Kimkins Survivors has more than a few who have exhibited adult onset eating disorders.

So, even those who don't come into Kimkins with an eating disorder find that dangerously low caloric levels, coupled with promises of losses with no exercise (which is up there AGAIN on her site and is a red flag according to the FTC) and 'peer pressure' to eat things such as egg whites help foster a very dysfunctional view of food.
Excellent!!

Dieting by itself can trigger the onset of ED

Those who diet moderately are five times more likely to develop eating disorders than those who don't diet. For those who diet "severely," the chances of an eating disorder are eighteen times greater.

Further, dieting sets an example that can lead to eating disorders in others. A mother's dieting creates a greater chance of an eating disorder in her daughter. The same occurs when a sister diets, or when someone has a group of friends who diet.

this is from somethingfishy an ED recovery site:

Quote:
Dieting is about losing a little bit of weight in a healthy way.

Eating Disorders are about trying to make your whole life better through food and eating (or lack of).

Dieting is about doing something healthy for yourself.

Eating Disorders are about seeking approval and acceptance from everyone through negative attention.

Dieting is about losing a bit of weight and doing it healthfully.

Eating Disorders are about how life won't be good until a bit (or a lot) of weight is lost, and there's no concern for what kind of damage you do to yourself to get there.

Dieting is about losing some weight in a healthy way so how you feel on the outside will match how good you already feel on the inside.

Eating Disorders are about being convinced that your whole self-esteem is hinged on what you weigh and how you look.

Dieting is about attempting to control your weight a bit better.

Eating Disorders are about attempting to control your life and emotions through food/lack of food -- and are a huge neon sign saying "look how out of control I really feel"

Dieting is about losing some weight.

Eating Disorders are about everything going on in life -- stress, coping, pain, anger, acceptance, validation, confusion, fear -- cleverly (or not so cleverly) hidden behind phrases like "I'm just on a diet".
they also have a great questionnaire

Re: Dana-- IIRC, she backed up Jimmy Moore when he was following Kimkins, and she didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with the plan, stating that people need to do what's right for them. Of course, Jimmy was looking for support, so she wasn't likely to blast a plan she'd most likely never heard of before and which she was given a serial tweaker's version of.

Take that for what it is.

it was Jimmy who stated Dana was in support of the Kimkins diet---back when he was trying to convince everyone it was a good thing....

Cleo, From what I remember, Dana sent Jimmy a PRIVATE email. He was taking alot of flack from alot of us (trying to get him to see the light) She sent him a private email trying to encourage him. She has been in the spotlight and knows how rough that is. I don't think she knew (or looked into) the plan. Her statement wasn't in support of Kimkins, she really just assumed (from Jimmy's word) That it was just another low carb plan that people were bashing. I'm sure she never really gave it any thought, she was just trying to encourage someone in a private email.

Jimmy was the one who took that portion of that private email and posted it on his blog as Her support of the plan.

You hit on something I was thinking; that she never really took a good look at KK herself, but was receiving information second hand from Jimmy. Since it was he (not she) who said she was supporting it, then he should clarify whether or not she still supports it, or to what level she ever supported it.

Didn't Dana give permission for her email to be posted, though? I honestly believe she had no concept of what the plan truly was.

I think, as Magics is saying, that Dana was supporting her friend Jimmy, and not necessarily the plan itself. Really, any logical person who sees Kimkins knows that it's a fetid pile of poop.

Dana would, by supporting Kimkins-- a plan of people who tend to eat less than an Olson twin on a binge day-- be losing a spankload of cookbook buyers.

Does anyone know what happened to PrettyPaula? She was a KK admin for a nanosecond, then she posted here in the ML frequently. But, I haven't seen anything from her in weeks. I know she was getting frustrated and at one point posted that she was thinking of going back to a KK-type WOE.

Ever read up on the Minnesota Starvation Study? They took healthy young men and restricted them to 1500 calories a day...a lot of it carbs. It cause a LOT of emotional damage...some of it lasting way beyond the study.

I don't remember Anything about her giving her permission. I have never read anything about Dana And Kimkins except in the Portion of the email that he posted.

I guess someone would have to ask "Jimmy" if she gave permission or not.

I always "Took it" that in the "heat" of the moment he just posted it to say "TAKE THAT, you negative Nancys"!!!
