Terry,
Argh...Hashimotos is a whole different animal. You get an autoimmune thyroiditis. There are antibodies to two thyroid entities.
Please don't blame yourself!!!
And please everyone, we can all use a hug now and then. It's so easy to blame ourselves for just about everying that happens. It's difficult to determine who will actually develope full blown thyroid malfunction.
Some people starve and recover, others don't. I believe this a deeper chemical connection.
My thoughts are that Human Leukocyte antigens play a big role. These chemicals are inherited markers on our white cells. This is how I got celiac Disease. I have HLA D markers that give me the risk.

Low carbers do not need insulin levels to fall because we don't spike our insulin with a big sugar rush at meal time so we have fat metabolism going 24/7

so we can eat those small meals more frequently if that is the way we want to go or we can do 3 big meals.

Kat just let me know I get folk telling me to speak english all the time when I get excited about science stuff.
Same argument with exercising on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, always baffles me in the context of a low carb diet...

I'm one of them that never goes to the doctor unless I'm dying or in so much pain I cannot stand it anymore...how do you know if you have matabolism or thyroid problems....I'm sure I've done some damage doing KK. Just don't want to go to the doctor and admit it, lol.

GMTA!! I added the same thing to my post!

2big,
Of course you're right they base the advice on high carb "normal" diets. I have been reading on refeeding and carb cycling for weight training. I need some muscle to get my metabolism back to normal.
I try to not eat dinner too late...I tend to not sleep well and gain weight easily if I don't get enough sleep.
But the point of this thread is to enlighten folks about how they were lied to about lowcarb eating and the need to educate ourselves. It's a constant effort to keep up with new studies.

Sydney...can't even tell that is the same guy in the rock version...pretty cool. I didn't know that about him. I like him but not a big follower...hope you run into him on the street when you visit your friend.

Sorry...back on topic....yes, Dee....exchange email addy's...my group and I did it right away before we were all banned. Some were banned and didn't even do anything or say anything, some still have accounts but never go there. Me, I remined her of Cutie (sorry Cutie, lol) so she banned me pretty quick. As people have said, you PMs are not private either. Trust me, I know for a fact, I have a PM from Heidi that she quotes one of my PMs back to me and someone else. They do read them and they do ban people for them just like they ban people for just visiting this thread. Best of luck to you and Carly.

As far as Garth Brooks....does he really make a good arguement regarding the talking in 3rd person. Didn't he come out under a different name or something like that at one point. At a point when he made it big. (Am I making this up or did it really happen).

you are to blame if that is the word for aggravating your low T3 levels with your poor dietary choices, but Hashimoto is an autoimmune illness and high carb never dieted in their life folk have it too. Our bodies are destroying our thyroid gland which will effect the level of thyroid hormone we produce as time goes on.

then if somebody who has it doesn't eat or eats foods that interfere with production and/or conversion it makes out hypothyroidism worse but doesn't always cause our hasimoto's to flare up more. it is like any autoimmune disease science hasn't discovered the on off switch for it yet.
Whew! I knew Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disorder, so I couldn't figure out the connection between it and starvation dieting. It's one of several autoimmune problems I have.

I always though you ate at least 5 hours apart or like you have been doing, Terry, 4-6 small meals a day.
Actually, I only eat three times a day - breakfast at 8 (used to be 7 before someone told me to wait an hour after taking my thyroid meds), lunch at 1, and dinner around 7. In bed between 9 - 11.

2big & Larcana ~ LOVE the ongoing healthy discussions! You're answering some questions I've had. Keep it up, girls!

And for you 3rd person talkers ~ you're reminding me of the Seinfeld ep where Elaine wants to meet a guy at the gym so she starts talking to his friend who says "Jimmy likes Elaine...Jimmy thinks he and Elaine should get together..." Elaine thinks she's making a date with the other guy and finds out the guy she was talking to was Jimmy! Good stuff.

Carly! Join in, listen, learn, whatever you like. Glad you're here. Oh and Dee, burning a CD is super easy. Roxio makes a burning program thats super simple to use. Or just play around with the one that's already on your computer. You'll get the hang of it.

I was thinking that very same thing earlier this morning! Somehow, between my bedroom and the family room, that thought flew out of my brain.

ETA: the really fun part came when Elaine found out that the guy she was interested in wasn't her "type".

OMG - way off topic alert here ...

I just chased a ground squirrel around my house - I should say a ground squirrel and my cat! It is now trapped in an upside down box, with a heavy box on top, and a heavy box on three sides, backed up against the flagstone wall of my kitchen! (the ground squirrel, not the cat) It is going to sit there until my dh gets home many hours from now I couldn't chase it oustide without the cat following it, and he's an indoor only kitty!

The cat would grab it, carry it around, then let it loose so they could "play". I don't think I will have to worry about mice this fall (that's why we got the kitty in the first place).

My dh's priorities for the evening just got changed from whatever they were - find the hole!

Carly! I copied Deni's for her (although Heidi did let her back in to get it in the meantime), and I think it had everything including her signature. I'll have to try to remember how I did it and let you know.

That's one tough indoor kitty! Mine would do the same thing. He likes to "play" with bugs and gets very upset when I kill them.

Mom - I'm an animal lover, so I was letting the squirrels have their fun until they ate my porch swing down to the chains! After that, it was all out war.

Well let's put it this way.. I put it in word.. Dee if you are happy to just have the verbiage and nothing pretty like pictures then I can just email this to you vs sending it to you snail mail with a CD. All 300 some odd pages of it.

Dee can tell you whether or not it's the text that matters, or the prettiness. If she wants pretty, you can do screen shots. Hit CTRL-PrtSc(print screen) and you can save it in Paint by pressing CTRL-V. Those files do take up space, though, and as Kat said, they slow things down a lot, so you would need to burn them to the CD so you can purge your hard drive. HTH!
