New to LFL...Again...Advice?

Hello, I am a 28YO bride-to-be (5/15/2010) and I have steadily gained 110 pounds over the past 10 years. Most of my lean friends my age don't really understand how 100+ pounds can just "creep" on...but they did :-/ Anyway, as my wedding looms closer I can't bear the though of draping my now corpulent and quite buxom frame with yards of white satin trimmed with beads and accented by flabby arms and back fat .... So Here I am ready to start LFL one more time (I have tried once before with mild-mod success, only to be derailed and never climb back aboard).

So here is where I am asking for advice. I am a medical resident who works 70-80 hours a week, I spend 1-2 nights sleeping (or not) at the hospital, and my current weight is maintained with hospital cafeteria food - where even the grilled chicken breasts swim in vats of butter prior to being served. I have confidence in this program, and you all represent pillars of success... Any advice/ideas on some take from home meals that I can bring to keep me out of the cafeteria? how do you all make the plan work for you in your busy lives? Any ideas of how to work the protein days so I am consuming something other than tuna straight from the can and fat-free string cheese? Any ideas for a shelf stable In case-of-emergency arsenal to keep in my locker? Have you all had luck with the lindora bars - they seem awfully high in sugar? Well any tips/advice at all would be greatly appreciated....I need to figure out how to make the program work - it always seems so simple starting out, but somehow....it just gets so difficult to stick with.

Welcome to the L4L thread and LCF.
I am sure you are so excited to get married!

I have some ideas that I used when I started - I started my weight loss at 240ish.

This is what I would do..

1. Print out a calender just for weight loss that you can keep a visual of whats going on week, by week. Take not of your progress.
There are free calenders all over the web. I print them myself.

2. Realize there are several holidays coming your way that you need to have a plan. I would let all those around you to know that you are on a mission of better health. I would not say I have "100" pounds to lose. I would just focus on health and I am sure the reast will follow.

3. Halloween - tell yourself right now NO CANDY. Before during or after Halloween! I am sure you will see it at work....move it out of your eye site, pop in sugar free gum, get far away from it. I had to do this at my work.

4. Thanksgiving - Make legal foods of higher fat, lower carb. But stay away from tirgger foods and then get right back on your program. This Thanksgiving, my family is getting up early and walking, riding, jogging, biking 3 miles at the beach. Its our first 5k...lol -

5. Any other holiday (we celebrate Christmas) treat the same as Thanksgiving.

6. If you cannot stick to portien days, do 3 days of high fat, very low carb. Just get into ketosis to get carb cravings under control. OR! Skip protein days all together and move right into weight loss days.

7. Bring cooler to work. I did this for years. Hard boiled eggs, cold chicken, cold lean steak, yogurt, milk, whatever you like. No reason to get stuck in a rut.

8. Products...the bars triggered cravings for me. I do like them but they are like candy to me. But! I did very well on the chicken soup and chili. Not exactly Wolf Gang Puck but it got me through. Oh and the puddings. I liked the chocolate. I also liked the pine soy nuts. That with a big glass of ice tea or diet soda was filling. Reminds me to get some.

9. Do mini goals...each month pick a realist goal. Also, start walking, swimming, biking..something...but do it. You need to do the whole package of good health. Water, good thoughts, good food, sleep ( this is a toughy I know)

10. Bring your own dressing...but eat those cafe salads.

11. Consider reading " THe Thin Commandments"..rent it at library if need be. Really a great book.

PS: The locker...you could buy one of those small, soft coolers. They collapse. I have been known to bring my own cold chicken, in a baggie, anyplace, any time.

You can do this with a bit of planning. I am sure you will be a lovely bride

Thank you for your reply. I am on the tall side of 5' 8" and gulp..around 260. I walked onto my college campus 10 years ago 148 on the nose, solidly muscle (I was a rower) and a size 8/10. I walk into the bridal shops with the image of that thin girl in my head - but then am faced with the image of me in a size 24 wedding gown in the mirror and it is so different than what I see in my mind - its so wierd - like I spent the last 10 years so busy with school I never really LOOKED at myself in the mirror...the loose fitting scrubs I wear to work don't help!

But really thanks for your tips, I will be sure and implement them tomorrow when I get started again!

I hear ya. My mom is a retired nurse. Oh and get this, years and years ago, she lost 50 pounds off on Lindora. Its been around for a long time. Its strict but it works.

I wanted to say...5'8 and 260, you are going to have stellar results fast. Dont give in. If you do, get right back to it ASAP.

And I wanna say also..I would buy my salad fixings. I would leave a big bowl in the locker. Then I would put my salad fixings in a freezer baggie and carry it fresh to work. I wonder if you have a community fridge or something. This will help you with your temptations and cash flow. I brought my food to work for years. I rarely went out to eat.

And finally, if you find you are hungry, I recommend eating some hamburger. A nice size patty with salad can satiate pretty well.

Do you have a Rite Aid near you? Last I checked, they sell Lindora products. Use sparingly, they work.
