up at 4pm and before I go to work at 8pm nights makes me nauseous.

Keep up the good work girls and keep posting! ALL tips, hints, comments, tales of woe and celebration WELCOME!!!

Hi all

Just to let you know I'm managing not to cheat and I'm feeling better for it. I love it when I get determined again!! TOM just about passed and I always feel more determined then.

Pink - what cream do you use?

Kirstin..... I just use double cream or clotted cream, depends on what I fancy.

I think Atkins is finally taking off in the UK! It's one of the fastest selling books this year...hooray, maybe now the shops will be more open to stocking lo-carb goodies.

I haven't spoken to anyone at Asda yet (I'd actually forgotten about it). Will try and get an email address for a head office and target them rather than the manager in m local store.

I've just finished TOM and did have 'sweet' cravings but hand on heart, I did not cheat Haven't lost weight this week but also haven't gained. Have lost 14lbs now and it's starting to show. I plan to move onto OWL now that i've finished night duty.

Hear from you soon,

Pink

Hi Pinsksparks, sounds like you are doing very well, keep it up mate! I started in mid-June - just managed to off load two stone! Woooohoooo!

I am now losing 2 lbs a week, and stripping out my wardrobe at the same time, aint going back there again!

My sugar-free Jelly and Cream is my life saver when I feel the "nibbles" coming on, when I am bored I guess.

But like many others, it seems I have a problem finding in-expensive alternatives in the shops, to kill the manotony, it has not improved my spelling has it!

Its great to chat to others on this venture, its boring the pants off of everyone else I know, and they so envy my cooked breakfasts! he he he

Hi girls!

Hi everyone!!!!

Finished my nights ! went back strictly on induction and Have lost 6lb this week!!!!!!! Now 2lb BELOW original target weight!!!

Been cheating an awful lot lately I was either in induction levels carbs or TOTALLY off the diet! never got to grips with OWL or pre-maintainance, so this time I went back to induction with a vengenace and the determination that I had when I first started in late March. I'm a nurse and nights I find is the easiest shift to diet on, I ignored my colleages who went to the canteen for chips and had peppered beef, egg mayonnaise and strong cheese salads over my three nights and have been duly rewarded!!! The Whoosh fairy paid me a visit while I wasn't looking! When I had my original weight loss in April/May I found I would lose weight in chunks and not 1 or 2 pounds at a time!

I'm so chuffed!!! I've been battling with these last few pounds on and off for ages and I finally seem to have cracked It!!!

Starting weight (if I'm honest) 150lb lost 25lb in 7 weeks, regained about 7 on holiday took almost another six weeks to re-lose those pounds. Today I am 117 heading towards 110-112 then I will be the happiest I have ever been with my weight for the last 20 years!!!

Been suffering from lots of carb creep and very guilty of not keeping track of my carbs and sometimes blatantly cheating rationalising that my body "needed a change".

My diet tips for 33lb of loss

Try hard to drink as much water as you can tolerate!

NEVER cheat!

Find lots of Different things you like don't stick to the same thing EVERY day

Tell everyone and be evangelical about it, they will monitor you cheating and at least then you will only be able to cheat in private

Enter into a pact with yourself not to cheat as the weight loss is more important to you! Remember the old LIfetime on the lips adage

Do treat yourself though you are human and "legal" treats will stop you straying off the straight and narrow!!!???!!! Mine is low carb candy from an internet store Sherbet lemons and aniseed rock have saved me many a time!

Try not to obssess about food, get out of the kitchen and the supermarket fast and try to find an exercise that you love!!! Try Salsa!!! The dance not the dip!!!! LOL

Well done Kirsten on the NOT cheating keep going and you will be rewarded further i'm sure

Love SarahP

Hey

How is everyone doing? This thread is a bit quiet.

I've lost 17lbs but have been up and down on the scales for a few weeks now - funny, I feel as if I am a lot lighter it's just not showing up yet.

I had posted a menu on the main lc lobby and got replies saying I have maybe been eating too much processed & cheese. So I'm going to give it a go not to eat the smoked sausage, pate etc. and see how it goes.

Any tips?

Hello, I have just found your thread! I didn't know you were here! I usually only post on the main lobby and the challenge board.

I live in Cheshire and work in Manchester city centre and I've been on Atkins for nearly 18 months. I love it. Over time, I have come to rely on only a couple of LC replacement foods that have for the moment to be bought online. As it's a way of life for me now, not just a weight loss plan, I need to do this for variety. I try to eat whole natural foods 90% of the time though.

It's great that we can now get Splenda but we have alot of catching up to do. One of the posters on the UK challenge thread works for a company that is going to start selling Atkins products later in the year and we're waiting for more details. Pop in!

For those of you who are fairly new to this, it becomes easier and easier over time. I have to admit to the occasional deliberate cheat but I can control it being an "old hand"! When I get to maintenance (I had an 8 month setback due to going on Depo Provera a v bad experience) it would be nice to have some more commercial LC foods available in supermarkets like Atkins stuff. I miss chocolate so buy Woodies bars, they're only small and are excellent for cravings. I find Boots and Thorntons diabetic chocolates and sweets give me horrendous tummy trouble! Be warned!

Nice to see you all here!

Hi girls,
I'm a Yank busting into your thread
Anyway you could arrange for a large shipment of low carb goodies and then split them up amongst you? Surely domestic shipping once it arrives isn't too expensive.
You'll have to wait until the winter though, so the lovely chocolates don't melt!!
Let me know if I can help arrange
