barbara b, i saw your words about cooking for company and had to chime in. i can so relate, it's almost a phobia with me. tied up in knots for days, unable to enjoy it, second-guessing and kicking myself for days afterward. how do people do it so effortlessly? i know i never will...
My problem is I am a slow cook, I do not like to rush and I always under estimate and lose track of time so my meals are always fashionably late

Christin----lovely cakes---so right about the food porn

wacky---cooking for me is a joy---a huge stress reliever---nothing like attacking some veggies with a knife when you're ticked off---or better yet---whipping the egg whites by hand---great bit of exercise too...

back when I could actually drink a nice glass of wine without falling flat on my face---I'd throw on some tunes, pour me a glass of wine, and hit the kitchen

as for cooking for other people---planning is my key to being able to do it---like I cleared the menu for father's day with all my siblings before they left today--it's the OCD---it makes it possible...

but cake decorating---not my bag--old fashioned cakes I can do but things like Christin posted---not a chance ---I admire y'all for being able to do that....

Beautiful!

Do you do any low-carb cakes?

I know there are recipes and cheesecake is always a good low-carb choice, but how about fancy decorated low-carb cakes??? Like for a low-carb wedding?

Absolutely correct Bama,
Christin your cakes are gorgeous, I'd feel kinda pitiful posting mine, but I might anyway, I haven't downloaded them from the camera yet.
There are times I think I would like to go pro with the cakes and even catering, but I'm not so young anymore and my energy level is easily diminished. I would work for someone, I think that would be less stressful.
wacky---cooking for me is a joy---a huge stress reliever---nothing like attacking some veggies with a knife when you're ticked off---or better yet---whipping the egg whites by hand---great bit of exercise too...
I'm am learning to love cooking, I actually get more joy behind the scenes and trying to make events less stressful for others, the problem is...it stresses me out.
back when I could actually drink a nice glass of wine without falling flat on my face---I'd throw on some tunes, pour me a glass of wine, and hit the kitchen
I listen to a lot of talk programs or seminar cds when I'm in the kitchen. I get so easily distracted and end up all over the house, they keep me more focused.
as for cooking for other people---planning is my key to being able to do it---like I cleared the menu for father's day with all my siblings before they left today--it's the OCD---it makes it possible...
I agree wholeheartily, plan, plan, plan, I actually had this all planned, what food to prepare, etc. But at soon as I committed to doing it, I went blank. Well, it will work out. With these guys I imagine sandwiches and chips would be great, but I really want to do more to show my appreciation for what they do for us. I guess it's my fear of messing things up.
but cake decorating---not my bag--old fashioned cakes I can do but things like Christin posted---not a chance ---I admire y'all for being able to do that....
I always wanted to do cake decorating, I did my oldest son's first birthday, , by the time my other kids came along, grandmas were getting the cakes. As the kids got older, I thought, I get so much joy doing the cakes, maybe my kids would too. I didn't want to be selfish, so the annual tradition was for them to pick out the cake, icing , then bake and decorate it. I really thought they wanted to do that.
Then when we moved, the Lord provided me with a wonderful neighbor who does cakes. So of course she staried doing our cakes for birthdays. (of course, she was thrilled to have new people to send leftover cake .)

Me too, I have to clean up as I go along, I'm almost obsessive about it...okay I am. And I think it will only take me 15min to do something because that's all it took last time, then it takes 45 min.grrr.
Well, if I don't hit the reply now, it will end up in FWK #18

Yes, there is nothing like luxuriating in spa robes and ordering breakfast from room service. I still remember those salads we had at that restaurant at the Four Seasons. We ought to do that again, only not in Vegas.

Christin, those cakes are just gorgeous! It takes an experienced and accomplished decorator to work with fondant.

Bama, same here - I can bake old fashioned cakes from scratch and frost them with decadent frosting, but about all I ever learned to do is write on cakes. I worked in a bakery for a while and was supposed to get trained as a decorator, but I have had carpal tunnel and was afraid it would come back if I started decorating. Some decorators where I worked had to have surgery for it, and I didn't want to go there. I had surgery on both hands, and do not want to go through it again.

I haven't done any lowcarb. I've toyed with the idea of experimenting with coconut oil and xyiltol, but I just don't think I'd get the same consistency as crisco and powdered sugar, plus, the temperature in the room would have to stay about 65 deg.

Amy, I don't know about Wordpress, but on Blogger, you post the location of the .jpg file in your computer. On some sites like this one, you have to have the photo stored at another website. HTH! I'm sure someone who knows Wordpress will happen along soon.

I don't know how to get this bigger. It was suppose to be covered with roses, so I just made a 3 tiered iced cake and didn't worry to much about how smooth or crisp the corners were (they were going to be covered) When I went to deliver it and set it up the plans had changed. Because of the worry of pesticide on the rose, they decided to sprinkle a few petals. So I went over the cake with cornelli lace (squiggily lines) do you have any idea how hard it is to be random when you are trying to be random?
Anyway. the bride was thrilled and that is all that counts.
I actually uploaded two pics but the first one didn't load, wonder why.
Oh to keep on topic.
The one time I conversed with the Kimmer ( I had pm'd about the ebook) I commented about the success story of a woman who worked in a bakery. I thought well maybe I can do KK and not have to give up baking. I was asking the Kimmer about her, but she never replied back. I was having trouble finding her testimony again. I don't know if it disappeared after the site change over or what. It always bugged me that most of the success stories didn't give anyway to contact them in the forums..:duh

it would depend on where the pic is---if you have it stored like on photobucket---C&P the direct link

if you have found a pic somewhere else

if using Internet Explorer browser right click click on properties---a window pops up with the URL---

if using a firefox browser---right click----click on copy image location---then paste that in the pic box when it asks for the URL
