LFL Week of Jan 15-22 weekly thread

Well team I did it, I made it to the 10 pds lost!! woohoo. I spent all evening yesterday cooking up new stuff that I hadnt tried yet. I made the turkey chili and it was really good stuff. I also made the cream of "potato" soup using the cauliflower, but I havent tried it yet, I will do that today. I also made some of the leenie muffins, those are pretty good too. I really like poppy seeds. Anyway, I am doing my big walk today, I havent really exercised the last 2 days, so today is the day. I walk 2.5 miles round trip to go get my Sunday paper! Well I better get going, I hope everyone feels as good as I do right now!!

Hi everyone –

I would like to ask to rejoin the thread. I have had some success in the past but have never followed through. I was going to make an attempt with WW at the start of this year but it is too much for me to deal with – the choices etc. I think (for me) it would be a great program for maintenance. I like LFL for just that reason – simple, very effective and straight to the point. It is more difficult but if you wanted it badly enough... I also like this group

I am starting tomorrow – Monday 1/16. I was going to post this last night but I thought maybe no one would be around so I waited until this AM. I am starting from scratch – 3 protein days etc…I like the no-nonsense approach of this group and also the continued success. I also like the fact that you all always acknowledge each other - I think that is so great! I also had a health scare last week that shook me up a bit. I have had really bad heartburn for a long time which I treat but last week I had it with chest pains etc (similar to gallbladder pains if anyone has had them but I had my gallbladder out when I was 18!) …I just happened to be at the ER with my DD4 and asked for some info from the DR and of course the biggest thing for me is the weight and my food choices. My daughter has been ill this past week as well – mainly cold, really bad cough and also in a new preschool situation and I think she just keeps getting re-infected. The DR also thought the added stress of her being ill and also I have been unemployed for a while – everything all rolled up together. So I need a really healthy program and always come back here ….

I know I need to hang around for more than a day (my past experiences here!) so I can prove myself to myself and also to you guys…

Kelly - You have done great! I love that you have tried these recipes. I know I have seen some of them on the recipe thread - are they all there or do you have the recipe book? I know there are some on the Lindora site but I think most are here.

Groovy - Fantastic job! You guys have just done great - I have been lurking here mostly week and always look for your successes!

Waving Hi to anyone who follows - have a great day!

Really looking forward to starting tomorrow!

Patty

Hi Lifers...

This was posted in the LFL in a nutshell sticky. I quoted it here for all to see. I have also put a link to the weekly thread as a reply so we can answer the questions here

This site has helped give me a lot more info. Thank you all =D Next week I will be starting MA and this time round I really really want to get it right. I'm just a bit confused ...my 2 questions here are

During MA, we are to add up to 2 servings of protein / meal...but then are we supposed to go back to eating 1 serving of protein / meal during Maintenance??

How should I start adding food back into the diet? Do you continue to eat food from the Menu Plan days?? This part really is my major downfall and gain the weight back so fast it scares me!!

Thank you...looking forward to any responses!!

Should I do 1 protein day and get back in or do 3 protein days? Also, should I start count that as starting week 1 again or continue counting from the kick start at the begining of the cycle?

Doing a quick check in. Everything is going okay. I had 2 good nights of sleep. Woo hoo! Well I need to go and exercise and work off some water weight from eating off plan. I'll be back later.

Hey, all!

How's it going, everyone? I haven't been on for a while, but that doesn't mean I've fallen off of the wagon. I'm still losing (145 lbs. and counting) and doing what it takes to ensure that I never regain what I've lost.

I took some time off for a couple of months and I maintained my weight within five pounds for the duration of my intermission.

Maintaining my weight was actually just as comforting as losing the weight. It's so hard for people to keep off the pounds that they've lost. Mostly because "diets" are temporary and "lifestyle changes" are forever.

Some people get it, some don't. I'm glad that I do.

Well, I just wanted to come online to see if I recognized any familiar faces.

WOW 100andcounting-
You look great. And you have been so successful.

I finally managed a pound loss. Excited that maybe now my real weight loss journey will begin. I have kind of been holding steady or inching upward for the past 2 weeks.

Patty,
I have gotten all the recipies off the sticky on this board. I dont own the book, but I am thinking about buying it someday. I love to cook and try new things, I get bored very easy with the same food all the time. So to keep myself interested in what I am doing, I am constantly trying new things, and will keep any of them that are really good, like the custard. I think the Turkey chili is a keeper too, my husband ate some today, and he never likes my low carb stuff, but he loved the chili. I did a slight modification to it, I added black beans, just a little, I know we really arent supposed to have those, but they have so much fiber and low calories, there are barely any carbs. I only used about 1/2 cup of them in the entire pot of chili, so i think that added like 10 carbs to the whole pot, not too bad.

Heahyou.....Congrats on those 10lbs. That is only just the beginning. So how was your big walk today?

Groovy.....KUTGW.... You will be at your first mini-goal before you know it.

Patty...Welcome back. So what do you have plan for your protein day one?

Adi...One pound is a great accomplisment. One pd here and one pd here will add up to a great loss. Don't forget to take your measurments so you can have other ways to measure to success than just the scale.

kladybug...Hope you feel better soon.

MOMO....Okay, you asked about maintenance after you complete a round. The book doesn't give specific is just says that the serving you eat should average 100-200 calories for protein. This is my conclusion.
During WL Menu...a serving size of chicken breast is 3.5 oz about 160 calories. So during maintenance your serving size would be 5 oz-6 oz which is about 230-275 calories. So when I do my maintenance phase, I eat what a normal serving size should be which is about 4-6oz. Depends on how hungry I am.

Adding food back in is tricky. I stick to the recommeded serving sizes of what the label might say if I am adding something back in. Dr Phil's book, the Ultimate Weight soultion Food Guide is what I use when I am in Maintenance Mode. So basically, like for pasta, I will eat 1/2 cup. I try to eat my higher carb items and starchy items, early. I either eat it for breakfast or for lunch. Basically, you have to add your items back in slowly and with appropriate portions size. You also have to keep exercising. Don't try to add everything in one meal or one day. Weigh every morning. If you are up the next morning after adding something back in, depending on how much you are up will determine how you eat that day. You might have to make that day a protein day or you might just need it to be a regualr WL day.

If you eat off plan, it really depends on where you are in the program as for what you should do. Here is something from LFL that might help you.

Cutting Back After You've Overindulged

The art of weight maintenance is balance. This is especially true when it comes to food. There will be times when you consume more calories than you normally would. You may decide to have dessert or a second glass of wine at a special event. Sometimes, we just have days when we're feeling a little self-indulgent.

You can relax and enjoy yourself fully more when you know that you will be able to compensate for those extra calories the next day or the day after that. If Saturday was a day of pancake breakfasts and barbecued ribs, for example, you might want to make Sunday a protein day. You can substitute a Lean for Life protein drink for one, two, or all three of your meals, get some exercise, and quickly tip the scale back into balance

I hope that helps.

Hi All!!

Back from work now..been quite a busy day so my protein day wasn't too bad. Usually if there's not much work I would be anxious to eat most of the day Been reading this board for quite a few days...I also feel, as Patty says, this is a great group! Everyone seems so friendly and supportive...not to mention so inspiring!!!

Well, just a brief intro, I'm a 25 yr old living in Melbourne, Australia. Two years ago, I started gaining weight crazily...about 30lbs in a few months and it stayed there until I started Healthpointe September 2005...since then I've lost lost about 18lbs but it's been so unstable cuz as I said I always seem to lose it starting MA...so thank u Bre for all your great advice hopefully I will get it right soon

I'm also so excited to see so many recipes!!! I'm not a good cook, so definitely not adventurous with my meals. My Healtpointe book only gives 10 choices of meals and after 3 cycles, I am getting so sick of eating the same meals over and over again. Are the recipes on the LFL Recipes thread allowed during the Menu plan days?? How about the Low fat low carbs cheese cake by Skinny Sue?? At what stage could we eat that

Haven't posted on this thread since spring of '04 (mostly just read here ). Did LFL back then and it was the only program that I was able to drop some lbs on (about 15). However, the last year has been very disappointing and I can honestly say, its not due to cheating or slacking off -have no idea what the problem is, other that perhaps age

Anyway, I started back on LFL over the weekend and today will be a protein day---sure hoping for some results.

Nice to see this LFL group still here---waving to all---nice to see a few familiar 'faces'

Waving Hi to Carol so glad to see you here! I am returning as well and today is my first protein day. We will all do great

I have been reading alot this AM - the recipe thread IS great! I think in the past I only started reading it about halfway and then gave up. It is amazing when you are more motivated how things JUMP out at you - more perseptive (sp) maybe...Though I am not sure if some are completely LFL friendly...I will also look at the Lindora site and see if any can be added. I do know that "Extra Moist Chicken" is great and can be used with diet Coke especially and also other flavored diet sodas...makes good leftovers and I think if I just eliminate the veggies for now (which would lose some flavor), it could be used for protein days. Though I know you can add other veggies as well - onion (as listed) and also peppers..Also the Egg Drop soup is great - especially for anyone is the cold areas about now...

MOMO - So glad to hear from you - how wonderful you found us from the other side of the world! I have a great friend in New Zealand that I hope to visit one day! I don't know how LFL friendly that cheesecake recipe is - maybe Bre or Claritta could check it out sometime and advise? I was thinking that maybe if we made it like the custard but with cottage cheese and eggs and vanilla and splenda and cooked in a water bath, it might be similiar and LFL...maybe I will try it and let you all know.

Bre - Hi and thanks for the welcome back...my motivation is high now so I am running with it! For my protein days ahead I am planning on cottage cheese, skim milk (also using for coffee), canned chkn breast (I love that stuff!) and I may pick up some salmon to bake in a foil wrap with some lemon. Also will make some of the custards and something with ground turkey breast. I have a recipe that only adds seasoning that makes it taste like Italian sausage...will find it and post. Once I get onto WL days, I will add some of the recipes as Kelly did....You look wonderful and I am glad your health is doing good!

Waving Hi to everyone else - I will be on and off all day. I am currently unemployed (all least for a few more weeks) and my DD4 will be going to the DR once again today since she isn't doing so well...

Have a great day!

Patty

PS - Wondering where Niccole (epidoc) is...hope all is well and wish she would return!

Bre,
My walk was great yesterday, but I think I got carried away last night with the fresh pinneapple. I bought a fresh whole one from the store and its my favorite in the world. I am up a little weight this morning, I think I must have ate too much, I wasnt really measuring, I was just kinda eating it as I was cutting it up. whoops. Oh well, back on track today. My legs arent that sore today, so they must be getting used to my walk. I think today I am going to use my large workout ball I got with teh DVD and resistance bands, I havent used it yet, and want to see what kind of a workout I will get. Have a great Monday, everyone

Hi to all. Just a quick checkin to keep up with accountability.
Down .6 this morning so maybe I am REALLY going to start my slow weight loss. Exercise is still my issue.
Bre - I measure every morning but was surprised to see the scale go down and my measurements go up and it sure sin't from exercising.
Got to run.

Good morning, all!

How's it going, people? Ready for another week? I'm sure everyone's goal is to be lighter on Friday than they are today, right?

Easier said than done, right?

I'm taking some time off (a week) to give my body a break. I plan on eating my normal L4L menu, but i'll substitute one meal per day with something offplan. Maybe something fried or something not necessary low-carb.

I'm trying to reward myself for being disciplined over the last month.

Now that I'm almost two years in (on the L4L plan), I feel like I control my weight and it doesn't control me.

Well, I actually felt like that when I lost my first 75 lbs. I see some of you have lost a lot and some of you are just starting.

Whatever stage of your weight loss you are in, please keep this in mind:

There are a lot of regrets in life that only take one opportunity to happen.

* Some people end up with many years of unplanned parenting for a regrettable decision they've made.

* Some people end up with many years of prison for a regrettable decision they've made.

* Some people end up with many years without a friend or love one for a regrettable statement/comment they've made.

But weight gain takes more than a split decision. More than a heat-of-the-moment situation. More than a speaking-without-thinking incident.

Weight gain takes weeks, months, years to happen.

It doesn't happen overnight despite what most of us would like to believe the morning our jeans don't fit

Everyday is a new day.

Is food so important that you're willing to throw away your hard work for one meal?

And that one bad meal turns into two bad meals because "I might as well have another burger today since I messed up yesterday."

Eating is one of the few things in life you can get wrong for one day and not have it follow you the rest of your life.

Take advantage of that.

It takes a bunch of bad days to gain weight. So, if you have one bad day, don't make it worse by stringing together a bad weekend with the mindset, "I'll start fresh on Monday."

No, you won't.

That's how we've ended up in the situation that we're in today. From making multiple bad decisions over an extended period of time.

All I'm asking is that you think about what you're doing before you do it.

Keep the mindset: "There are seven days in a week. I'll lose weight for four and maintain for three."

Have a great week!

Maintain is what I did this weekend. I can't pretend not to know why. I never left ketosis but my diet was to high in fat this weekend.

Hello to all,

100 and counting, Thanks so much, for the beautiful insightful message. I definitely needed to hear that to help me through the days and weeks when I don't lose. I'm still on track, just losing so very slow.

Hi Carol and Patty!! Great to see you here!! 100&counting, thanks for the great message!! Hi to all the rest as well!!!
I went to the dr this morning and I've got 3 more weeks of antibiotics and then a CT scan in a month.
I've got to get more organized to get back on track. Rather than eating too much, I probably eat too little since I don't feel good. I will do better this week!! At least I've maintained!

Hi all,

Glad to see everyone is doing great. Nothing new to report. I am back on track with enjoying my exercise. I have had two great workouts. I had a higher carb meal on Friday and ending up enjoying my workout. Does that mean that I had more energy b/c of the carbs?

Carol...Welcome back. I don't think I was around when you where here, but I look forward to chatting with you.

Karla...Hope you get to feeling better soon. Take it easy, eat what you can (good choices of course), and drink your liquids.

MOMO....So what is the Healthpointe program that you are using? Did it include the book, or just shakes and bars?

Claritta...Did you enjoy your 4 day weekend?

Okay....A few of us have been recommitted for a few weeks, a few have been on plan a few days, others might be beginning MA or just taking a break, .............My question is how are you feeling right now in regards to your journey? Are you enthusiastic? Ambivalent? Afraid? Struggling? How are you doing overall?

Does anyone read the book daily?
